Hot Wheels Expansion May 9

Now I have it all installed the only issues I have had is the game has crashed/frozen once (XboxOne).

Regarding gameplay issues, the only one I have had is its a little difficult to navigate due to the crossovers and tracks overlapping.

The HotWheels is fine, I don’t think its as good as Blizzard Mountain or the Rally Expansion on the original Forza Horizon, I don’t see why people are so upset?

I was frustrated earlier because I wasn’t able to get the expansion working, and as I said earlier this isn’t Forza’s fault, it’s Microsoft’s/Xbox’s, this is the only complaint that I have.

Initial impressions after a short playthrough of the new DLC is that it is a high-quality production, the graphics and locations are breathtaking. It’s the same game but racing above the water and going high up there showcases some beautiful stuff. Very much enjoying it so far… cheers

So glad I ran home on my lunch break to start downloading the content update so I could play when I got home…

Only to come home to find I now have to download it all over again from the game…

Graphics=WOW.
Layout=Amazing.
Fun Factor=Awesome.
Map Size=Big.
New Cars=OK.
Medal System=SUCKS!
Lots to do,
Lots to see,
tracks can be tuff at times,
Overall= GREAT JOB once again Turn Ten!

I enjoyed the medal system on BM. Made it less mundane and provided a bit of a challenge.

While I earned all medals in BM, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the system. I don’t think it’s bad, but it feels too restrictive for me (I shouldn’t have to do the PR stuff yet if I don’t want too). It feels like it is a way to artificially prolong the time you have to spend to finish all the tracks.
The base FH3 game is much more free, which is something that really fits with the FH games imo.

I haven’t played the HW expansion yet, but I will probably also try to get all medals on that one if I don’t hate playing the expansion’s tracks.

My feeling has always been that they should have done what they did in Apex; give you three conditions for medals that you can do in any order or combination you like. That was perfect.

Expecting you do all of them at once though? Just frustrating.

The system reminds me a lot of DriveClub on PS4 and while I enjoyed that game as well (as well as the BM expansion), it gives me unnecessary stress and instead of enjoying the race and race like I normally would, I am now trying to cheese the system to get x amount of skillpoints or pass a car x amount of times (by letting it pass me and pass it again).

Some of the challenges don’t feel like racing to me any more, but I am sure there are people who enjoy this type of challenge.
Like I said, I did earn all the stars in BM and I got most of them first try, but some of the harder ones I just cheesed by turning down the difficulty and/or turning up the amount of laps. I am not sure if that doesn’t destroy the game somewhat. I certainly wasn’t enjoying those harder challenges (most of them were fine, but I can do without them).

I have never played Apex, but as far as I can see, that system looks indeed somewhat better.

And yes, I know I don’t HAVE to do those challenges, but I kinda do :). Forza is one of the games where I really try to go for achievements and in general, if you give me that kind of challenge, I have to try and get it , although I am not always enjoying them (I did/do the same in DriveClub as well).

Agreed, and I really like how you’re forced to use slower cars during the initial stages of the Hot Wheels expansion. I hope that’s something that carries over to the next Motorsport title as people really need to familiarise themselves with slower cars before taking on bigger challenges.

I’ll post more detailed feedback once I hit 100% completion but from the 5 or so hours I played this evening (all Co-Op) all I can say is well done to Turn 10/Playground. They’ve somehow made a Trackmania game work in the Forza universe

I’m loving the expansion. The only thing I don’t like is the AI drivatars driving around. Is there any way to toggle them off?

Haven’t done a single race yet just been driving about seeing whats what and doing a load of PR stunts and bonus boards. There’s some very fast sections of track and also some extremely unforgiving sections which I can see will prove tough when doing races. Overall though it looks fantastic graphically, nice car pack with it and am looking forward to getting into some races tomorrow. Oh and the body mods you can do to the barnfind coupe: more of the same please T10/PG!!

I’m wondering : Is the driver supposed to survive while driving this one ? Is it actually meant to be driven lol ? Am i supposed to go 300km/h and see where i’m going ?
They should rename this one : “The Believer”.

Yeah, all the external superchargers and hood-scoops annoyed me in the base game as well.
I can’t drive with stuff on my hood, but I guess that’s personal opinion (and only applicable if you drive from in-car view).

Edit : Duplicate

Amazing fun, it still feels a lot like Forza I mean you can even choose normal cars.

Couple of other things I’ve noticed as others have mentioned is the layout of the tracks in certain areas is quite confusing. I’ve had to rely alot on setting routes or fast travelling already so early on which is something I haven’t done alot in the base game or BM after hundreds of hours.

