Gauging interest/popularity: Auctioned Limited Run paintjobs for FH3?

Hi guys!

Note to mods: this is a duplicated thread to one I’ve posted in the FM6 Paint Booth. If it’s deemed unnecessary to have it here too, feel free to remove/lock. I’m just trying to gauge interest, thus maximising exposure to the idea within appropriate boundaries.

I’m merely trying something out as an experiment for FH3. On FM6, I’ve created various paint jobs with varying success without any true ‘advertising’. Limited run paint jobs have always been something I’d like to try, but of course they only work if there’s enough interest and demand for them. With the return of the AH, I’d like to give it a go.

So what I want to do is gauge some interest in a fictional set of striping on the GT350R based on previous GT500s and dreaming up what could be offered on the real car. Also, a modern stripe set for the '17 Ford GT, designed to hark back to the traditional twin stripes of the old GT40s and the '05 GT, yet bringing a ore modern touch to it so that it fits the curvature of the bodywork. I would send them off on the Auction House and be unavailable on the Store Front, but they wouldn’t be ludicrously expensive, maybe something like 10% more than the car would cost whilst giving me a tiny bit of profit, and would each be unique colour scheme an number plate to each other - so they would be one offs within a small number run. I don’t expect to sell them quickly or for the millions other designers get by any means. I like to think they’d be a quirky purchase for those with an eye for basic, yet somewhat stylish liveries.

My question is this. Would you consider either of these in a 5-10 piece run?

I’m sorry. I don’t quite get what you are up to. Do you mind elaborating more on this?
What are ‘limited run paint jobs’? Is it a paint job that will only be made available for 5-10 people, as you mention? If correct, what’s the advantage of making it limited?
Why do they only work if there’s enough interest and demand for them? If this is your style and you like doing it, why should you depend on others?

As for the designs: that '17 GT looks awesome. It’s simplistic but elegant. I’m also digging the red one, but since its style is not that much different from the others, I think it’s also mainly my personal preference for the colour you gave it.

Of course!

So a limited run would be a few select designs based on the same livery, all in different colour schemes. For example, the red GT350 could come in blue and white, black and white, silver and black, etc. There would be one of each colour, totalling 5-10 cars within that design. Does that make a bit more sense?

I wouldn’t deem doing these as having ‘advantages’, but it does make the liveries more of a ‘special’ or ‘unique’ purchase - something you won’t necessarily get anywhere else as a package. As for the need for demand, the reason is purely because I would need to shift the cars on - the last thing I want is to have 5-10 Mustangs in my garage that I can’t move on! This is also why it depends on others because I could end up being a fair chunk of CR out of pocket if the idea flops

However, I have been thinking since and I might limit this to the GT350R design and the Ford GT, probably 5 pieces each. The rest of the Mustangs, as you say, are probably too similar to be truly unique to eachother.

Ah yes, I get the limited run idea now. I now also see how it’s necessary people are interested in them. I agree it would be too much of a problem having 10 Mustangs in your garage. Then again, do we not have an option to save multiple liveries for a single car, so we could change it on the fly? (I can’t remember if this was already in or not or if it was added, skipped FM5 and 6)

I think it’s a good choice picking one of the Mustangs and the GT. If you’d sell 5-10 pieces of the first 3 with only slight differences (except for the colours used), you’d still sell ~30 very similar cars and, as you mention, they’ll be less unique. Although I doubt I will ever come across one of the other 29 people that would buy it.
I do love that GT. Would definitely grab that one.

I’m all for having some limited edition paints to be sold either in SF or AH. Unfortunately, I don’t see these as being it. These are just replicas of the the basic paint jobs that come on the car.

FYI OP: the License plate on the GT350R is going to be covered up on FH3 since we will get actual plates that we can customize :). but other than that amazing job on these cars. Basic but amazing looking.

I don’t expect these to be big hits by any means - there’s much better stuff out there for the kind of demand that would be generated by the likes of the top painters. I just plan on having a few going out to a few people. The exposure I’d like is to merely cover the few I’d hand out. Yeah, they’re pretty damn basic, but I think they’re somewhat elegant/minimalist in their design - anything more would be out of my abilities lol

I know the licence plates will be covered - it’s just where I’ve done these for FM6

Yes, they do look good and sometimes basic is all you need. There’s a reason why so many just put ‘go faster’ stripes on cars instead of intricate designs.
I hope you get enough interest for what you want to do.

Put me down for a 350. I really like the design and you’ve put your own look on it.
I like limited editions, on Forza 4 I was always entering the contests people did with 1 of a kind designs for participating and winning. My garages are pretty much full of one off designs or a paint only a handful have, makes them more special to me.
