How do I make a good realistic carbon?

There used to be a tutorial on the forza 4 forum but I can’t find it anywhere can anyone help?

Because now carbon is an option. If you want this on Forza 4, I suggest you move it to the Forza 4 category, also check YouTube.

Carbon Fibre in FM5 is easy as!! In the new “special colours” you will find both a matte and polished carbon fibre.

However if you have chosen say a metallic colour for your car to make some fancy metallic logos you will have to make the carbon fibre yourself. FM4 had some great tutorials but unsure if anyone has brought them over from the old forum. Go search the FM4 paint section and hopefully someone has posted it up.

But because I am a nice guy I will let you know of a few ways to do it without using the special colours

There is a couple of great techniques using some of the vinyls.

  • COMMUNITY VINYLS 1, 3 right, 3 down. This shape makes a great carbon like texture but can be hard to line up on the car. Make the shape too big and it looks ugly.

  • STRIPES, 5 right, top row. Stretch it high then make it narrow. Skew it to one side and then copy and paste it so it joins up. Easier to join than the option above. Once joined shrink it down to a fine weave. This is what many of us used through FM4 as it makes a very fine weave if done right as well as using fewer layers.

You can use other lines using the same technique (eg: GRADIENT SHAPES, 5 right, 3 down or even the letter I) but it does take up more layers and like the 1st option may be harder to line up nicely. We do have 3000 layers per side but more free layers = more quality logos!

Hope it helps.

Thanks very much I’ll have a look

The community shape, top row 3rd from the left is a great one to use. Make it about a very dark grey. Line them up when they are large and group, repeat and then make smaller. Overlaying it on a silver metalic base, 1 black vinyl fill with 25% opacity and then overlaying with a very dark greeny grey layer on 7% opacity works a treat.

That’s what I use haha. Cool

that’s good advice, but I only want a small section for my koenigsegg agera on forza horizon. Any suggestions???

Then only make a small section haha.

If it’s for a metallic based car this can be tricky as you’ll just have to spend time manually lining the various pieces up so that they only fill the area you want, if it’s a non-metallic main livery it’s much easier, just use various pieces of the same colour as the main livery to ‘mask’ the areas of the car that you don’t want to appear carbon.

I’m fairly certain this question has been asked at least once per game release all the way back to forza 2.
