[HCR] Open Source X Class Lotus E23 and IndyCar - Both for Leaderboards and Ghost League!

Hi all,

With the imminent arrival of X class Ghost Leagues I’d like to share a couple of tunes with you.

First is the obvious choice: the Lotus.

As cars go, this is quite an animal, but I’ve got something going on here. I’m setting top 5s and 10s in my first few outings so I can’t complain much!

Tune:

Tyre Pressures: 30.0/30.0

Gearing: FD: 6.10. Then as follows: 1.15; 0.90; 0.76; 0.66; the rest are irrelevant.

Alignment:
Camber: -2.3/-1.7
Toe: 0/0
Caster7.0

Anti-Roll Bars: 35.00/30.00

Springs:
Stiffness: 555.0/500.0 lb/in
Height: Min

Damping:
Rebound: 9.9/7.7
Bump: 11.8/6.6

Aero: Max

Braking: 43% bias, 150% pressure. (Adjust to preference, but too far rear bias may cause oversteer)

Diff: 20% Accel; 100% Decel

IndyCar

This is the second choice, and a really nice car to drive. The struggle is to eke out its maximum potential. It’s basically the only other choice unless you want to drive an e-tron Quattro. This tune held a #1 until some meanies in F1 cars sniped it! On the right tracks, mainly where the F1 car may struggle, it can get up there and get near. I have some top 5s and 10s in this car on wet tracks. The F1 car should beat it but I’ll run the F1 car when these times eventually become knocked down.

Tune

Tyre Pressures: 30.5/30.0

Gearing: FD: 6.10; then as follows: 1.70; 1,36; 1.16; 1.01; 0.91; 0.84

Alignment:
Camber: -2.4/-1.3
Toe: 0.3/0.1
Caster 7.0

Anti-Roll Bars: 1.00/40.00

Springs:
Stiffness: 256.0/555.0 lb/in
Height: Min

Damping
Rebound: 5.0/13.0
Bump: 3.0/7.0

Aero: Max - this is good for acceleration, which is where most time is made. On longer tracks should you need to, you may remove some rear.

Braking: 37% front bias; 140% pressure (adjust to preference)

Diff: 100% accel; 0% decel

I hope you enjoy these tunes and maybe see you in the ghost league races!

Cheers!

Hey Motorhead, 2 questions:

  • Is TCS mandatory for the Lotus?
  • Does it matter which IndyCar I use this tune on (Honda/Chevvy) or are they all the same?

I would strongly recommend it. TCS off should be fine on the IndyCar though. I’d also strongly recommend manual sequential on both as both cars stall no matter what, but both first gears are longer for traction reasons anyway.

Trying out your Indy tune on the #27 Honda with no assists:

It’s easy to drive, the tuning numbers look like it would oversteer massively but it’s on rails in some places.

At 140% brake pressure I was locking up when shifting down to 3rd, currently testing 130%.

The car stalls off the line. I only ever use 1st to launch so I’ll try shorting that gear and see if it helps.

I’m still getting a little bit of understeer in slower corners. Settings-wise the only thing that can fix this is Rear Toe since your other numbers are maxed out, but I’ve been reading that Rear Toe is “backwards” in this game so I’m not touching it for now.

I’ve only unsettled the car when jumping around the kerbs of Yas Marina and the likes in it.

It naturally understeers as it doesn’t have the widest front tyres. To counter it, you have to get on the power really early. Using manual with clutch will stall it every time, manual sequential eliminates this but if you want to launch with clutch then you have to keep the throttle in and spam the clutch button.

Wow thanks Motorhead. Any times worth mentioning? This seems great!

WBCU VETTEL

I’ll do some tonight, my first lap in angst last night were Bugatti at night and I got third, but your team mate set a very good lap there.

Same with Sebring Club in the wet. I had the #1 in the IndyCar which was the only #1 for it outside of an oval but Audi R18 came and took that too :stuck_out_tongue:

People quitting league races is a huge problem. your mid pack they all quit and you get 100 points. Over and over this happens. Not fair to take away points for people you would have beat anyway

I’ve only ever seen mass quit outs when we’re doing the Behemoth at night. What bright spark thought to put that in the track rotation?

Anyone had any luck in this?

I’ve set a number of the fastest IndyCar times on the Hardcore boards, but naturally people driving the E23 do better.

Good job, the IndyCar would be a lot nicer to drive hardcore than the E23, so there may be chances to be among all the E23s on hardcore in some places.

In the majority of places I’ve ran the IndyCar, I have the outright fastest IndyCar lap. I’ll update the OP with all the good times set by you and I.

i am looking forward to testing your lotus tune. unfortunately i am no where near X class yet, currently doing the lower classes. i must admit the 100% decel shocked me but you are a fantastic racer/tuner and if you say the car needs it then i believe you.

thanks again for open sourcing tunes for us little guys.

I will give them a try tomorrow, i will let ya know how they do.
