When they try to fix things behind closed doors rather than asking for suggestions or communicating what the fix they are trying to implement is so they can get feedback prior to implementing a change, it frequently just results in “chasing your tail around,” creating one problem after another and leaving end users frustrated and unsatisfied. We as the community could provide feedback prior to things getting implemented if they communicated things to us. However, if they just do things behind closed doors like raise Forzathon Points for things based on average player FP banks, or add in FFA Team Adventure while at the same time removing Anything Goes Adventure, or issue the Mosler and Santa Suit as a gift to every single player for doing nothing (including every single player in the future that hasn’t even played the game yet) rather than fixing the event and having the event appear in the next series where it would be awarded properly.
If they communicated more clearly what their intention is with the wall riding / ramming fix we could provide our feedback. Such as maybe you should ghost players 50 feet before and after a turn of 60 degrees or more. As Rayne mentions, if they just apply a friction to the walls, people will definitely intentionally shove other players into the wall and have them get stuck while they just bounce of the victims car and carry on like nothing happened… Maybe also apply the same concept of ghosting cars that will make contact with one another 50 feet before a checkpoint to prevent people intentionally ramming people out of a checkpoint… Definitely don’t ghost everyone 100% of the race to allow for strategic blocking, and prevent turning MP into hot lapping against a bunch of ghosts.
Have you ever heard of crowdsourcing?! Why not all of us work together, instead of users and developers feeling like they are pitted against each other. After all, we don’t have a game without you and you don’t have a gaming community without us…
I want the fix too but I rather it be done correctly the first time. As of now I stick to street and cross country. Occasionally i’ll do some dirt but a lobby with circuit races, I will not enter. I already know the chaos that will ensue and it will only make me wanna throw my controller at the tv
I didn’t want to write this, but I have to. The prophecy is true.
Looks like I was right. I literally said a while ago it would take them 6 months to fix multiplayer (1 month to go). Update 7 will hit the 6 months mark and we have no words about ghost mode, rivals, lower classes choice, wall riding and the point system fixes.
I am seriously perplexed by how long it takes them to fix simple issues(except wall riding). Yes, simple. It cannot be so hard to remove free-roam rush from road racing class playlists, or even make free-roam rush not affecting your points when playing ranked(But we get custom route blueprints contests instead… routes that do not even get featured in multiplayer playlists…) Playground Games seriously need to take notes from EA DICE: these devs are actually communicating with their fan base, no matter which social media site. Battlefield 5 launched in a condition worse than FH4: it was a buggy mess. Guess what? DICE fixed their game in just 2 months, despite the fact the game sold terribly. TWO MONTHS. They added new mechanics, FIXED countless bugs that heavily affected gameplay, modified an entire multiplayer map, added new game modes and free content, and their game doesn’t even have Premium aka DLC pass. Now BF5 is really really really fun to play and it’s ready to get its content via live service. I am excited about the future of the game
What I just want portray with that is the fact that Playground Games don’t have their priorities right. The multiplayer is boring and it has been said trillions of times now that it is not on par with the other iterations of FH franchise… I am not excited to play the game anymore. It lacks features that should’ve been in the game since launch and we are waiting, waiting, waiting, and complaining, complaining, complaining and repeating, repeating, repeating the same things over and over and over and over again and again and again. See what I did there? They are taking way too long to add the fixes that could make the game so much more enjoyable. Right now this is ridiculous, this is a joke. This is just pathetic. So glad I didn’t buy the Ult… You know what I will just stop there.
This game seriously needs some kind of IN-GAME reporting system. I stream so I cant record the clip but I just had some idiot completely ruin my night. I was winning ALL night and we get S2 road racing. Driving along on the Colossus race and this guy knocked me into the lake. Went from 2nd place to last place and of course I get a DNF, finish 3rd overall AND lose my rank. These guys made absolutely no attempt to brake. Just straight up pedal to the metal and slamming into people in the corners and sliding along the wall. This is so ridiculous. Come on! Why do cheaters and yes they are cheating, why do they get rewarded and I get penalized??? STOP REWARDING BAD DRIVING!!
