I’m a little bit disappointed that the AI Drivers in free ply mode are not homologated to the same Upgrade level as my car. As a result you drive against 5-6 cars and all other cars lag far behind. So freeplay make no sense for me.
Not calling you out or anything, but I’d really like to see more confirmation of this because it doesn’t make any sense. While FM6 didn’t upgrade the AI in free play to match your car, the AI in FH3 did upgrade to at least match the PI (albeit with seemingly a preference for horsepower), and I can’t imagine that the upgrades for the homologated career mode races are custom tailored to each and every car, which means they must have an automated process for the upgrades, which is why this makes no sense to me.
The main reason I decided to pre-order this game is because I saw that you can have all of these advanced restrictions for free play, but if I can’t make my own custom homologation rules and can only race stock vehicles or pre-made series like nascar/indycar/f1/etc, then having all those advanced settings seems just short of being pointless. I hope this isn’t the case!
I agree with the OP. Free Play is a big let down. This homolagate thing is good to grab a car and race, but I like to upgrade my own way. As in Forza 6, upgrading usually puts you outside of the class required for whatever category the car would fall into in career mode, so you’d naturally go to Free Play. With no restrictions you’d generally be put against AI slightly below and slightly above your PI, made for a good race. Not with Forza 7 (not so far anyway). I upgraded the VW Golf '14 with my preferred upgrades and it put it outside of the ‘Hot Hatch’ category restrictions, so I went to Free Play. With usual settings of upgrade parts allowed, no restrictions etc, I expected similar to F6 but instead I was put against AI all in A class cars with PI from 601 to 650. That wouldn’t be a fair race at all unless I dropped the difficulty to below my capabilities. So I restricted AI to B class only, I was given a full grid but only of Shelby Cobra, Alfa 33 and Aston DBS - again, not a very fair or realistic race. So I restricted further, to all cars being VW Golf '14, B class, PI 600. I was alone on the grid… no AI.
It’s a game breaker for sure. What’s the point in being encouraged to collect cars if when we upgrade them to our preferences we can’t even race them how we want…
OK, scratch all of that. Came out of the Free Play settings back to the main menu, went into Free Play again to try something else and accidentally clicked on ‘Go To Race’. Once loaded I went into race settings and the starting grid was totally different! I had it restricted to just B Class and this time instead of just several of the same three cars I had mostly different cars. What???
I tried what I went in to try anyway, which was setting restrictions to PI more than 590 and PI less than 610 (two separate parameters) and that loaded a starting grid with a fair grid, as though I’d started a F6 race without restrictions. BUT, that would negate having the option to restrict by class. I guess it could be a case of pot luck when setting up a race without specific restrictions…
I still can’t find a way to have division racing without homologation restrictions though. I can get a race with a bunch of random cars at the same PI but not all within the same division. I’ve managed to trick the game into making the starting grid have cars in the same division with a PI greater than the division will allow but I can’t start the race because I’m over the limit even though cars in the grid are over the limit too.
