Never thought I’d say this but I genuinely like this Expansion. Visually it’s outstanding and I get this weird but irresistible Mario Kart + Rollercoaster World vibe. I don’t believe it’s gonna last very long due to the lag of endgame content, but there’s is definitely enough to do to keep u busy for many hours. Besides the usual bugs and glitches, they did a pretty good job ![]()
Heh, your title of " 1 Day Review " kind of sums up my feelings of the moment. It’s feeling like a " 1 Day Expansion "
I had planned to play it out and stretch the gaming… until looking at the Hot Wheels challenges in the Festival Playlist. Locked behind reaching Elite status. Thanks PGG. Guess it’s back to grinding to get it done this week. Joy.
Seriously ! I thought they went out of their way to make the expansion “progression” gated and geared to a learning curve via the Academy. So of course in the FIRST WEEK they drop the Elite level playlist items. They couldn’t have done Rookie for Week 1, Pro for Week 2, etc. etc. No no no…
Oh, and the amount of Snow is just right, it’s PERFECT ! ™… there’s too much and not enough and it’s in all the right places and wrong places all at the same time and never. Change that already will you ! ![]()
There is replayability with the HW online races but that depends whether or not it’s your cup of tea and whether you like the new format of ghosting + wall riding + high speed builds. First day playing I wasn’t impressed. Second day playing I had a blast. Guess I’m on the fence with this one.
Did you try turning off “assisted stunt steering or something like that”?
I’ve completed all but the mopping up of missions in the X-Class. I’ve enjoyed the experience so far, but I do feel it lacks any real punch.
I’ve played the FH3 Hot Wheels Expansion and TBH it’s so much more engaging (size isn’t important, it’s what you do with it).
Progression I felt was better, but you could still get all the way to X-Class without completing everything in the previous classes. Personally I don’t like that ,so have always made sure I complete everything before moving on. At least I do have that choice in this progression system, which is a pleasant change.
Overall the HW Expansion is visually stunning, but after exploring all roads getting all the boards and popping those pesky Tanks… the HW map feels kinda small.
I was expecting something more after getting into X-Class having done “the final qualifier”, but feel a bit let-down by the lack of any real fanfare or additional content. No extra tracks, no extra PR Stunts… just nothing.
I doubt I’ll be coming back to it once I’ve finished X-Class, other than the inevitable playlist item.
The expansion is beautiful and fun, but goes by way too fast. I started the expansion this morning. I’m near 100% now. Back in the day, Blizzard Mountain took me a month. Good times. Other than that, the expansion is great.
Yes,i turned it off and things are much improved. Also i’ve had to alter the steering sensitivity quite a bit (inside deadzone) ,i usually have it very fast @c30,but have had to make it less sensitive @c50 as i was getting massive oversteer in s2 cars
Having reaching the Legend rank on only the second day after release, I can definitely say this expansion does have its highlights, but its certainly not worth the hype it got. Thankfully, I kept my expectations low going into it, so I’m not really disappointed.
As others have mentioned, it looks good and the framerate drops are minimal, even on the Xbox One S. Only notch in the armor is the lava. The lava looks like something my cat left in the hall this morning, even while driving at over 200 miles per hour.
Progression was nice, though not perfectly executed. It was a little too similar to the Accolades to my liking, and, as others have mentioned, the campaign is way too short. Like ten hours too short. Being unable to drive whatever car I wanted to drive in free-roam was also its own special kind of stupid.
Some of the new features were nice, though criminally underused, like the water plumes, or just plain pointless, like the G-force meter.
The length of the circuits was a welcomed change over the rapid circuits on the mainland, though the length of the sprints definitely could’ve been longer. The Goliath in particular was just pathetic.
The AI was inconsistent, at least on Highly Skilled, but this wasn’t a surprise. Still, I found myself beating the AI too much compared to base game during the B, A, S1 events, and by the time I reached S2 events, I found myself only using one car because the AI had become demonic by this point, especially in the Extreme Track Toy category.
Other miscellaneous thoughts include how the rumble roads were definitely nowhere near as cool as I thought they were going to be (I thought they were going to shake violently when driven on), how the addition of off-roading was definitely a good pallet cleanser, and how B-class events probably should’ve been cut since there were so few of them, and the cars were too underpowered for what little events there were.
I spent the last half an hour exploring the water/forest biome and I am quite impressed. I started by jumping off the waterfall and exploring the bottom. I then worked my way up and up and up while doing some sick jumps. Great use of elevation. Makes the small biome feel quite big. I then went to the edge and jumped onto the structures holding the biomes together. Found a few hidden gems along the way. Very very cool. Would be great for a hide and seek mode or maybe even the infected!
I’m surprised they didn’t link some content to all the Hotwheel Staff bunkers doted all over the map. It’s also quite fun to nose dive off the biomes and check out the mexico map
Yeah I found the staff bunker too. Waited outside ready to ram anyone that came out but no one did. They would probably be ghosted anyway…
I can only drive well with the in-car view and, other than the slow-motion cinematics. it’s not easy to see the features.
I’m on the last part, getting the Hotwheels Rivals, everything else is done. It’s been an ok expanion. I’m disappointed on the limited Hotwheels pieces available (only the orange track, not the others for example).
Hopefully they will add the other parts eventually.
Actually, I’m a little stuck with, I think, the Horizon open one, the one where you have to be in a convoy? I actually have no friends on my xbox, who also have Forza 5, who also have the Hot Wheels DLC. So, its going to be awhile for that one.
There’s no accolades or achievements that require you to be in a convoy. I have all of the Hot Wheels accolades and achievements and don’t recall going into a convoy.
For the Legend rank…the Hot Wheels Tour. Drive 50 miles in Hot Wheels Horizon tour, I’m a little lost on that one. Sorry, I normally dont do the Tours, so dont know where to go for that
Just look out for the “Horizon Tours” Logo on the Hot Wheels Map. I recall I had to do about 2 tours to do the 80km / 50miles.
I had not seen that pop up last night…right after you posted…it did. Thanks man!