I’m gonna have to start writing down the names and submit a ticket. Who knows if they’ll get banned but we’ll see
After a race I did last night, I’ve realised there’s a bigger problem with wallriding. I’ve given up trying to race even remotely clean, I’m now happy to ram and wallride to level the playing field. But we did S1 dirt and one course I tested afterwards is about 10 seconds faster if you wallride, in a race lasting less than 3 minutes. The really huge problem with this, from a gameplay perspective, is that you can’t overtake, because there is only one racing line, sliding along the wall. So even if we all got over our ethical/purist objections and embraced wallriding, the lack of alternative lines makes overtaking extremely difficult, in a game where it’s already extremely difficult to start last and finish first in a 3 minute race. For ghost racing this wouldn’t be a problem, but for non-ghost racing, once everyone is wallriding to the max, the difficulty of overtaking makes the gameplay really poor. And you might say that you can overtake a wall rider by dive bombing through the inside flag instead, but once everyone is doing that, it’s no longer a way to overtake anyone.
Ghost racing really would solve a lot of those issues. Majority of the ramming begins as trying to get past someone and if you are quick enough to get past, they will take a swipe at you. The mountain dirt racing is huge with this. If your car is tuned right, you can get by someone without touching or riding the wall but once people get a taste of first place, it’s guarded like the last meal on earth. I’ve seen numerous people pushed down the mountain just to move up a place. I also noticed,I don’t even get aggressive about a podium spot until after we pass the 50% mark of a race. I rather finish 5th by hanging back opposed to gunning for 1st and being mauled. I’m becoming a patient racer, wait for others to make mistakes
Judging by a post earlier in this thread, yes, if they are reported enough they can be banned. Don’t make a ticket; that system is slower than the built-in reporting system.
Hey now, I’ve won overall in a RWD Diablo. I’ve kept up with Daytonas in my A800, Mugen Civic, and won rush with it. Have placed well in a '82 911 as well (full aero), almost won a rush until I was rammed down to 4th in the final moments. Working on a GT3 RS RWD S2 tune lately (not looking like it will work out at all) and the GTR-LM FE with the V8 swap can do 950 hp at 998 PI, and hooks even in the wet starting around 70 mph. I haven’t put a comprehensive tune on it yet either. I think it will be good. If you make smart cuts across terrain and don’t come to a dead stop from trees or anything, you can win rush in a 2WD. It does depend on who you’re racing against, that’s part of the fun.
Looks like Update 6 won’t have any significant changes or improvements to Multiplayer then.
Guess I’m not playing Forza Horizon 4 in February.
Enthusiasm for it within my club has dropped too; whenever we have a vote on what game to run for a session Forza Motorsport 7 has recently been winning by a significant margin. The public Multiplayer experience is fundamentally frustrating and there aren’t enough tools and options to make private racing enjoyable. The 12 player cap isn’t helping either when I regularly pull in 20+ for Forza Motorsport 7 sessions but that’s one thing that’s certainly not going to change.
My team tried to play the multiplayer of forza horizon 4, but due to the dirt of the players, lack of choice of classes and lack of adventure without touch, we are returning to forza horizon 3. Thank you Playground!
When will we get a patch ? Before Summer maybe ? And will it adress wallriding , crashing/corner bombing and add lower classes in online ? A ghost lobby would be nice too…
Its ridiculus that i cant use my preffered cars online unless i tune them into Racecars . As it is its almost a pure offline game for me…
We need clear statements and not such a “wischi waschi” …
its not … you prefer it because races are too choatic by design … but it still ruins road racing tunes in road racing adventure … its very much luck based … and its closer to cross country than road racing and i dont like it … and most of the community does (remember FH3 votes)
Everyone has their own opinion, in my opinion worst event that has ever made in any racing game. And even worst is that if you play adventures you are forced to do those all the times.
