How do you finish Icons of Speed: History 101

So, subject. I got so sick of how terribly the Napier handles at the beach that I turned on autosteering. Now the car stays under control, but it cannot go 140 mph. It peaks out at bouncing back and forth between 132 133. Is there some unexplained way to put a custom tune on a story mission? This car doesn’t seem capable of meeting the basic requirement.

Tldr: turn on assists, ride out 2nd gear, git gud (in no particular order)

Yep, switch ON the traction & stability control via the Difficulty menu.
Also activate the AUTOMATIC gear-shift option.
Keep the car steady,no swerving on the steering, keep to the blue-arrow driving-line and don’t clip any of the beach furniture.
Oh… and definitely keep your finger pressed on the accelerator once you hit 2nd gear.

Tried turning on all assists. That gives the car a lower top speed of 131mph. I guess I’m writing this off as a horrifically stupid design. I don’t even care about getting three stars. Nothing else in the entire game is remotely this annoying to just get one star and continue on.

This might help if you’re still interested. Good luck with it.

i completed icons of speed all 3 stars in accolades 45 mins it was so easy

It accelerates better when it gets to the road towards the end. After using the road a little, use the beach on the right to cut the slight bend at the finish. The softer sand will slow you down. I think I was 147 or so when finishing. Auto steering off and auto braking off but I had traction and stability on.

I can follow along until close to the end. Where your car keeps accelerating, mine just bounces back and forth between 132 and 133 mph. As near as I can tell I’m driving along the exact same section of the beach. It’s not skidding in any noticeable way and holds a straight line without any input, it just won’t gain any more speed.

That’s really strange, first I’ve heard of that issue, particularly if your in auto & full acceleration. Assuming you turned off auto-steering?

Yep, using the exact settings in the video. Speedometer starts bouncing consistently at 133mph and won’t accelerate any further.

Yeah, no clue what’s causing that. Maybe someone else has an idea of what the issue might be. Sorry I couldn’t help.

If you’re using an Elite controller with trigger locks on you could try turning them off. You don’t need to get 3 stars to get the Exorcist.
Just getting 1 star in each chapter will unlock it.

I’m experiencing exactly the same thing having tried various combinations of what’s been suggested. Very frustrating. And to add insult to injury, it seems to take forever to load in again if you want to have another go.

this is my 3 star run if it helps. traction and stability on and auto transmission
