G920 / G27 in FH4 constantly makes me spin out and unplayable

Being a big fan of the horizon series i got a G920 for my One X for FH4.

Now the game is out and i’m so frustrated to find that the cars are impossible to control. Im constantly spinning out, and losing traction / grip with the road surface. Offroad in particular is just impossible to do, even with rally cars. I used to be able to get to top 3 in online, and race against Pro drivatars.

In one instance i spun out to the right, i tried to rewind, and see if i could save it with controller. And what do you know, its was no problem to do with a controller. A simple tap to the left on the stick was enough. So i rewind, and i tried to “tap” the wheel left it would still spin out… no matter what i did the car went to the right. What the hell is happening? At this point i’m just about to give up, as racing with a wheel in this game is just so [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D]. Controller is just fine and pretty much the same as FH2 and 3.

I tried looking for various settings on the web, and none make it any better. I tried going back to FH2 and FH3, and have no issues there.

FYI i race just fine in FH2 and 3, Dirt 4, Dirt Rally, FM7 and Project Cars 1 & 2. As such i have no problem using and controlling with a wheel. How is this game harder than Dirt Rally and FM7?! i also tried with and without Traction - and stability control, and with normal and sim steering

Is this just me or what? Any suggestions?

I have the same problem playing with fanatec Csl elite. Just starts to slide and is then no way to save the car :frowning:
Using controller feels great so have Played with it since day 2.
But should be more fun with wheel but this bug makes it unplayable

Not just you: https://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst132935_-XBOX--FH4-Unplayable-with-Logitech-G920-Wheel.aspx

I’m patiently awaiting a fix, but afaik, T10/PG has not yet acknowledged the problem.

It’s not just you. I’m having he exact same problem (on PC) with the 920. I didn’t really notice it until i tried to do the first offraod introduction and I would spin out feet into the first turn - tried it probably 30 times. Keyboard/gamepad, like you said, needs a little tap and its no problem.

g920 user here so I share the frustration. Hoping they get it all sorted out but wheel users have never been a big priority.

same problem also I keep hearing sounds when I change gear with the clutch .

Same steering problem. To stop the clutch noise shift slower, it’s dumb but its better than hearing that horrible noise.

Thats not the problem, the noise comes from passing neutral. No matter how slow or neatly you shift. Even sitting still going through the gearbox give clutch crunch every time you pass neutral. Went back to horizon 2 and 3 today just to check, and yes, horizon 4’s wheel support is broken. Deadzones are just off or not existing and the clutch noise is a bug. Im on a g920 + shifter on xbox btw.

Yikes, I’m on a Fanatec CSL setup and if I slow down a tiny bit I get no noise at all.

I’m having the same problem with my thrustmaster tx on Xbox one. I’ve sent a support ticket with no response. Ridiculous.

This game isn’t gonna be for everyone who has a steering wheel setup, you’ll need a lot of practice and patients. The physics of the game make it extremely easy to spin out. You’ll have more control of the vehicle if you play with the pad. The physics in this game would have to be fundamentally changed when playing on a wheel vs gamepad to not ruin the experience on one or the other.

These settings feel a lot better when racing on the pavement but not so much on racing offroad; it’s hard to correct the steering when the vehicle spins out when off-roading.
These are my settings. I’m still adjusting them to my liking.

Steering axis deadzone inside: 0
Steering axis deeadzone outside: 100
Steering Linearity: 60
Acceleration axis deadzone inside: 0
Acceleration axis deeadzone outside: 100
Deacceleration axis deadzone inside: 0
Acceleration axis deadzone outside: 100
Clutch Axis deadzone inside: 15
Clutch Axis deadzone outside: 80
E-brake Axis deadzone inside: 10
E-brake Axis deadzone outside: 100
Vibration scale: 0
Force feedback scale: 27
Center spring scale: 0
wheel damper scale: 0
Force feedback understand: 0
Force feedback minimum force: 0
Wheel rotation angle: 270

I’m running WRA=420 FFU=25 Steering-Linearity=42 the higher I put SL the worse it gets…try lowering yours first.

G920 and PC here same issues
Hope they can sort the like driving on ice effect, and expand the deadzones, especially the brake.

This beautiful game is kinda on hold for me until you can drive in it !!

Hope we get a patch soon.

Same… Xbox 1s tmx pro… tried everything ,same result!, getting great points for spinning off into the British countryside though :+1:

Hey guys,

I don’t know if this is the same issue but when I play with my g920, if I turn the wheel right, the wheel returns to center normally, but when I turn left even slightly it spins hard to full lock left . Is this the same issue or does anyone know how to fix this?

thanks

I get you guys, I have a TM 458 Spyder (i know its bad but it was cheap) for Xbox one and I use it on my PC, I have these same issues and I used to be a top racer in FH3. Now I’ve realized any car with more than 600 HP I spin out in the middle of corners and I cannot save it. Until this is fixed or a solution is found, I’d advise playing B-A class Dirt Road Racing series, as the starting Lancia 037 Stradale has become my savior car and it never spins out on me and can keep good power down even mid air.

As mentioned in another thread setting “Steering axis deeadzone outside” to lowest value - 20 will make car way more controlable. Additionally custom tunes help a lot. Still its far from perfect and driving on dirt and offroad overall is a pain and its nearly impossible to win with other players using gamepad. Smaller games like ‘Dirt’ have good steering on wheel and gamepad out of the box, why forza cannot have it?
I hope that there will be patch, Im very dissapointed atm.

Very much the same issue here:

PC, G25. The cars are impossible to catch in a slide. And I mean they are impossible. I can drive better in hardcore sims than I can in this.

I can rewind to the point where the car starts to slide, and the car suddenly becomes recoverable just by leaving the wheel centred. So something strange is going on.