I’m a bit on the fence when it comes to the tracks themselves. Yes you get a really exhilarating sense of speed and the views at times are stunning but the fact alot of the roads have raised sides mean if you’re into obtaining high skill chains through drifting you’ll have to be extremely precise to avoid hitting the edge thus ruining your chain. Furthermore the many parts of track without sides are crying out for the online adventure rammers and cheaters to punt you off at any opportunity.

Waiting to play still. But Johniwanna, jonK, and westman have made it a bit more on the positive side for me. I can see where some of the tracks will be fun to master

Brilliant DLC!

So far I kinda like it… for now. I’ve been getting 3 medals on everything from B class and the majority of A class. Already unlocked S1 class a while ago but I’m still busy with A class. Did 2 bucket list challenges and just collected my barn find as well. Speed/drift/jump zones I wait with until later, I want to focus on the racing first.

I honestly like the 3-medal challenges, also in BM. So far the extra things I had to do were relatively easy, most of the time it’s beat a time, reach a high speed or score an amount of skill points which are all relatively easy.

Started out in that Hot Wheels buggy but it sure is crap on it’s own Hot Wheels expansion. Switched to a Ford Cobra and later a BMW both in B class and things went a lot better. In A I started with the Ford Focus HE and later the Merc A45 AMG HE until I found out that’s not the type of car you need. I’m also enjoying a whole new series of cars, mainly the sedans. Had a blast in A class with my A800 Mercedes pre-order car and also the Infinity Eau Rouge. Shift into highest gear on those speed thingies and you fly by the other drivatars quite fast.

I’m also playing with 75% assists. IIRC average drivatar difficulty / STM off, ESP off, ABS off / manual gearing / driving line off / rewind off / cosmetic dmg. Seems about right on the unpredictable nature of this expansion and usually it takes 1 race to get used to a track and a second attempt to get the 3 stars. I could probably increase difficulty more and still win but screw it, I’m already driving without the line and with rewind off and I prefer it that way. And this way it all stays chill and relaxed.

Haven’t found a single bonus board yet but then again I barely left the plastic tracks either.

Driving on the plastic feels a bit more slippery than on tarmac but I guess in the end that’s fine. I was FAR more impressed with driving on the snow than driving on plastic though.

The tracks themselves then, most of the stunts are fun but getting a boosted jump and landing next to the track happens occasionally. Even if your car resets it’s still possible to win the race at the difficulty I’m driving so that’s okay. I kinda miss corkscrews in the stunts though? Or is that not part of Hot Wheels “lore”? lol

Multiplayer I still have to give a try, will do that tomorrow.

I have a feeling that once the novelty wears off this expansion will get boring fast. On one side I’m glad Playground tried something different (at least in the Forza franchise since let’s face it, other racing games have done this before already). But on the other side it’s a bit over the top and it doesn’t really fit with the entire Australia theme of FH3 IMO. Blizzard Mountain was a great expansion, Tasmania would have been outstanding as a followup. But I guess they were too lazy to send a team over again to down under. Instead we get the orange plastic tracks mounted on copy/paste graphics of the existing world (a main city AGAIN, a forest AGAIN, shipwrecks AGAIN, a big mountain AGAIN… you get the point) which results in a mediocre expansion. Initial impressions are good (not as good as BM though) but I fear it will get old fast.

On the positive side I have this to say :

  • It’s new, it’s refreshing, it’s fun at least for now. I wasn’t playing FH3 anymore other than the weekly Forzathons to collect new cars, this now has me returning to FH3 for a few days.
  • Lighting / graphics / sky look stunning again. Also really cool how the tracks are lit up at night, the fire loops at night and heck I even like the dino’s.
  • Different cars do better now, nice to focus on top speed mostly and drive cars I would normally not drive often.
  • There sure is a LOT of plastic road. Do not underestimate how much more kilometers of road there is now, some parts have 2, 3 or 4 roads almost on top of each other. This is the one main advantage of the plastic tracks IMO is that instead of driving on a 2D surface, you now have more or less a 3rd dimension. They should have further worked on that though and add a couple of underground tunnels and underwater tunnels (with glass). But again, probably not part of the Hot Wheels “lore”.

The Ford Deluxe 1932 is certainly the nicest old car released in FH3, it’s just crazy beautiful

Perfect.

Edit : Is there a “spoiler” possibility in this board so i can post the image while not spoiling people who want to be surprised ?
