Forza Photomode Details?

I did Nurburgring at night, in the Storm conditions, in an f-1 car. No lights aside from lightning… I made it to the turn just before the pits… literally 40 seconds in… and went right off the track. Tried again… lost a wheel on pit wall. tried again… in something with headlights… didn’t even finish 1 lap… Project cars just destroys the cars, for no apparent reason. Never once hit Rev Limit, or dropped a gear early… Transmission was done 30% around a dry lap.

It was super angry that I bought Pcars… So mad that I traded it in for Drive Club.

I don’t care what people say about me being a noob, Drive Club destroys Project CARS when it comes to fun, and OBLITERATES it when it comes to the photo mode. If you do nab a PS4, Drive Club is totally worth the PS+ version price of free… Its not the full game, and its not even the patched version. $30 +another $20 for the season pass gets you a bunch of cars, a TON of new events, weather, and more.

Hands Down, Drive club has the best photomode FEEL, of any game I have played. Final image quality is left up to the SHARE feature in the CONSOLE, which teeters on 720p upscaled to 1080p, which is not great, and makes all the photos look soft. Even MY Editing skills couldn’t save most of my shots, which were super crisp, just before making the snap. Project CARS, on PC has GREAT photo quality, but the camera is still locked on the car, and mildly allows you to pan around the car. No control over composition. Horrible final images on Console, FINE TUNE controls with limits from 1000 to -1000 give you great control, but literally take 5 minutes from max to minimum values. I put a shoe on my controller holding the stick to the left, and made a sandwich, ate it, made a cup of coffee, and came back to find it just reaching the minimum.

PGR series had a great Photo set up, Forza never disappointed, until the loss of BIGSHOTS (I WAS DEVASTATED), and Gran Turismo always tries, and I will give them credit, their games are hands down better than everything besides Forza, PGR and Drive Club.

My fingers are crossed that Forza 6 raises the bar… but Microsoft seem to be pushing the Share/Capture thing using the console rather than the software. If Forza 6 does this, it is another step backwards… And my time with Forza 6 will be short.

Hopefully I can take shots better than these…

Well… after playing the demo, and sitting through all the gorgeous environments, I am sold on the driving aspect of the game.

By far, this was the best driving game I have played to this point. The sudden Torque recovery, felt authentic, though the cars felt a bit Over-tuned for a demo.

I enjoyed the tuning tweaks making a difference to the car, even in the demo. I was fairly stoked to grab an S2000 from the start, paint it black, and throw down, since it seems to be my go to car.

With all the Assists turned off, I thoroughly enjoyed the demo. The track choices were perfect to showcase the changes weather and night make, though floodlights made it a bit easier, I still enjoyed the subtle effect the lack of Sun made. Rain, on one of my favorite courses, was extremely enjoyable.

If I were still a huge RACING fan, I would have had no problem pulling the trigger on Buying the Ultimate edition… In fact I ALMOST did it yesterday morning before the demo released… but my credit card on file had expired.

So I thought about what was missing, took this as a sign, to wait for the demo before I start building an opinion. Demo has me 50% sold. Car and track list adds another 20%.

I am stuck at 70%. For the simple reason, that I only know 70% of what I am in for.

I need information on USER GENERATED CONTENT. It is 60% of the game for me.

I know what you are thinking, “THAT’S BAD MATH BRO”, and you are wrong. The math is correct. Add 30% of what is missing, to 30% of what is not missing, and you end up with zero. But to fill in the gap, you need to cancel out to zero. Only with ZERO doubt, will I buy this game. They removed 70% of my doubts of the games ability to entertain. Now I need them to meet the other 30%.

My time that I spend in Forza is primarily focused on Photography. During an 8 minute race, I might take 3 pictures. Each one takes about 10 minutes of fiddling, dialing and adjusting exposure levels, then capturing 7 images of the same shot in different exposure levels, transferring them to my PC and verifying their quality.

During most of this, I will not touch my controller, and the photo mode will sit there on my TV, so if I need to re-shoot, it is still dialed in.

An 8 minute race, turned into a 30 minute photoshoot.

Chances are, I only made it 40 seconds into the race, before I saw an opportunity.

For me, it is nearly impossible to play a full race without the want to take a picture, or make an HDR, taking over.

