Absolutely not. 60FPS is the sweet spot. 120 is overkill. I see very little difference after 60FPS. Literally the ONLY application where this is remotely necessary is with shooters. All other games fare just fine at 60FPS.
Check the Dirt 5 info, it’s much better with 120 and Dirt doesn’t have complex physics like Forzas. It’s much better to have better input lag for it. 60 is too old and slow.
I have a series X and Dirt 5. Not impressed. 120 fps just means worse graphics far as I can tell. 60 fps is all that is necessary. FH4 running at 60 is a far more enjoyable experience than Dirt 5 running at 120. Most input lag come from wireless input devices in the first place. Best way to overcome that is to not run wireless input devices.
Unlocked framerate, average 142fps, average latency 19.1ms
Locked 60fps, average latency 75.5ms
Those are the latencies reported by the in-game benchmark. So it’s 56ms of extra latency.
As wireless input was mentioned - for comparison, the wireless mouse I use has 11ms of input latency vs 7ms for the fastest wired mouse, so that’s only adding 4ms.
And before someone says 60fps is only 16ms per frame, don’t blame me, I didn’t write the code. It’s probably triple buffering or something when you lock the framerate.
All that is fine and dandy. My point is that none of it results in better lap times at least for me according to my tests. I set my pc to 100+ = same lap time I get with it set to 60.
Funny. I thought we were talking about racing here. In racing it makes almost 0 difference. I’ve done the tests myself with my 144hz pc monitor. My lap times show no change whether I run 100+ fps or 60. 30 fps is a different story, my times improve drastically when I go from 30 to 60.
We are talking about smooth move and decreased input lag in 120 FPS. Both are big factors for 120 FPS. 60 is not smooth and input lag is too high. Some people are too slow to see it, it’s OK. Some don’t even see 30 FPS as a problem. People are different but numbers not.
That might please the 1% of consumers who have such screens. Although I doubt they’d like the graphical compromises needed to get 120fps, judging by the likes of Dirt 5 which looks like an Xbox 360 game.
That’s true. Screens are OK but people are not. Many people can’t see a problem with 30 which a bit crazy but that’s how world works Open-world game would be very ambitious but if you bring me X1X performance mode with the same graphics and resolution I am happy. New Forzas needs AI tuning badly so graphics could be very similar.
Assets should be the same for new Forzas because creating better new cars would be impossible. Normal games has 100 cars and Horizon has over 700 already.
120 fps will be widespread due to HDMI 2.1 but competitive community are the only people who would really use it. I’d rather see 120 fps in Forza Motorsport, myself.
Most people play FH4 in 30 fps and don’t really care. Although I will say that 60 fps improves response greatly and is quite fun to mess with.
Most people don’t even have 4k screens and the people who do have them, bought them in the past few years. If they’re anything like me, they have no plans to upgrade anytime soon because of an hdmi standard that will make some games run faster at the expense of graphic fidelity. Not to mention, the 2.1 / 120hz screens that are being sold today will be outdated in 3 years.
For normal Players there is no real use for 120fps. In some Shooter PVP yes it can have a effect but vs AI its also not important.
Im happy enough with the reflections in FH4 on SeriesX here. In puddles its enough and while driving with >100kmh you’re not looking at this stuff the whole time. The reflections on the Car are improved and with incar view u dont care that much. Might be cool for Photomode if RT is used. AO is needed to improve the overall look.
In Watchdogs its too much sometimes it feels like ‘Oh lets place puddles everywhere to show RT’ in SOTTR its used for the shadows so yeah RT can help on PointlightShadows but if the Character is moving u dont care about hidef shadows under some leaves. Most important is a working game and real RT in Games won’t exist for the next years or never (not sure).
Looking at the Forza Motorsport Trailer shows how it ends never seen a Garage with same shiny floor and most of the time ur on the track not in the garage
