Have had "Weak Network Connection" since Forza 6, day 1 of release

Hello All,
I’m UK based and have good, solid broadband here, Fibre optic - 50mb down, 3mb up, 10ms ping etc. I never have any issues going on with day to day use of the broadband.

Forza 4 and 5 were both fine, had the weak network connection message maybe a couple of times over the years I played those games. With Forza 6, I have this message 80-90% of the time and it is making the game unplayable a lot of the time.

If I come out of the problem lobby (and can find another active lobby in that class - not always the case), often the problem suddenly disappears.

Is anyone else suffering this? Is it something to do with other racers in that particular lobby and their location to me? I cannot find many posts and nothing recently, so I honestly wonder if I am alone here.

Many thanks.

I suggest you investigate the information on network settings here: Xbox Support

It should guide you through testing your connection, and possibly making adjustments on the settings for your specific router/modem/gateway hardware you’re using. Size or speed of what you purchase from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) doesn’t matter unless the settings are proper and you have an OPEN Network Address Translation (NAT) setting.

The information on the link above will provide you with the proper setup.

Thanks for the info Snowowl.

I am on a wired connection, NAT is open, all relevant ports (50,3074,500,3744 etc) have been correctly forwarded on the router. There is no change on my set up between forza 5 (always a good connection) and forza 6 (80% laggy and unplayable). Have no problems what so ever being online with the xbox one, any other games like GTA V play perfectly in multiplayer.

If, as mentioned before, I swap from one B class lobby into another, sometimes the problem magically goes away and everything is perfect in the time it takes to do that, so I just can’t fathom how there is a problem my end or with my router/broadband/settings.

Any ideas where to go from here? Turn, my ISP, some other solution?

Cheers, Chris.

I would contact your ISP and speak with one of their techs. Some weird things can happen, like if you test your connection (look up DSL or better speed tests) and you’ve got a high ping rate or lots of “jitter” those could affect your connection. If you are provisioned (via the ISP) for a certain rate, and they’ve pushed the limits for that much, it might just be a small adjustment on their side on the capacity so you’re not bumping around the outer limits all the time.

I have now spoken with my ISP. There is literally nothing wrong with my connection. I have been through every nook and cranny inside my router. I have tried port forwarding, upnp, dmz, firewalls, every possible combination there of. I tried wireless, bought a new ethernet cable and went back to wired. I have done hard resets, made sure every other device is off in the house. Of course, nothing solves it.

No other service or game causes a single issue in this house, either Xbox one, Xbox 360, PC or mobile device… never has done.

It makes no sense what so ever that switching between one online lobby and another instantly fixes a terrible laggy connection. I have since spoken with a couple of other players and they both said the same… weak network connection is a constant pain. Neither post on here of course.

There are videos on youtube with that message and the same thing always happens… You see other cars wobbling about and crashes happen out of nowhere. It only needs to be subtle and the whole game is ruined. Before you know it, some innocent player has been tapped off next to me. Next thing they are baying for my blood on the track. What a load of rubbish. it’s nonsense that so many people have constant network issues with this game, whether they be laggy connections, disconnects or not even able to get in and play online at all.

Maybe it magically getting better when you switch hoppers is because you’ve joined a majority UK lobby and have just left a majority US hopper? Just a thought
