Except that, as far as I know, the effect that causes the loss of aero occurs when another car gets into the low pressure zone directly behind the lead car. Race cars are designed around optimizing this low pressure zone, aerodynamically at least. The following car basically has to have its nose almost under the rear wing of the lead car (a few meters at best).
From the look of the above video, this seems in game to work as soon as you get into the lead cars wake, which can be an order of magnitude further away than it should be. The effect it has on the lead car also looks exagerated as well.
