Who else is playing The Eliminator on XBOX with a manual gearbox?
Using the default layouts, going Manual removes the “map” binding.
Editing the layout to add a map function back somewhere means I need to move something, but theres already literally no space left, and, even worse, as soon as I go to a custom layout, I’m forced to bind Anna even though she was swapped to Telemetry in Advanced, and disabled entirely in Options.
WTF.
I’ve had to hide Switch Camera on Left Stick button and hope I don’t get too excited and press it while turning.
When driving an automatic its on the controllers “view” button by default, which makes it a single press to popup (and dismiss).
The “view” button, of course, becomes Activate in the Default Layout 1, when Manual shifting is chosen as “X” was Activate in Automatic but now needed for Shift Down.
Plus, its not just the extra button presses :- the Map loads a lot faster when loaded directly so you can pop it up for a quick assessment of your situation whereas, via the menu, I found myself preferring to drive blind.
Its not just the Map though. I feel that its wrong that so many buttons on my controller are just traps in Online Adventure and Eliminator game modes :- not only am I forced to bind them and they thus diminish the placement of buttons I want, but I cannot put them on buttons or sticks I can bump by accident as if I do trigger them by accident I need to spend some time undoing whatever it is they do (I’m looking at you Switch Camera and Photo Mode).
Does photo mode work during online races? Anyway the only one I’ve found a problem accidentally triggering in online races is rewind, which is why I have it disabled.
I guess you’ll just have to get used to the extra step of accessing the map through the menu, in exchange for the significant benefit of using manual gears.
As I said - it works fine. You can’t unintentionally hit LS Up while driving. Makes no sense. And if you somehow hit it, you can’t spam the chat cause it still requires the D-pad. Hell, deactivate Quick Chat and you’ll be alright, nothing of value will be lost.
On Default Layout 1 LB wasn’t bound to anything so I’ve used this on a custom layout for map activation, but I’m aware some use this for clutch - I’m manual w/o clutch.
As others have said, works a hell of a lot faster using a direct button mapping than thru the pause menu - invaluable in The Eliminator (I feel that should be all caps…)
