Forza Horizon 5 can’t open because it is offline

I just started getting this popup when I start FH5:

“Forza Horizon 5 can’t open because it is offline. The storage device might be missing or disconnected.”

A web search led to a suggestion to change the Windows account sign-in options to uncheck “Use my sign-in to automatically finish setting up after an update”, followed by a reboot, but it had no effect. Other suggestions seem to think that changing the DNS settings would fix things up, but that sounds pretty unlikely to me.

I’d been downloading an update earlier, that stopped pretty early in the download process with an error. I don’t know about FH5’s update process, but I sort of expect that a download has to complete before the update is actually installed, so my FH5 image should not have been corrupted (or so I would like to think).

Anyone know how to resolve this?

Settings>Apps>FH5>Reset

Yeah, Pinkie, first I tried a repair: took about a millisecond for the checkmark to show up. But no improvement.

Then, just a few minutes ago I tried a reset. I’ve done it before and it just deleted my game data, and starting the game downloaded it again from the cloud.

This time, to my surprise, it looks like it completely deleted the game from my system. It’s completely gone from settings / apps, and while the icon is still there on the start menu, clicking it does exactly nothing.

With my slow internet, it will take me several days of download to reinstall it. I don’t know if I have the energy right now to start that all over again.

Yeah sorry… but only way and wasn’t 100% sure if it keeps doing the full delete step. Its MS way to fix it, maybe to hard to download/update single files.
