Just to make it clear: This thread is not about poor performance. Even that I also have performance problems sometimes, it’s nothing compared to the issues that seems to go on with the resolution scaling, which make the game looks worse than Forza Motorsport 5…
After watching the Digital Foundry PC Optimization video, this is what i use for my setup:
Specs:
- 3440 x 1440px Ultrawide 34 inch 144hz monitor
- RTX 3080
- AMD 5800X3D
- 32GB DD4 Ram 3600 Mhz
This gets me 72fps rock solid in full ai grid + thunderstorm weather.
Note that it’s 36fps (half) in game menus because of the way that “auto” Performance Target works. I like that cause it means it doesn’t run my gpu at full beans in the menus, sitting at 56% in menus. just chillin’ out.
My settings in 4 pictures:
Additonal Resources:

Unfortunately, that didn’t solved the issue for me. It still looks nearly the same like it does in the original post.
Just watched the video myself and after following their advice of restarting the game after each setting change, my picture is crystal clear. 4k native, and I didn’t even have to use DLSS (nvidia 3080)
At least I presume that was what was driving me crazy yesterday after changing numerous settings, but somehow seeing worse results whatever I chose. The game itself tells you to exit to the menu for changes to take effect, but like DF says, restart your game if you’re still having issues.
Many thanks to the posters in this thread and digital foundry
Glad you solved it!
I even resettet the cache and let the shaders completely rebuild after the last graphics settings change, but that also didnt help…
TAA is terrible, it ruined halo (such a nice looking game ruined with Vaseline slapped over it) TAA looks only decent in screenshots, any motion, and it turns into blur fest, makes 1080p look sub 900p, and it strains my eyes
Even if it breaks some lighting, let us toggle it off, I would rather jaggies or use a higher resolution and super sampling as anti aliasing if I had too
Also poor performance in this game
Every option “has a significant impact on GPU/CPU performance”. Great description, y’all.
No matter what I change, the game’s got a metric ton of motion blur thanks to TAA, and loss of detail is excruciating in a game like this. Everything is in motion, so everything gets smeared. Even in the opening demo/showcase race, that Corvette has a string of ghosts chasing after it as it pulls up and past the camera. Does the foliage have to look like blurry hair? No. Let it be jaggy; we’re zipping past it at 60+ MPH most of the time.
Make AA a toggleable option in this game, please! It’s causing eye strain to play.
Hopeful day one patch with optimize and TAA off option
I’ve got the same issue, graphics in cockpit view look appalling (very blurry).
System is 5800x3D and Radeon 7900XTX, all maximum settings.
Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Motorsport 7 look significantly better. Hoping this is fixed soon!
EDIT: Some success - if you set resolution scale to 150% that helps considerably
I feel like dynamic rendering is the main offender for this. There is no option to turn it off and it’s making my game extremely blurry with every setting on ultra. I have a 4090 and can’t even enjoy the graphics because it legit looks like I’m playing in 1080p.
Same issue here, everything is a blurry mess. FH5 looks like 10x better.
4090 + 13700kf
I’ve viewed a fair few videos on YouTube now of supposed PC players, worryingly it doesn’t look like all have the same issues…!
I wanted to share some screenshots to show how blurred and almost broken the visuals look for me.
I’ve also played around with settings and found interesting results.
To start. Here are some screenshots with everything set to Ultra, RT set to highest setting with RTAO, Native 4K at 100% Resolution Scale with no DLSS.
Very soft image for native 4K and look at all those hard edges (Also why does the interior look so flat?)
Now these schots above are when the camera isn’t moving. In motion it becomes a blocky mess as below!
Now, when I switch RT to only car reflections or completely off. Basically turning RTAO off.
It looks a lot sharper!
Game seems totally broken for me though. Even with RT set to off I’m stuck at 45fps during races on an RTX3080 PC. And the game looks pretty bad without the RT honestly. It doesn’t even hold a candle to Horizon 5.
It’s all very puzzling.
Running RTX3070Ti + Ryzen 5800x3d, in 1440p, game is behaving very weird for me, after using DF optimized settings (Dynamic Render Quality at High, full RT) I can easily get 60/70/80 fps in Freeplay Mode, full car field, rain etc. But when I get into Career mode I can just run one practice, or sometimes practice+race and on the next race fps tanks to 20-30 fps…
So basically I can just finish a race and I need to restart game for the next race… But it works perfectly in Freeplay…
It strange to me that no one of YouTubers that have gotten game earlier experienced same problems?! Here on Forums and on Reddit I see a lot of people posting same issues while running in some cases even RTX4090…
It CAN NOT be issue of not restarting the game after changing settings, NOT for so many people…
And we haven’t heard a beep from Turn10…
Game is clearly broken, and we paid premium to be f-ing Alpha testers…
Running a 4080, got image scaling issues here as well, everything is get to ultra, 1440p. Game looks horrible, very pixelated. If I run it at 200% scale it looks a bit better but can still see very bad pixel shimmer and stair stepping on the roof and wheel arches. If I enable DLAA it looks like I am running it at 720p. Pssed off I paid for this shh!t. Forza horizon looks so much better
Taa is a terrible option the blur and ghosting is absolutely horrendous, please bring back MSAA. We don’t mind shimmering, we can deal with that but ghosting and blur is almost a deal breaker. Also the stuttering on PC is really bad 10900k 4070ti 64gb ram on nvme ssd should run fine but it doesn’t, replays and gameplay have very bad stutter even with higer fps, plz fix cos the game has so much potential to be an amazing simulator.
Worst part is with a card like that it’d be more than resonable to lower the graphics settings a little and supersample. It should be easily possible to get practically perfect image quality, you’re just not allowed to because… reasons
5800X + 6800XT, 32GB RAM. Game runs at hight frame rate at 2560x1440, RT off, FSR off. 110% scalling. High+ultra settings. Image is terrible quality - extremally soft and blurry.
Old camera controls is also bad (right stick up and side instead just move it left or right).
And on S+ car class traction control won’t let you fully use car oversteer untill hard slow down of the car - just like in FM7 (all other game let you do this).
Overall I’m happy I tested it at friend and not bought this. We spend 6 hours at this game, and we both have enough.
