How have we declined in features since FM4!?!?

Okay, but the thing is you can turn any driving model into something else if you work on the game and really want to do that. Driving is what matters the most to almost everyone except for the people I see my friends argue with online, and I obviously get that because it was the driving model that made me avoid FM5-7.
But look at what I meant: 20 tracks at launch is an okay number and it would be even more fitting if the game actually looked like something new, but it doesn’t because I see the same deformed car models I saw in Motorsport 4, 3, 2 and even 1 for some cars. If they’re making this a reboot then why shouldn’t they make it a reboot by doing everything that needs to be done from scratch from scratch? Or at least fix the things that needed to be fixed years ago and improve on top of that? Instead they’re keeping stuff away from us for the sake of doing that and because the game is officially a “live service” now. I’d be beyond satisfied with less content if it all was done well and accurate, but most of it isn’t so I say it.
As for the thing that matters the most, again refer to the first paragraph because they can turn the driving model into pretty much anything and it may or may not retain the feeling of older games while being actually different.

I think I’ve figured it out;

Okay, so let me set the scene:

A bunch of Forza devs are sitting at a board room table. They’re brainstorming ideas. One dev, whilst thinking about how most new games have a ‘new game plus mode’ thought to themselves “what is the opposite of new gane plus?” As one person asks if “anyone has any ideas?” The dev blurts out “Uhhh, old game minus.”

As no one else had any ideas they decided to run with this dev’s ‘old game minus’ idea. And began taking the exact game that they already had and began removing cars and tracks while giving us nearly the same game otherwise.

Games As A Service is both a blessing and a curse…

A fanbase wants continued support of the title they enjoy while simultaneously wanting everything at launch (or least slightly more than the previous title).

That leaves a no win situation, fanbase complains about reused models while also complaining about how few rescans are completed…

In this day and age, I just wish more studios embraced modding (a la Assetto Corsa).
I would be fine with a majority of FM7 tracks up-res’d and updated over time… ~30 tracks at launch with 10 rescans… although licensing is likely a big part of the issue.

Wish there were more Racing Series Partnerships within Forza… hearing IMSA, but the lack of all dedicated tracks and cars leads me to believe it’s more individualized licensing between race teams and tracks.

As someone that used to play A LOT of NASCAR Racing 2003 during the Pentium 3 & 4 days, it just feels like racing sims/games haven’t really advanced much in 25 years

Disappointed with the launch list of tracks (unless Daytona, Bathurst and Sebring make the cut) but excited for some of the announced features/upgrades…

Hopefully we all find something in the next Motorsport to hold our attention while Turn 10 fills in the gaps :crossed_fingers:

Just to be clear; Forza Motorsport (2023) will be a live service game. They don’t plan a Forza Motorsport 9 any time soon.

See this topic:

https://forums.forza.net/t/will-there-be-a-forza-every-other-year-or-will-it-be-a-live-service/619464/12

So that will probably mean (although unconfirmed of course) that they could or will add content continuously like with Forza Horizon 5.

no excuse when weve had the same 20 tracks at launch for the last 3 games prior and that it took 6 years of dev time for this game, triple the usual amount so we should have triple the content.

THey have reused the same awful car models since xbox 360 era games, they are just lazy

Non of what you just said is entirely correct. Why does everyone forget we had a global pandemic that stopped everything. Developers have had difficulty with the next gen hardware. People finally have the new hardware and many of my friends just upgraded. It’s coming out at the perfect time. With many beloved tracks and more to come. There are new tracks in that 20. All tracks will seem fresh with those walls and barriers removed. Plenty of cars have been added since the 360 days. It’s certainly not all of them. It’s been a long wait I’ve suffered two Horizons in a row. Excited for what’s coming.

Not agree. FM7 didn’t have even dynamic lighting due to 4K gimmick. At all. It is not just graphics, now you can race with real time sun position, dynamic weather and so on. And now low sun won’t blind you completely, as it was in FM7. It is a really big thing.
New physics. After all, physics is the main thing why people play simulators.
New AI. FM7 AI was not the strongest part of the game, actially sometimes it was so agressive, even rewind didn’t help much.
New interface. FM7 interface on PC was horrible, linear scroling of 40 tracks and 50 car makers?
There are a lot of much needed changes in the game, and lets hope the new tracks will follow after releaee.

