Agreed I got to 200 today just to get the two free cars but I’m done. $730k and a few regular wheelspins don’t mean much to me

I personally never minded it in FH2 + 3 and am ok with doing it here, but it is so clearly an afterthought or an act of desperation from PG, otherwise if they thought it was something worth your while it would have been included in the game at launch.
I figured out how to get all cars easily:
Step 1 go to any drag race
Step 2 create a race and choose custom cars
Step 3 choose the cars you wanna capture
Step 4 start the race, take the pictrue an leave
With this method i got all 685 cars in two days
Some players say they got 200 in 30 minutes. It took me between 1 to 2 hours. I used the drag race at the main Horizon Festival, made a blueprint choosing custom and filtered by division e.g. Hypercars.
Very easy at the start of the race to take one photo of all 12 cars and choosing approx. 15 to 20 cars and a middle PI I got a good variety of cars. I think there are 34 divisions and working through them in the order shown on the custom/filter screen it was easy to keep track of which cars I had already photographed.
Could have added it to Forzathon at 10-15 at a time, no penalty if no, if done completely, a pass on PG or trial, maybe skill points.
I did 265, got bored. Did 150 for son.

Did start with those drag races, got fed up of same cars over and over again, so just went to my house and started snapping my own collection.
Got to something like 80 - 100 cars per hour. 2 more sessions of button mashing and I should be done.

Check missing cars PI, group those with similar and one more that you own, create custom race for them, snap pics.
Repeat until done

Can someone give me a clue as to how to get 685 cars?
I have all the cars in my Garage that are legally allowed by PG. None are cloned unavailable ones etc that PG cleaned up from the game!
I am at about 631/685 tonight but by tomorrow or Monday I should be at about 670 which is no where near the 685 some people are stating that they have.
Any help would be appreciated as I do not understand what is happening.
I’m on a UK XB1X by the way.
Pause the game and go to the Cars section.
Go to Promo and Cars colection.
Filter by not captured.
Make a list of cars that are shown.
Go to any event that is not a Street Scene.
Make a Blueprint.
When selecting the.car class go to the far right to Custom.
Select the cars you listed. Run the event and snap some pictures.
Repeat until done.

Of the 685 cars, only three are not (or have not at some point) been legally available - and that’s the three cars still to be released for this season (Formula D Ferrari, AMG & Toyota). Even those three can be added to a custome blueprint event as competition, though (I had to do that to get the Ferrai - the Toyota appeared in a random drag race for me, and I actually saw someone driving the AMG - I guess they were looking for a rendezvous with the banhammer).
Swooshiain I cannot get the Merc AMG E63 to appear in a Custom Race. How did you do it.
Good news though in that I have the 685/685 as I have just a few moments ago seen and photographed the elusive “Owen’s McLaren P1” using the code above. First time I have seen the car too!

I will have a go tomorrow morning and see if that helps me out to get to 685 as that seems to be the missing link that I have yet to try.

Took me a couple of days (playing 3~4 hours a day) as well to hit 685. Been trying a bit less than an hour for the Owens McLaren but I’m putting that on hold for now.
