Hey guys,I’m pretty new to tuning but have had pretty good success over the past two games (FM7/FH3). I usually start with my alignment settings and go from there,Also using the telemetry to gage where it’s at.
Well over the past few days I’ve been messing with my 97’ Gtr R33 with a PI of S1. For some reason I can’t seem to get the tires above 170 degrees. It’s my understanding I need to be closer to 200 to get the most out of them. Maybe I shouldn’t be too concerned? I’m not really sure. I haven’t really touched much other than alignment but I’ll give you guys a generic breakdown of things.
Running the drift suspension because for some reason it seems to handle much better than the race type.
Camber is way negative like -2.7 in the front back is about -1.0. This seems way too negative and it really is cause of the tires also not heating evenly but it really seems to like more negative camber.
A little toe out up front .1 back is 0
Tires at 29 psi
That’s really all I’ve touched and it does pretty good honestly. I’m getting close to satisfied with it. But I just can’t get heat in the tires. I saw on a tuning guide that this was important, maybe it isn’t? Also this is no assists except normal steering if that counts.
Sorry for the longggggg post just trying to give a bit of info.
TL;DR can’t get tire temps above 170ish. Saw in a guide I needed to push for 200.
My view is tyre temp is not the end goal, it is the means of getting to the end goal.
The end goal is tyre pressure. I aim for 32psi or a little more.
With low tyre temp you gain less pressure through heat so just increase your starting pressure.
This may or may not change the temp but it will help get you to you target pressure.
I have yet to get this deep into FH4 tuning but in FH3 I found it was harder to get heat into the tyres so I used higher starting pressures.
Ok great that’s a relief then. I understand what you’re saying to about the end goal and yes I can agree 32-33 works well in most cases. So I’ll try focusing more on the actual pressure over the temp.
I appreciate the reply by the way!
Also in FH3 it seemed like a lot of tuners used the rally suspension, whereas for some reason on this car I’ve achieved my best results with the drift suspension? I guess that’s fine in this case just kinda wondering what everyone else is really going for in the case of road race tuning.
Same as above, I tend to aim for 32 PSI or as near as I can get, I drive the car for 5 mins or so and monitor the pressures & then the evenness of the temperatures to find the ideal camber (For me). Note: Weather such as snow and rain effects how the temperatures and pressures are, and obviously the dirt.
Whoah, that’s wrong & wrong.
Tires effectiveness is WAY more dependent on temperature than pressure. You guys are missing out on tons of grip.
It may sound counterintuitive, but reduce the air pressure. That will help your tires warm up faster. Increase downforce. More brake pressure towards that area. All of these things will help to different degrees don’t overdo it with any of the 3 and you should see improvement.
Good luck!

TIRES
Way late to mentioning, but commacheckz is right here. Tire temp is miles more important than pressure. I suggest testing 32 for a medium on any tire except for drag, and for drag I’d start with 15. Then change from there, raising if the temp in telemetry is too hot or lowering if the temp in telemetry is too cold.
DIFFERENTIAL
Believe it or not, differential also modifies tire pressure. Don’t quote me on it, however if I’m not mistaken a lower accel on diff makes the tire hotter and a higher diff makes it colder. Before you start saying tires aren’t that important, yes they are.
ALIGNMENT & ANTIROLL
This helps tire pressure on SPECIFIC tasks, so choices may vary. Camber negative = more cornering but worse straight stretch. Camber positive = more straight stretch but worse cornering.
Toe in = worse turning but better stability.
Toe out = better turning but worse stability.
Antiroll should be modified on everything, but except for drag because usually you find yourself not needing it.
