- Is Forza Motorsport going to rebrand?
- Is there going to be another studio?
I’m banking on “no” to both options.
Why?
Actually, it’s from layoffs.
I think there’s Gran Turismo fatigue and I think that depresses the entire genre across the board.
They also want horizon to work, so they are investing everything into that. Horizon will not only need to be launched, it’ll need to be bedded in.
Tides do change but it may take several years for that to happen.
The Forza Motorsport series could have just reset and start over from scratch is what I’m thinking right now. If they do it, here’s my things they need to have.
- Professional Sim racer to help with development.
- American - European racing leagues like F1, WRC, NASCAR and IndyCar.
- Ferrari Cover Car
- Fantasy Cars and Tracks
- Custom Track Editor
- Track Terrain like dirt or Gravel
- Custom Driver Suit Editor
They would need to drop the “Forza” name. The Forza Motorsport brand is associated with total failure now. A new FM game would be treated with deep suspicion if they tried to market one. Xbox is also deeply traumatised by the FM fiasco.
Successful motoring games are all about exploring now.
If, at launch, in addition to the old usuals, a new motorsports game had a large number of rare and new tracks that people could get their teeth into and explore, that has all the ingredients for a popular game. A track editor would amplify that again.
Obviously you’d want to execute the logistics of it. Get the physics right. All that. But that concept would be popular.
However none of that is in prospect for Xbox as everyone is just too damaged by the FM8 fiasco & if horizon 6 is a rip roaring success then that’ll take up most of their attention.
