Likewise went looking for them and couldn’t find. I think I found some that were close but can’t recall which slot or make now. And on the note about the Redlines I also went looking for that right after launch but couldn’t find it. Maybe I was too early ? Too tired ? I dunno. Guess I’ll have to look again next time I’m on.
That’s very possible. I thought I was in an era correct muscle car but might have goofed. They wouldn’t have made it ONLY actual Hot Wheels Redlines would they ? That might be kinda cool and sad at the same time.
Seemed like a very straightforward design with the Hot Wheels paint, so I took a stab at it based on the online photos for the ‘68 Redline Lola that @PlumCrazy010 shows above. Also tuned up the car as it was actually the first time I had messed with it & was surprised by the handling & performance, with 278mph confirmed. The HWs Redline tires aren’t the best for overall handling, but still pleasantly surprised. I shared both for anyone who’s interested.
I hadn’t really shared this one out at the time. This is part of an exercise to emulate a more convincing Spectraflame candy color over polished metal appearance. I wasn’t really satisfied with the in-game Spectraflame implementation. I have shared it out a 117 846 400, if you are interested.
The original metal flake is one of my staples for tweaking colors on my designs & definitely makes a difference to the overall appearance.
I found the HW colors a bit “loud”, but as intended I guess. I was surprised by how well it looked on the Lola & the color really pops in the sun.
To me, the Hot Wheels presets look more like a coarse grain metalflake, rather than a candy tint. Nothing really wrong with a grainy metalflake paint type, except they didn’t parameterize it so we could define our own base and flake colors. It doesn’t really look like proper Spectraflame, though.
The redline tires were a signature feature from when Hot Wheels were introduced in 1968 through about 1977. After that, they eliminated the red stripe as a cost-saving measure. Nostalgic collector releases and sometimes even occasional retail releases are still produced with redline tires from time to time, though.
