Hello Everyone.
I didn’t know if i should post this here or in the Paint Booth tread but none the less i have discovered a weird “glitch” in regards to the special Paints in FH4. A few weeks ago a friend showed me a cool video of someone making “flipped chrome” paints in Horizon 3 and i wanted to try and replicate this in Horizon 4. The method to do so means i have to apply the “Aluminium Polished” Paint in the Special Colours tab and tint it to the desired colour. Next i go to apply a square vinyl over the whole car and set the transparency to about 13% and set it to the other colour i want the car to become, giving me a really cool effect. However once i saved and left the House or festival the colour would become completely different.
This is what it looked like in the Castle (Also looked same in every house and festival i tested)
And this is what it looked like once i left.
I also tried other special paints as the base coat to similar results.
(I couldn’t figure out how to imbed the photos properly so i apologise for that)
It is absolutely broken.
The lighting in the booth is nothing like the lighting outside, what is silver flake inside comes out a disturbed white outside, any transparencies laid over the paint for effect become a solid colour outside.
The only time you can see the correct effect outside is from the drone or camera and ONLY if it is very sunny - which is rarer than the Capri FE.
It was perfect in FH3 so I know it can be better here.
Painting now annoys me to the core because of this.
Not a single paint from FH3 represents here correctly for me - my cars are now solid colours and dull.

You should try auctioning a car like that, on my XBox One S they change colour completely. I have sent tickets months ago. Although yours actually look OK compared to mine.
No, he shouldn’t. History would say this is a very, very bad idea.
I don’t understand that???

It’s not only the special paint. All paints look totally different in the paint booth (doesn’t matter which house or at the Horizon garage) than in the actual game world. I was trying to make Mercedes’ Solar Beam the other day and it took me like 30 attempts and tweaks to finally get a pleasant result as the color looked fine in the light of the paint booth but in-game it totally sucked and looked so different, I started to doubt my eye sight. In the workshop it was looking very accurate yellow metallic with a hint of orange in it, outside it was like obnoxious gold with no orange whatsoever. Also that two-tone metallic paint really looks like chrome quite fast, PG should rework the reflections of that a bit IMO.
I spend quite a bit of time making custom colors and “paint” effects and have not noticed this at all. For instance, I wanted to paint a car to match the color of the lavender (I think that’s what they are) fields. I took a screenshot of the field then went back to the festival and matched the paint. Went back out and took a picture with the car in the field and it came out exactly how it looked in the festival. I’ll edit this post with a pic when I can. Not sure why I’m not seeing this but it sounds infuriating

Paint finishes haven’t been updated since FH2. There are at least 2 specific finish types, a 1-tone and a 2-tone, that could be be classified as “metallic” and are only available as stock color options on various cars. Why we don’t have access to them, I don’t understand. The white on the Zonda roadster is the most recent example that comes to mind.
Also, in the special paints tab, I assume most people will use aluminum polished and similar paints more than any of the camo variants. It’s a waste of time to scroll past camo to reach them.
Speaking of aluminum polished… the outer lip finish on the Advan Super Advan Racing Ver. 2 fits perfectly between aluminum semigloss and aluminum polished… THAT FINISH SHOULD BE AVAILABLE IN THE PAINT MENU.
