HLR HLCs Series 3 - Event 35 (Finale) - Complete - See you in Season 4

I’ll take it on the Miata please. Put MrPinstripes name on the Tier3 car, it was a fluke that I dropped down at the exact moment you dialed up a very comfortable C500. I think I ended up exactly were I belonged 0.06 off your bumper and just behind Fifty. I’ll have to take a rain check though because I’m actually on my way to, believe it or not, Long Beach and then off the grid for a few weeks. Hopefully the storage fees aren’t too high!

Supper bummed as I have a Bel Air that rocks Hockenheimring in C class that I can’t even quickly rebuild and share for this weeks comp. I might just have a power 53 Vette from Homestead that was in D class? still shared. The Fury is good in C and the Merc should be good on what should be a very very long strait in D class.

Going to Cali,
Crash

P.S. My no aero “She’s real fine 409” would do really well here but sadly not allowed.

Me an’ my babe bought a V8 Ford ~ Well we wind that thing all on the runnin’ board, yes…

Ran a few different builds, but couldn’t find one that could match the turbo setup for performance. Handling/behavior was pretty comparable between all of them, so I’m going to stick with what works (and looks) best on this one. I did go back and rejigger the ancillary bits (driveshaft, clutch, etc.), which dropped me down around 15 pounds with no apparent negatives. After watching the telemetry I undid the gearing change I made on the last version, and have been steadily lowering my spring rate to keep the car as stable as possible over that megacurb on turn 1. The car will get at least one more pass (need ARBs, dampers, differential, and possibly another spring rate drop), but it’s very driveable as-is. Setup is uploaded as HLC19 HH v1.2.

If anyone decides to give it a shot, keep in mind that your “steering device” looks suspiciously like a gas pedal. The car likes a lot of slip angle, and will absolutely reward you if you chuck it as hard as you can and ride the knife-edge between yaw and outright oversteer. If you do it right, steering input stays almost neutral through the entire turn and the car just kind of swaggers into track out like it owns it. It’s a beautiful thing.

Current best: 2:04.851

Just for gits and shiggles, I’m keeping track of my total seat time for this one. Bought a brand-new '40 for this event (hence the Robert Johnson reference) and have logged 125 miles and 1h 36m so far.

Don’t worry about it, man. I figure everyone gets shuffled somewhere they probably don’t belong at one time or another, and I’m OK with “losing” to whomever that may be when it happens.

Have fun in California. As nice as I’m sure the weather is, I have zero willingness to put up with the rest of the state to experience it.

So many Beach Boys songs to choose from…

Will probably roll in the '40 Ford again (which, to my knowledge, is not in a Beach Boys song). I wasn’t super-happy with how the last setup ran, so I’d like to try a few different approaches and see how it shakes down.

Edit to add:

First priority was to make a build that kept the ultra-sexy whitewalls (in addition to my usual build caveats; no aero, must keep stock fuzzy dice, etc.), which took a bit of tinkering. Current build (uploaded as HLC19 HH v1.0) is utilizing a twin turbo setup, which I’m generally not crazy about. The tractor-like torque curve of the flathead V8 seems to balance it out pretty well, though, so it’s not intolerable. Plan on doing a blackwall build, too, which ought to give me a bit more flexibility in building the powerplant. Hoping I can make a NA mill work, but we’ll see.

Current best: 2:06.3xx

Time was set in HLC19 HH T.3 TT (also uploaded), which is functionally identical to v1.0 save for a minor gearing tweak and a rounding correction on the spring rates.

I’m going to break with tradition here and jump in the projected favorite straight away… :kissing:

Found out the stock gearbox only has a grand total of 2 gears… :exploding_head:

Installed a street upgrade… netted almost 5 seconds instantly… :+1:

Just north of 2:10:xxx… :sunglasses:

I finally took the plunge, so you can mark me down as a wheel user. I got a banker lap in on the controller, so hopefully I can beat that this weekend. Good thing we aren’t P class this round!

