Ghost Lap, Not ghost Lobbies!

I don’t agree with more ghost lobbies but I do have a great alternative idea!

First of all add another lap to the tracks that need it. IE road America, silver stone, Sebring, etc (the ring too please in b class

Then add another lap to EVERY track and make the first lap a ghost lap.

When racers cross the finish line onto lap two the car solidifies and it becomes a real race!

This solves: off the line destruction caused by drivetrain differences, tune/build differences EX FWD launch vs AWD and speed vs accelerate tunes etc etc

This also solves first corner chaos, and will hopefully deter crashers from committing to an entire race of destruction. If they have to do an entire lap in their POS tunes just to crash people, I think they’d be less likely!

This creates: A much more entertaining lobby where people who want to race in collision lobbies still have an opportunity to bump and grind without the chaos of the rough starts and first turn destruction!

OR alternatively Create separate Pinnacle and Elite public lobbies, and then merge the lower classes into one group!

The start and first lap of a race is massively important. Making up a few places off the line and through the first few corners is really what motor racing is all about. I understand why you’d like it ghosted but for me it would completely neuter the game. What we need is a way to deal with idiots (in this and other games) and not something that spoils the game for everyone.

Nah.

If you’re average like me, you count on the crashes in front of you to get into a reasonable position and stay there

It’s not the first time I heard this idea and similar.

But yeah… maybe the ghosting thing is really avoiding the issue.
Is it possible that simply adding more laps will weed out a lot of the bad stuff that happens, and provide a chance for you to recuperate if bad stuff does happen?

I mean, T10, it’s worth testing. I wonder if they should at least try some of these suggestions that everyone are bringing up here. I don’t mean like next year, but like tonight, or tmrw, for like a week, actually try some of these solutions. If they don’t work, fine…

I respectfully disagree, as I don’t believe the ghosting resolves the problem, it only hides it.

I’ll quote from the other thread:

Also, this is a very good analysis of what usually happens in a Hopper. Again, racecraft education can help:

The quote above from Outlier is spot on, especially the bit about “a misunderstanding of earlier collisions” or what i call the “revenge takedown” mentality - think Burnout. Poor racecraft and inexperience of sharing a track with others causes more collisions than the odd wrecker from my experience.

That GTA online idea is good. I can remember the info trails on the FM3 loading screens a lot better than the current ones, they just seemed more prominent. Those GTA screenshots can’t be missed.

I’m not against the ghost lap idea totally but just think there may be other less drastic options which put together might have the same end result. Take some ideas from those who do organised racing. One example is that they don’t start a race on cold tyres. No, i’m not suggesting a warm up lap just lets all start on warm tyres in multiplayer.

A multiplayer wishlist thread would be good to put some of these ideas to the test and give T10 something to go at from the experience of those of us racing online

So what you’re saying is you want the fastest guys to run away immediately, the entire field to spread and kill any chance of a proper race?

No thanks.

Proper racing has qualifying. This separate the slower drivers from the faster drivers. They do this because it makes better race. It aldo makes for safer racing.
Not to sound elitist, but I want to be group up with drivers of similar speed. Not stuck behind somebody that not going to give a good race.

And how many car/driver combos would cross the line at the same time… I haven’t done too many ghost lobbies, just enough that I have noticed that I don’t like them. and there is very often cars racing inside eachothers even after couple laps.

I don’t that it would be a big problem. Players would continue to be ghost until they separate. Just like in big wrecks where everyone is on top of each other.
