Game is funny. I was at 173/175 roads and map showed no more gray roads so I fast travel to my garage then back out again and I could see the last 2 gray roads. I get one more road and I’m at 174/175 and then the achievement unlocks??? I then get the last road and I’m now at 175/175.
Overall I like the expansion, the map is cool I like the new cars. The new track parts were a welcome surprise and the editor shows some promise.
The fact the game actually had something almost approaching a campaign with progression was like a breath of fresh air too, shame it lasted all of 2 days of me playing incredibly casually.
That’s the biggest problem with not just hotwheels but the entire Horizon franchise ever since 4. Cool map but the game does barely anything with it.
The hotwheels expansion has just such a laughably tiny amount of tracks there’s barely anything here to do on it. 3’s version had way more tracks AND championships on top (no I will never shut up about these, you robbed us and I won’t forgive it). It feels really strange that Hotwheels came out so late and still feels like it was rushed. After finishing the goliath I took a look at the map and over half the roads were still unexplored. Why? Why make all this track and then never use it for anything?
It’s as if the devs think the majority of players are just going to cruise around so they don’t have to bother putting in official routes.
As for the editor, like I said. Some progress. The track snapping feature is something that should have been in the game since day one. It makes such a tremendous change to the ease of creating tracks that I hope it gets expanded to other track parts too. But we still have two major limitations that are holding things back.
First of all the Hotwheels map would have been perfect for a forge style empty map with no roads in it at all. While I like that the expansion has managed to cram an ungodly amount of track in a small space it does mean that trying to fit your own in is difficult to say the least.
Secondly we are still stuck with predetermined start points. I can only assume this is a deeply embedded issue with the game engine itself because all the workarounds for it have been crap. I can only hope that Horizon 6 will have some deep changes under the hood to finally accommodate content creators. Especially if PGG wants to keep relying on them so they don’t have to actually create anything themselves beyond the base map.
Well received but short lived. That pretty much sums up this expansion based on the poll results so far.
As anonyyymous said, well received but short lived. Even I’ve done all the stuff in the campaign, including the online racing which I otherwise avoid.
I’ll return for playlist events, but I don’t think I’ll be back to the expansion much for prolonged visits.
as expected, this expansion was just “meh” for me. i took my time completing it over the course of several days, although i can see how it could have been done in half that time. as for the events and tracks, i will say it’s an improvement over FH3’s DLC, but not by much. i was not enthused over the fact that PGG/T10 were rehashing an old concept that beggars credulity. i hope the second expansion is more rooted in reality (like an actual city to race in) but i’m not holding my breath…
And whose bright idea was it to force everybody to do every type of PR stunt?
I can just about manage 1 star drifting most of the time (yes, I’m really bad at it; don’t care), but only if I switch to using a controller instead of the wheel.
The strange thing is that drifting is the easiest one. I three starred those without trying to.
Can someone build me a CC event lab in one of the biomes? Preferably the forest biome but I would be open to any.
