HDR ON PC!

It still baffles me to play this game on pc without HDR. why on Earth ms doesnt release a patch, most people playing 4k plays on tv compatible with hdr anyway.

As much as i approve quality improvements, i rather have them fix the game first before even thinking of adding HDR or 4K support for xbox…

The developers of Gears of War 4 have been quoted as saying the Xbox one version has HDR, the pc has 4K but only the Scorpio will have HDR and 4K.
I’m guessing Microsoft has done a deal with both developers to not release HDR on the pc versions so as to promote it on the Scorpio.

The most likely reason that we are just now beginning to see HDR games on PC is the fact that the technologies and standards that are involved in bringing HDR to PCs are still new and current HDMI standards (HDMI 2.0) do not support HDR on PC. For that matter, I don’t believe Windows 10 fully supports HDR yet either. The full HDMI 2.1 standard has not even been published yet. These are still new technologies and the industry is still sifting through exactly what needs to be used and how it needs to be used to deliver all these new features and resolutions.

HDR is in effect completely broken on Windows PC’s.

Microsoft have updated Windows 10 to support HDR with the creators update but the way they went about it has left everyone in the dark breaking existing HDR solutions used by third parties and not warning the game developers beforehand or if you prefer it the other way game devs weren’t paying attention, MS does put out developer notices about changes to Windows.

Either way drivers & software have to be updated in how it works with the official HDR method in Windows.

So any HDR support in Forza has to wait until the official HDR sub-system Windows/drivers/display situation stabilizes. It would be nice if Microsoft at least got Forza on PC as a showpiece of how to do HDR in Windows 10 properly.

Also keep in mind a lot of PC HDR displays are not real HDR at all, proper HDR is very expensive to implement with a full-array backlight dimming system, cheap HDR displays do not have these with only a tiny fraction of the necessary backlight/dimming required.

Well, now Forza 7 has HDR running and the latest W10 update seems to have fixed most of the issues with HDR display. I hope that Playground decides to patch it into the game soon, it really enhances the experience quite a bit.

So is anyone playing in HDR? If so, what display do you use? Maybe this question should go to Forza 7…

Samsung 55" KS8000. Bought it last year. Sold my Xbox One S to buy a PC cause I figured it’d have HDR support alongside 4K. I’m glad it does in FM7 because games like Gears 4 don’t support it on PC.

So, a TV… I see there are more and more HDR TVs available. But no PC displays?