Made a few adjustments to the setup. Spring rate’s down to 1.75F/1.77R, and the game won’t let me lower it much further. The car just barely stays off the bumps on Rio, though, which means it should be good for anything in the game. Tweaked the ARBs a bit, as well. I briefly tested out a 5-speed build, but after running it a bit noticed I was only using 2nd-5th, so I went back and reworked it as a stand-alone 4-speed. It’s ever-so-slightly slower exiting the hairpin at the end of the ubersweeper than the original 4-speed, but I have to shift at least two less times overall and the powerband coverage is much better for the entirety of the track. I’ll call that a win.

Car’s pretty well sorted, so unless I have an epiphany about something-or-other the setup should be done. Uploaded as HLC19 HH v1.3. Got a 2:04.3 that would have been clean (as far as I could tell) if I hadn’t dirtied the previous lap on turn 11 (the right hander right after the final checkpoint), so I’m hoping I can get some seat time in tomorrow and maybe break into the 2:03 range. We’ll see.

Current least-worst: 2:04.815 ~ 170 miles, 2h 10m.

It’s worth it to go through the in-game settings and tinker around with them one at a time to get a feel for what they do. It took me quite a bit of experimentation to find a setup I was happy with. Regardless, enjoy the wheel. The game’s way more enjoyable with one, regardless of how competitive it may or may not be.

Thanks Mr. P.! I like to win, but I love to drive. I spent probably 3 or so hours with it last night. I’m 3 seconds off my previous best, but I had an absolute blast.

I’m still getting the redneck chassis sorted out. Currently, my legs are bunched up like I’m in a single seater.

After pushing a bit harder through several sections, I decided an adjustment to gearing wasn’t a bad idea. First is a bit lower, second and third a very tiny amount higher, and fourth a moderate amount higher. Car doesn’t bounce off the rev limiter if you get a good run on one of the straights anymore (at least not when I’m driving it). Also raised the tire pressure to 29.5 F/R and strengthened the Accel on the differential a bit to see if I couldn’t get better pull coming out of the hairpin. Setup uploaded as HLC19 HH v1.4.

Current best: 2:04.145 ~ 240 miles, 3h 03m

Still haven’t seen the south side of 2:04, but it’s just a matter of seat time at this point. Not sure I’ll get it, but we’ll see.

GREAT job Burnin!..:+1:

Anyone aware of glitch or reason for preventing me from equipping upgrades? I was attempting a build of the vette and I wanted to equip the supercharger, which was purchased when I installed a downloaded tune. I hit the button to equip it and nothing happens. It shows it is owned, but wont allow me to equip it. Really odd. I reset the game, console, and even uninstalled the game and reinstalled it to no avail. Still doing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This glitch has been present in every FM game. It only affects aspiration conversions, but like fifty inch said, if you load a setup that uses an aspiration conversion before equipping it yourself, the car is permanently damaged. Make sure you buy all the conversions yourself before loading any setups.

This is a known issue. You have to sell the car and repurchase it in order to be able to install the supercharger upgrade again.

Make sure though that you don’t load a tune that uses the supercharger upgrade in between. Otherwise you run into the same cycle again.

As much fun as it is to throw an American icon around a German iconic ribbon… :face_with_monocle:… I have been fruitlessly chasing my ghost in pursuit of a PB that was not to be. And I hate to admit it… but that tells me I’m at my talent limit. Sooooo…

That turned into quite a week! Five of our drivers claimed top 10 positions with xAlea Jacta Est, and THR Rich having an exciting battle for top spot. The lead changed hands several times with xAlea taking the win by less than a tenth of a second.

Third place went to minsons, with PRKid and Bubba also claiming top 10 positions.

fifty inch had another good week, not only winning tier 2, but also creating the setup that Rich used in his battle with xAlea.

Tier 3 turned into a battle of the Ford Coupes. Okierican winning out in the Five-Window.

Only 23 drivers this week, but some excellent driving! .

Congratulations to all our winners.

Here is a snapshot of the final standings:

Our winners:

Tier 1: xAlea Jacta Est wins a paint for his 1953 Chevrolet Corvette.
