What are some good S/R/P class cars, that are not leaderboard cars? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
GT2 RS, 996 GT3 or Caterham 500 for S Class. GT2 RS is my current go to car, awesome on all tracks, even in the Alps. Tend to prefer lower grip, harder accelerating cars in S Class.
There are loads in S class. I really like the Ferrari 599 GTO and Porsche GT3 RS 4.0 myself as all-rounders, but I often just pick cars at semi-random in S class and it’s rare I find one that isn’t broadly competitive (top 5-ish, though maybe not top 2 if there are decent drivers in track-specific or LB cars in the lobby).
In R class the fastest GT cars (DBR9, GT1, NISMO) are good everywhere without ever being dominant. Aside from those the Enzo is great fun and the Lotus 2 Eleven is great to drive.
I don’t do enough P class to comment.
I don’t know if these are leaderboard cars because I don’t pay attention to that.
I enjoy the Ferrari F-50 for S class. The Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster is fun for R class.
The 1991 Ferrari 512 TR is pretty solid in S class. It’s AWD so it handles pretty well in all conditions and has solid acceleration. It’s usually my default S-class car in hoppers if I can’t find a more specific car for a track.
P class, I’d say the Toyota GT-One, Bentley, and Peugeot (my favorite) if you don’t want LB but competitive. Depending on skill level, you could be somewhat competitive to the Mazda, Porsche, and Jag. The LMP cars are really easy to drive, but for the most part, noncompetitive. I really like the Lexus LFA for S class, the BMW 3.0 CSL (kind of a LB car though), and the 09 Corvette ZR-1.
Haven’t raced R class is a really long time, can’t really remember anything non LB, although I really like the Huracan
In S Class, look for cars with decent downforce above the standard forza aero. For example, the 2016 Audi R8, The McLaren F1 GT, and BMW M1 Procar are all fast cars and relatively easy cars to drive. Avoid Front Wheel Drive and stay away from muscle cars which are a bit tricky with that much power. One of my favorites for S Class is the Ford RS200, which is a rocket on tracks with acceleration.
In R Class, there begins to be a gap between certain classes of cars, with the Can-Am machines being more or less dominant as far as pace is concerned. Other good cars include the IMSA GT models like the Mercury Cougar, #31 Lancia, and the RX7. Also, the Huracan GT3 and Porsche GT1 are quite quick. If you have it, the Ferrari 312 P unicorn is a great car to race and is quite quick as well. Keep a powerful car in your garage for Daytona and other similar tracks. The Ultima is an obvious choice but there are other models, including the Maserati MC Trofeo, which excel when built for these conditions.
In P Class, you need to chose a car based on your approach to the lobby. If you aren’t the quickest driver, or if you’ve got your eye set on the win, the Mazda 787 B and Jaguar XJR-9 are sure to give you a good result. If you’re not into lobby domination, you could look to the Daytona Prototypes or Peugoet 908 and other similar cars from that era. The modern LMP1 machines are alright in good hands but aren’t usually very competitive. One thing to note is to avoid production cars, typically they don’t utilize all of the PI available for the class and are very slow in relation to purpose built machines.
Don’t be afraid to try the leaderboard cars just because other people don’t like them. There are some very fun cars that I think you would enjoy even if they are somewhat op.
I personally think the McLaren f1 and the farrari 488 gtb are good in s class there hard to drive and get right but if your skilled enough you can beat those lb cars in the hoppers.
My two litres:
S Class: BAC Mono; BMW M1 Procar; BMW CSL ; Ferrari 512LM; Dodge Viper 09; Aston One-77 is very quick sounds great and has pretty neutral handling
R Class: Ultima GTR; Porsche GT1; Pagani Zonda Cinque; Viper SRT; Corvette C7R is really nicely balanced; Ford GT LeMans is very nice too. I like the Nismo GT-R a lot too. Love the Aston DBR of course, but never have the nerve to drive it in lobbies… see too many.
P Class: I love the Peugeot 905C and Corvette D(aytona) P(rototype) and… for a wild, scary ride, the Porsche 962C (two words: throttle modulation!!!)
The Noble M600 is a good power for S class i find. The Formula Ford is also very grippy but rarely ever used, which is why I love it.
Thanks for the awesome replies, will start trying these out ASAP
I’ve had great luck with 60s F1 cars in S class. Just remember they don’t have headlights lol
For S Class I use the Ferrari 458 Speciale (Dog of a car to drive but with the right tune and getting used to it can be really fast), Maserati MC Trofeo, Corvette C7 Z06 and Lamborghini Huracan.
R Class I use the McLaren P1 (Incredibly fast with the right tune, I can finish on the podium easily), Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster, Lamborghini Veneno and Corvette C7.R (Really Balanced and fun car).
P Class: BMW V12 LMR (My personal favourite car for P Class), Porsche 919 Hybrid, Corvette Daytona Prototype and Toyota TS040 (Not the quickest but good in the rain and very fun).