The demo was great, and the lack of the photomode, allowed me to enjoy the driving aspect… But racing just isn’t the same for me these days.

I remember that shot. Oh the good ol days. I use to kill in photocomp and photoshop comps back in the day.

I remember MNK… those days were lots of fun, trying to nab Unicorns, and what not.

All those photoshop competitions really opened up a can of worms for me as well. and were highly enjoyable.

Fingers crossed, that it becomes a thing again.

good to see you lurking the boards, as well.

It turns out there’s a hidden Photo Mode in the demo, so have at it.

That’s cool and all, but I am not interested in the HIDDEN mode.

If the game uses that option to take photos, I will not buy it.

Plain and simple.

If Turn 10 think that simply allowing Photos to be handled by the hardware, I can pretend to enjoy not having FM6.

Until details are out, my money stays in my pocket.

The photos posted in the thread are screenshots because the demo doesn’t let you share (i.e. upload to forzamotorpsort.net) It IS the full Photomode, but the sharing is disabled. Why not download the demo and check it out?

I already did.

The demo tells me nothing about FINAL image quality, Image size, and if the game uses its own compression type or the SHARE capture (which is super low quality)

Will I be mad to miss out on Getting the game Early, definitely. Will I feel sad that Forza will no longer be interesting enough for me to warrant playing it daily for months, surely.

Will I miss dropping $100, uneducated, with no possibility to reclaim any lost funds via trade ins, yeah, probably not even a little.

I dumped The money on PCARS, and utterly wasted $45, when I got $22 to trade it in just 2 days later.

So I want to be an educated consumer, when it comes to dropping $100+tax, on a game that I get stuck with forever…

So far I only know about 70% of the game. Deadline is less than a week a way to pre-order, Pre-load, and play.

My days of throwing money at the screen, ended years ago. Details first, then I buy.

I did the above linked work-around.

I ran a challenge, parked where I wanted to, then I finished the lap. Found my replay, did the photo thingy, Found the Files via SmartGlass on my PC, dumped them into Lightroom to rename them to TIFF, then exported into Photomatix Pro.

Then uploaded this:

So far This method is obnoxious. So I won’t be doing any more.

IF we get clarification on OUTPUT Resolution, Turn 10, you have my $100.

With all the action the hidden photo mode was getting, I thought for certain we would get some info…

Well… I had $100 to burn…

I gave it a lot of thought, and pulled the trigger this morning.

Destiny updates tomorrow, with basically nothing for me to do in that game for a week. I figured this might be perfect timing to enjoy Forza in the meantime. With what I have been able to do with just the demo photo mode, and the image coming out above average, I figured that it can only get better.

$100 is a lot of money to waste on a game that you do not like, but I have enough confidence in the product, to know that Turn 10 won’t simply settle, if the players complain about some aspect of the game, being sub-par.

So in hindsight, if the UGC modes fail to entertain the masses, I will assume that Turn 10 will do what they always do, and tweak something to fit better.

Forza 5 was an early let down for some people… and Turn 10 were VERY quick to address those issues. I figure I won’t lose anything from enjoying the game for a little bit now, and then getting back into it around Christmas time.

Seems like decent enough logic to me. Fingers are now crossed that Photomode is exemplary. As I have allowed my emotions to cloud my thought processes, and simply said yes, to something that should have required more deliberation.

I think you obviously mean Driveclub on the other console?

The images are some kind of grey’d out but this gets compensated by the immense graphics quality the game has.

Here’s one of my shots:

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/436076625660027585/90F72F8CB14E918818FA0970E44618B6A64CA266/

That’s why I would like Turn10 to keep up the good graphics like it was in Forza Horizon 2.

This “other game” is not a censored word on this forum, you can say Driveclub

Yeah I know that we CAN say it, but I know how these boards work… If it is in the first post, people just argue about why this game is better than that game… Then Dragnet comes in and locks the thread… (Hi Dragnet) because it is off topic, and there is a place for being argumentative, (here’s a hint, It Rhymes with GameFaqs).

So I chose my words Carefully, to prevent a thread about something important to me, from being locked, WAY too early… After Thursday, I plan to update the OP with my review of the Photomode.

You won’t be disappointed with photomode Wonderpill.