I have start thinking do devs actually want players stop playing online by not making any improvements abaout MP, over 80 pages and 4 month and only thing we have get is free for all (that was really bad design choise in first place publish racing game without solo online racing). Before holidays we get told many times that changes dont happend over the night and they want make things right at once. I can understand that changes dont happend over the night but i really cant understand when players allready in day one realize how dissapointing online is how in 4 months we have pretty mutch zero improvements.
And even worst is that devs havent told us nothing what their plan is abaout mp (or do they even have any). Last stream was worst stream that i have ever seen, oh just wait just end of the stream to reveal that “ops we have spent too mutch time by playing fortnite so we didint get any mp updates, sorry guys maybe next month” Even EA seems to be better communicate with players than PG.
In this point i have really low expectations to MP ever getting good, or even that would someday happend im pretty sure in that point im not anymore playing forza games, i have been patient but that dont last forever.
The common theme in these forums is REMOVE this or TAKE OUT that. Any developer who constantly hears remove this from your product or take out that, i’d be reluctant too. Fixing problems is an entirely different thing but MAJORITY of the suggestions is to remove something. If we’re being honest, i’d ignore requests to remove anything from a game I helped build. Implementing ghost racing or a wallriding fix is completely different than REMOVING things.
Then they need to put their personal / professional pride aside. If they have put garbage IN the game - which they have - then they need to be honest with themselves, admit they messed up, and take that garbage OUT.
I don’t think these developers will do that though. But others would, and have. And a damn sight quicker too, I will add. The idea oh it’s a big AAA game, these things take months and months… nope, no they don’t. Other major developers of much bigger games than this, can manage to do a lot more, a lot quicker. So all that’s lacking is the will. (I don’t think Microsoft is hurting for cash either so it can’t be lack of funds.)
Maybe you feel that majority of suggestions is remove something when pretty mutch every suggestion remove something is your loving freeroam rush (and cosmetic stuff in wheelspins). Majority of suggestions this topics is not abaout remove something, yes many of us want to see freeroam rush gone in road racing series but more suggestions are abaout adding something or make something life quality improvements (like wallriding fix, way to penalize ramming, showing snow tire icons allways etc)
Even EA do better job listening players abaout that, good example abaout that is their newest NHL game, players like mutch more how game feels in orginaly (in that point i say my friends, dont worry first update and game will be terrible again and i was right abaout that) so players complain abaout problems that game have, so they roll game back in last month collecting feedback and when that roll back test period was done, less than week later EA release new patch. Yet here we are after 4,5 months complaing still same ****** problems than day one and it seems PG couldnt even care less what we players thing abaout.
They’ve removed far enough. The majority of requests are to add to the product. The main thing people want removed is free roam rush.
Here’s a list of things that have been removed, are not present, or need improving in fh4.
Rivals mode: Deleted. Every other racing game ever made in human history had basic open time trials
Free-for-all Non-team Racing: Deleted (for months?). Was rightly included in every other racing game ever made. Non-team racing, each person versus everyone else. Was never planned for FH4 the fans got the devs to add it in.
Multiplayer choice: (still) Deleted. Every other multiplayer game ever made let’s you choose what you want to play (like Capture the Flag versus Deathmatch). Horizon 2, Horizon 3, and Horizon 4 give the player no choice about car class or mode(with 2 rounds of free roam rush every match in fh4). Horizon 3 patched (part of) this in after launch, Horizon 4 deleted it again.
Wall Riding: This has been a thing in every Forza Horizon and I’m sick of it. Impossible to win fairly playing against a wall rider.
Bucket List: Deleted. It’s been replaced with something smaller and more limited…and which resembles commercials. Yeah.
Custom Bucket List Blueprint: Deleted. These were great in Horizon 3.
