I can’t tell you how many times I’d join what I thought was a regular race…a race that said something like 12 miles long only to appear to be in 1st and then literally lose the entire race 15 seconds in because someone designed the track so a quick 12 second shortcut across a field would get them the win.
I joined to race not to be an idiot. Getting rid of this mode is the best thing you could have done. It’s become hard finding a good race online… nobody joins and it’s probably because they don’t wanna deal with the BS.
but its only in street and road races. its still there for off-road and cross country so everyone will leave the lobbies when they are chosen. So every other lobby falls apart and you spend “waste” time searching for another lobby to join just to find its off-road too!
Did they really fix anything or just make it worse?
I think fix is started considering these changes while also bringing new is not a simple couple of clicks. For rally, I dont think it is as big of a deal. Still not ideal, but improved. Freeroam is a good match to cross country so no reason to remove it there. For the cross country, S2 is removed so that is pretty significant.
I dont expect it will mess up lobbies as much as people think. Enough people like the offroad and dirt. Launch of drift adventure will be more problematic for lobbies considering how popular that will certainly be.
Race in free roam against friends then… it’s stupid that a mode like that exists in a competitive gamemode, and even for cars that AREN’T MEANT to do cross country… so now you still get to play them, but with proper cars (tho i would have removed them completely, or at least from dirt races too, but at least it’s something).
Dunno about that… i came to forza in FH4, so all i know is this, and i think that mode shouldn’t belong in online races, maybe for friendly online races… but not competitive, too many random factors for it to be considered good, and also cars driving in places they shouldn’t be.
And the friends thing was me telling you (or the dude that i quoted, dunno if you’re the same), that if you like that gamemode, just go and drive anywhere in free roam, cuz it’s practically the same…
I’ll miss it in the street race rooms but i’ll still get it done for cross country. I’m not sure i’ll go back to the dirt/road rooms. Not until walls are removed completely anyway. I dont think that fix will do much. There’s no secret why I won freeroam so often, its cause I didnt have to be near the bad/dirty drivers. We still need a fully ghosted mode, the cheaters will still wreck you after that 30 second window. Its inevitable
Yeah they should have removed it from Dirt as well, and just left it in for cross country. Dirt races are best suited to cars, not off-road vehicles. So leaving freeroam rush in for Dirt means you have to compromise one way or the other on choice of vehicle, and that isn’t how any competitive mode should be.
Just remember, we created this mess called “freeroam rush” when we complained about the skill point whores in FH3. So to answer our complaints about people not going to the check-in but staying in a field gaining skill points they made it a rush and part of race series.
Sometimes you have to be carefully what you ask for!
Oh heck no. You can’t lay this at the community’s feet. First off, XP championships do not exist in FH4. That gripe was already solved. And even if it wasn’t, but it is, it’s a donkey brained solution that nobody asked for and wasn’t called for. Even if it was trying to address that gripe, which it isn’t because gripe was solved, how about getting rid of the drive between events, a la The Trial? The only purpose of the drive between events is to waste time.
It’s like an office building that blasts the heater in the summer … the workers complain so the building turns off the heat. Problem solved. There’s no reason to then fill the building with water, turn it into an aquarium and then make people work in scuba gear. Turning the heat off solved the problem, nobody asked work in an aquarium, and turning the building into an aquarium is an irrational response to anyone saying “it’s too hot in here”.
I never complained about the points system in Horizon 3. Horizon 2 was a different story but Horizon 3 was perfect. You would easily win the championship if you raced clean and came in first. If you came in first but wall-rode every turn you wouldn’t win the championship.
Yeah, right… You know how I won a number of championships with my alias game tags? I wouldn’t even go to the finish line on the free roam, I’d scout out as many xp boards as I could find, as well as save the forzathon xp bonus challenges for adventures. I’m sure it chaffed plenty how I’d go from last with a couple k XP, to 1st after one event with over 100k xp.
Just means the XP system would have needed an improvement not to be removed. Removing free roam points, low point for drifting in non drift races and XP system is good for FH4.
Honestly PG considering team playing would do best than XP system … seriously …
Yes! I miss that! The xp championship was also an incentive to race cleanly for the swiftly challenged, the lesser-skilled, the outright wreckless, and the jalopys. By focusing on skill and clean racing to gain xp instead of playing just to screw everyone else up & over, those players would have an opportunity to take the championship by their own merit, and ultimately join the civilized racing community. Now, all incentives for basic common decency have been removed, a decision which has inadvertedly relocated all online adventure gameplay out of Great Britain and straight into the Seventh Circle of He**. It’s a shame, really. Not only was the xp accumulation actully fun (stringing xp chains, scoring successful drift taps, etc), but we were able to really use and take advantage of our environment via destructibles (now largely rendered moot as well). And this Horizon 4 map with all it’s destructible goodness is extremely well-suited for the old xp championship and would’ve been a blast. But instead, we got a bust.
I think FRR should have stayed with checkpoints. Now its only 3 street races?
I just hopped on FH2 and they do 4 FRR and 4 races. So 8 total.
Now FH4 has 3 races in street? Seems really light.
Can someone confirm this?
Will loading times be faster now than FRR is gone? Isn’t FRR the culprit of 3-5 min load screens because it loads all the racers to the same starting position?
Taking FRR is good and bad…shortens the championship but eliminates the need for your road car to go on grass.
Now we patiently wait for Series 9 so we can set criteria for online adventure instead of lobby shopping for A - Road. One can only hope…