If the game is being called a reboot then it should do everything that makes it a reboot. Forza Motorsport so far looks like nothing more than a big step forward in terms of physics and… nothing else. The upgrade system itself stays the same, AI behaviour seems to be unchanged, the car models are still recycled from the X360, singleplayer campaign seems to have undergone only small changes of how each series is unlocked though the assist rewards system is finally getting changed, and we don’t know anything about everything else. Will the Livery Creator stay the same? Will the tuning stay the same? Will they bother to change the AI behaviour? Will they manage to finally fix the car models before launch?
There are too many similarities between FM and FM7 (and this way all previous Forza titles) to truly consider FM a reboot. At the very, very least they could make it look like something made from ground up so that everyone could be fooled into driving freshly scanned cars on freshly scanned tracks with the same upgrades against the same AI as in previous titles. At the same time, most people who praise Forza nowadays aren’t even interested in cars and/or playing the game, they just do so because they’re into console wars and love to dump on PlayStation. The actual people who would invest hours upon hours into the game are being omitted once again.
This game could launch with much less content than it currently has provided most if not all of it is legitimately new. Changing the physics alone doesn’t require them to get rid of the number in the name. Changing most parts of the games foundations would entitle them to do so. They have not done enough.

Then why not just include those and limit the amount of X360 models to the fairly accurate ones, and then bring back X360 cars with fresh and accurate models?

wow the barriers look different that totally changes the layout of the track… that whole people are just getting consoles now is a poor excuse just becase people were cheap and lazy. took me a whole week to find a series x in stock at best buy and same with my friends who got them within a week over 2 years ago.

It’s also people being able to afford a new console . It’s not just about availability. I got mine near release day too. Took quite a few ordering tries and a bit of time not everybody has.

then they shouldnt care about getting new games if they cant even afford a $599 Cad console. Which they announced years before release so they had time to save

then like i said shouldnt be getting or worrying about latest games or consoles. moneys that tight get an xbox 360 for 50$ and dont even bother looking at new forzas.

A bizarre rather rude take. Bye bye.

What I said. This game is nothing new

A bunch of cars many AWD I never drive except in Horizon…. Not a big deal. Hardly making the game DOA. We will end up with over 700 cars probably. We often get 4+ cars a month for free in Horizon. Plus car packs. Chill.

You’ve entirely missed my point. The game is packed with too much content at launch. It doesn’t need to have so many X360 models on day one, in fact it should have none if then if it’s actually built from ground up. I would gladly trade half of all cars that are making it to the game at launch for accurate car models.
That’s the problem, the game has too much content reused from 10+ years back, a lot of it is now 18 years old.

Then don’t drive them?

Yeah, the 90’s car models suck. 100%. Can’t say I was hanging out to drive any of them personally but I can totally get someone’s disappointment if they were.

I’m just not going to get hung up on stuff like that. I don’t care that much. Too much content at launch? That’s a new one. I see the opposite complaint more. I understand what you mean but it’s just the least of my worries. I focus on gameplay even in Horizon that’s my main concern. My concern has only grown due to Hoizon not really getting any improvements in that department in lieu of visual and other non gameplay related items getting top priority. To not even attempt to fix its whacked out constantly penalize the wrong person anti ramming/shoving system is unforgivable. Now PG isn’t Turn 10 and Horizon is a different animal but some Horizon always leaks into Motorsport somehow. I’ll always prioritize gameplay. Let’s get that tight before we worry about some old car models or other things that really do not affect the racing itself. In a perfect world all could be done at once but I’m not seeing that. I think there were many challenges to get the most out if this generation of hardware not to mention we have had challenging times in general for everyone.

I avoid them, but the very sight of them anywhere in the game knowing that they’re still deformed fills me with dread and disgust. It’s not as simple as you think.
