Just been watching the E3 conference for Microsoft and saw about the 4K update for Horizon 3. does anyone think that it will run at 60 frames per second as well as this? as I don’t have a 4K tv so i’m unsure whether its worth the money based on this information.
Just because it can run 4K, doesn’t mean it will. The game naturally seems like it was built for 1920 x 1080p.
For example: Back in the day, some computers had twin processes. That was useless at the time because most programs only used one. Same thing here, You could have 4K, but the game has nothing to really show at 4K.
It has already been confirmed that it will run at 4K. The question here was whether or not it will run at 60 fps. Not sure what you mean by ‘the game has nothing to show at 4K’ … it will show everything it currently shows … only at 4 times the resolution. So yeah … that’s something to show.
I personally believe it will also run at 60 fps … because of the power built in to the OneX. From all reports and reviews so far, it will be able to handle it.
Umm its getting a 4k update.
Whats that for then? I suppose its for the 486sx processor
You think it will run at 4K60? Not a chance. 1080p60 should be possible but from the looks of it all MS games opt for resolution over framerate, so probably it will just be 4K/30. If you want 60 fps in Horizon, buy a PC.
We’ll see. You say that “from the looks of it, they choose resolution over frame rate”. New game now. Different console Different specs. Different scenario. From all reports so far (both internally at MS and externally from everyone who’s seen it work), the goal has been met and there is now no need to have to choose between resolution and framerate.
FM7 is only using 70% of the available power to hit 4k@60. If FH3 at 4k@30 is using roughly the same amount of power it’s possible the extra 30% could be put towards hitting 60fps. Unlikely but possible.
I REALLY do want a 60fps option for FH3.
Being in 4k30 is fine. But I REALLY do want an option for 60fps, even if it’s just 1080p. Though doing 60fps at 1440p (maybe a bit higher) should be more then doable.
And the games physics engine already runs at much higher then 60hz on base Xbox One hardware doesn’t it?
So have a graphics mode (2160p30), and a performance mode (1440p60) is what I’d really love.
Also, would like a the shadows for the time of day to be smooth and not like a stop watch jumping a few cm every second.
So Playground/T10, PLEASE give us a 60fps option. Thanks
Always thought the golden explanation behind no 60FPS for Horizon titles was dynamic weather. Hence also why FM6 was 1080/60; no dynamic weather.
If FM7 can run 4K/60FPS with dynamic weather, then it stands to reason (for me) that Horizon 3 should do it too. As far as I know though, dynamic weather, in the true sense of dynamic, not just “the rain changes every time!”, hasn’t been confirmed for FM7.
In other words, we need to wait and see.
It wouldn’t surprise me if you need a PC for 4K/60FPS though. The Xbox One X cuts rather deep into the PC market if you want 4K, but ultimately you’re capped at performance on console. The only performance cap on PC is the market and your wallet.
Dynamic weather (changing during races) and day/night cycles have been confirmed to be in FM7.
Huh, interesting. Didn’t know that. Thanks guys!
Well, then I stand by my original point. If FM7 can do it, I would think Horizon 3 can as well.
FM7 definitely has proper dynamic weather. There’s a video somewhere of a race starting dry, then start raining in the middle of the race. Puddles form, and you have some cool lightning and thunder. A
Looks like true dynamic weather to me.
More scenic tracks like Maple Valley, Fujimo, Nurburg & Prague will look fantastic in 4K. CAN NOT WAIT
Hopefully you will have a choice in Resolution/fps on the new Xbox. Based on my PC performance which is slightly better than the Xbox One X (if APEX & H3 is an overall indication), I would say it will be 30fps at 4k or 60fps at 1080p. The big question is will the new console allow you to choose (like a PS4 Pro). Hopefully most games won’t be like Destiny 2 and lock the Framerate to 30 on the new console when it can do 60. Such a waste of the potential and extra cost for the new console. Luckily PC players get an unlocked frame rate.
won’t it just be an upscale to 4K? I mean none of the textures for the game were produced in 4K, so unless they basically re-master the whole game…
No. It will be true 4K. Games being enhanced for the OneX will receive a game update which will include true 4K assets and textures as well as code changes to take advantage of the features and technologies on the OneX that are not on the One or OneS. It’s up to the individual game developers to determine what exactly each of them wants to do to take advantage of the OneX’s additional power for their games … but it was definitely confirmed by T10 developers that FH3 will receive 4K enhancements.
My understanding is that the PC version has 4k assets/textures already, so they should incorporated them into the 1X update.
Also, if it runs 30fps, it won’t be “upscaled” to 4k, it would be native 4k, 3840x2160.
If they manage 60fps, then that’ll be upscaled to 4k from whatever, and 4k textures quality improvements should still be noticeable.
As I mentioned above … from all I’ve read and heard, I don’t see anything standing in the way of FH3 running at a solid 4K/60 on the OneX. Forza’s lead developer said last night in an interview at E3 that the OneX will run FM7 at 4K/60 with more overhead left over to use than a OneS running it at 1080p/60. There should be plenty of power in the OneX to do what they want to.
Horizon 3 is a completely different animal. My PC runs APEX in 4k with everything on ultra and the highest AA at 60-80 fps but H3 will only do the same at 1440p (most of the time). I doubt the new Xbox has that capability. Maybe if a LOT of setting were turned down it could do it (barely). Personally, I prefer 1080p over 4K if I have to sacrifice graphics and/or high frame rates.
I don’t think you can fairly equate a track based series (FM) with an open world series (FM).
On the 360, Horizon 1 or 2 didn’t have dynamic weather, only dynamic time of day, yet it was still 30fps compared to FM2/FM3/FM4’s 60fps.
I don’t know the actual detail of why the FH games 30fps, but I’d imagine it has something to do with managing an active and vast open world to a standard they were comfortable with at 720p.
Likewise on the ONE, FMs are 1080p60, so I’d imagine they went with a similar thought prossess to keep it 1080p at a rock solid framefrate.
Just my assumption.
So with the ONE X, their main aim would be a rock solid 2160p, which would only be possible with the fidelity they want. Having said that, I’d love the option of 1440p (or 1800p if possible) at 60fps. I’d like to think it is feasible.
