The GOAT of car data is the data itself which could be exposed by PGG to the community through APIs. Until then we’re stuck relying on people using spreadsheets to maintain this information as if it were the 1990s.
GM sold Saab to Spyker before both Saab and Spyker went under. Last time any vehicle with a Saab badge was made, it was an EV built on 9-3 Aero platform by NEVS, a Chinese-owned Swedish company. NEVS stopped using the Saab trademark about eight years ago to establish their own brand identity. As far as I know, they are the ones to hold at least the trademark for the 9-3 Aero, but they don’t hold the trademark to Saab as a whole or other Saab models. They weren’t even allowed to use the genuine Saab logo when their cars were called Saabs too. As a result, the license for Saab is stuck in licensing hell. Even if GM still owned the brand name, there’s too much red tape. Besides, if there wasn’t and GM did own the brand, then they’d be in the game just as Pontiac has been since Pontiac closed down.
Last I read, GM still has some controlling interest in the Saab “nameplate” and “logo”, hence the refusal to allow NEVS to use them outright. GM even blocked the sale to a Chinese company after 2011.
I did gave that a read. From what I gather though, licensing is still way up in the air. The part GM owns may not be enough to license it out entirely.
Is it just me who wants to see a Citroen sm a Lincoln continental and old rolls Royces.
Max’s excellent data above just proves to me the creative bankruptcy on certain manufacturers. This isn’t only a Forza issue, but Gran Turismo, NFS and many other “car games” have the same fog.
Many of the known brands from FM1 to today don’t move beyond 1 or 2 cars which is astounding considering everyone at Turn 10/PG are car enthusiasts and yet can’t delve into these brands history to churn out 2 or 3 normal cars to fill them out? Opel, Buick, Volvo, Oldsmobile, etc. Nothing in their history to add to the game? Also, many race cars (LMP2, LMH, Nascar, etc) from the Motorsport series are the same car but different livery, so the numbers are a little pumped in that sense.
The original ethos from all these car games was to take a normal car and “hook it up” to race. We’ve received plenty of newer cars, hyper, sports, etc., which are great. But it would be nice to fill out the games with more normal cars for many manufacturers. This isn’t an “either or” situation. Do both. Perhaps then we can finally have real “new-to-Forza” gems. The amount of content they could release based on certain manufacturers or even the cars themselves is just waiting to be picked. All it takes is some creativity. It also would give each car use/playtime rather than just collecting digital dust in everyone’s digital garage.
I’m gonna need a citation for this…
I agree. I think that they should go even further & add Russian & Czech cars into the game. Sure, add super & hyper cars as well please. I also support giving more obscure makes presence in the game as well.
Overall, I think that the inclusion of Chinese cars is very positive & I think that they should go even further by adding cars from Russia, Czechia & Malaysia regardless of what many gatekeepers that only want well established & Japanese brands in the game.
Except perhaps a few Alfa Romeos, the Lancia Delta Integrale and the Lancia Stratos there isn’t anything that I feel is missing.
I consider the people at PGG to be the “hEhe car have wheel and gO fast” type.
Thanks for the Graph- I think we have all been a little curious.
9 New car brands added
Hell yes? /Care less? / it’s ok . . .
Brabham - Hell Yes! - That Brabham is a beast - even stock.
Delorian - Care Less - if it can’t fly - I don’t need it
Extreme - Care Less - what??- 9 of these I think - sad
Lynk - Care less - but - it is a amazing grip car. . . just boring
NIO - It’s ok - insane grip - fun to drive
Schuppan - It’s OK - just like it!
Sierra - Hell Yes! - The little Sierra #23 - such a blast / grip / drag - an all around joy to drive.
Wuling - Care Less - I don’t care
Xpeng - Care Less. - i don’t care.
One thread said it best - I want to drive and experience exotic vehicles that I will never have the chance to do so in my life.
A Mini Van Wuling just doesn’t do that for me . .
Interesting note: - the 2 - Hell Yes! cars - were from the HW DLC . . . and 1 - It’s OK. . .
Your thoughts?
I mostly agree, though I personally find the Sierras to be too much of a handful to be of any fun, especially since the Drivatars that use them are especially broken. As for the Schuppan, I freaking love it. This was a car I thought would stuck in licensing oblivion for all eternity, so its appearance was a welcomed surprise.
Thanks, but no thanks.
Why not?
I just don’t want them. Different folks, different strokes.
I admit a Lada would be funny, but nothing more than a meme car. When it comes to the others, I’m just not a fan of many brand new cars no matter where they come from.
I definitely feel like fm4, fm7, and fh4 had the best car selections. Fm4 was great and then it was a bit lacking for years. Then fm7 and fh4 came around and I was like ‘ok, good things coming’ and then fh5 was a total let down. And almost a year and a half in its car selection still feels very underwhelming
Personally, I preferred FM4’s car list over even the current one. There are car’s in that game that we are likely to never see again.
That’s true, FM4 had a memorable and impressive car roster. That’s why I’d like to list cars from this game (as well as from FH1 and older FMs) in a thread analogical to this one, to highlight those (un)forgotten gems and perhaps give us a better chance of seeing them again in current Forza games - if they gain enough votes via Suggestions Hub.
After all Forza Horizon 5 already saw three such returning cars (DeLorean, 911 Sport Classic, Plymouth Barracuda '68) but there are still more than 200 models that could potentially come back…
Horizon 5’s car list should have filled in the holes Horizon 4’s car list had. Instead, Horizon 5’s car list was gutted even more, and that’s not even counting the missing Stellantis brands. My personal car wish list is one car shy of 160 vehicles, and 42 of them are cut cars from Horizon 4 (56 if I include Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and Fiat).