Blueprint Event Posters: Deleted. Horizon 3 blueprint event posters included a special stylized photo for almost every car, which was determined by the first car you check off when you set the list of cars for the blueprint event. Now in Horizon 4 this is mostly changed to a generic inventory photo of the car from the same distance and angle. It varies, but I’ve seen a definite downgrade.
Car meets: Deleted. Maybe nobody used them much in Horizon 2, and they were reduced to a single drag meet in Horizon 3. But we should have the choice of “Start at house, or car meet, when starting the game”. The reason people didn’t use this feature isn’t because people don’t want car meets, the reason is because this feature wasn’t designed right: the car meets should have each been tailored to certain kinds of racing (Drag, dirt, pavement, touge, slow old cars, etc). Then players would have a reason to use them.
Extra Bonus Head to Heads: Deleted. every now and then in Horizon 3, a random head to head drivatar had an extra large pay-out and had a special icon on the GPS. Deleted from Horizon 4.
AI NPC Convoys: Deleted. In Horizon 3 you could honk horn at AI NPC drivers and they would join your convoy, often with the same category of car. Deleted in Horizon 4.
ONE DRIVE MP3 Integration with in-game Custom Radio Station: Deleted. This has nothing to do with Groove Service or Spotify. Forza Horizon 3 let you stream your music into the in-game radio station, with post-processing, from any mp3’s you uploaded to OneDrive. This excellent feature was deleted for Horizon 4.
Air rushing into cabin at high speed: Deleted. In Horizon 1 at high speed there’s an excellent sound effect of loud rumbling in the cabin when you get up to fast speed like 120mph. I’ve never noticed it in later games.
Horizon 1 had public custom searchable keyword lobbies. Deleted for all later Forzas. Now we get “zero choice” Multiplayer.
Championships: Deleted. Simple obvious feature of creating your own custom “series”…which already took 6 years of development before it appeared in Horizon 3. (Horizon 1 and Horizon 2 didn’t have this.) Deleted for Horizon 4.Interior Color Options: Still Doesn’t Exist after 15 years of Forza. Test Drive Unlimited had this years ago.
Hand-over-Hand Steering Animation: Still Doesn’t Exist after 15 years of Forza. Driver: San Fransisco had this in 2011.
Walkable/Fully Rendered Garage of favorite Cars: Still Doesn’t Exist after 15 years of Forza. Project Gotham Racing had this about 15 years ago, also Test Drive Unlimited.
Visible Mechanic Person / Animated Pit Stops: Still Doesn’t Exist after 15 years of Forza.
Navigation Map: Copy/Paste from Years Ago has not seen a shred of improvement in 8 years, still can’t zoom out all the way like every other digital map ever made in human history, still doesn’t correctly save your settings I don’t think, still hijacked by unskippable cut scenes
Auction House: Copy/Paste from Years Ago, still tedious and clunky, especially when you have to use the scrolling text box to search for a make/model. It doesn’t save your previous searches, backing out of certain areas clearly backs you out too far to the top level menu instead of going back just one level, the need to manually claim money is ridiculous, the “fee” is ridiculous. Hasn’t seen a shred of improvement in years.
Car Filter Menu: Copy/Paste from Years Ago. It’s a long clunky single column of randomized items, with the most important ones (AWD/RWD/FWD) all the way at the bottom, instead of being a helpful grid with some horizontal usefulness. And when you “move up” while on the top row, nothing happens, instead of “warping” to the bottom which was an obvious established feature of good interface design even on 8-bit Nintendo games 30 years ago.
Excellent post. What’s even more sad is that long, long list isn’t even everything. We’ve had the same terrible replay system since Horizon 1. Replay was more advanced before FH1 even in the Motorsport series. They just went backwards and stayed there for the better part of a decade.
They released the game with more cars than spots in the garage for the first time, got a modest increase recently, but still have more garage spots than tune or paint saves … and the limitation with each is because the framework hasn’t changed in at least 7 years. Maybe that has something to do with them stripping the game down, removing features. Maybe not. Maybe it was just a bunch of awful decisions.
