Forza Horizon 3 after action report

Frankly I’ am disapointed with this game, I had far more fun playing through and grinding the xbox 360 version of Horizon 2 than playing this game, as the way this thing is rigged up its a beginners trap

where if you dont know what your doing your never gonna win, as a 4 wheel drive conversion is the only way to beat both AI and actual people in above average difficulty racing, without it, even if yourin the same class and have maxed out the cars PI you WILL loose to the AI and other people

no matter how good nor bad you are

as the 4 wheel drive system creates an enormous difference in acceleration between non 4 wheel, and proper 4 wheel, and mixed in with a gear box change, makes catching anyone with it impossible

just try with a vulcan in above average racing, with and without 4 wheel drive, the difference is last in the pack to infront of the pack with a 30 second lead around the rainforest circut

and online its the difference between last and fifth, and bar none this is the biggest problem with the game, its quantity over quality in everything it does, I would rather have less options
and less of a car rouster if it ment better racing

Next up is how hard it is to not get a car to understeer, as literally the only way to tune the toein is to break the suspension by lowering it to the floor, as history has proven that bar none
this is the worst thing you can do to a car, if anything more travel is the way to go

and often on my builds I opt for a rally suspension for that very reason, as both here and in real life that is the way to go, the real life example being the Viper T/A vs the last good looking corvette of this generation the C6 ZR1

where they literaly had to De stiffen the chasis to make it handle better.

and the anti roll bars no longer automatically effect the cars handling by increasing grip, they have to be tweaked to give more grip to the front by making them stiffer, or less to the front

and more often than not the only way I could get a car to not understeer was to go rally toe in 8 or 9 degree’s, and then adjust the tire pressure up to give it more responsiveness

usually always ending in a 32.00 with larger tires installed, although I refuse to go on beyond a certain point as it ruins the look of the cars, along with some of the tread paterns of the tires, if anything I just wish I could change the tire compound or the maker and keep it looking stock.

as that had to be done in addition to turning off everything save for ABS just simply so I dont plow into a parked bus like I was doing, as I had to take a daytona out as a test bed against the AI
just to figure that out after like 30 minutes of fiddling with the settings

and the real kicker is that you guys still havent learned to tell people that when doing the skyline drift challenge at surfers bay like you had with the sivlia in h2 to tell people to turn the traction
control off or its gonna take forever.

and the kicker was, its not a fault of the game engine, this was built in, as cars such as the Porche Caymen and the 918 that were directly converted from Forza horizon 2, along with the Carrera GT handle GREAT without making any serious mods to the cars, outside of a minor toe in adjustment of 1 to 2 degree’s that is, especially in the 2014 caymen’s sense

as you wanna know what understeer gets you, it this:

Brother cant drive, and 9 times out of 10 unless your with a set group of people in class C cars set up right for fun driving, all of the only matches outside of the playground games de evolve into that the second a high speed corner comes up

and their not punished for it as the 4 wheel drive takes care of the deficiency in their driving time that ramming into the wall at high speed did! as its automatic level 10 acceleration that gets bolted to any car that has it.

as the whole thing is a calamity of errors!n and not just here, the mutiplayer menu is just as bad

as you guys made the poor choice of dividing the multiplayer as follows

Vote after each event

Class A only

Class b

Class C

and you can never find anything in those classes BECAUSE of that, as its only going for things that are set into class C without a vote at the end, not someone PLAYING class C at this moment WITH a Vote at the end? see the problem

which means the only classes you can ever find are S1, S2 and A class because of the 4 wheel drive fallacy, as people like to WIN, making even the basic operation of the games multiplayer
faulty as hell

Meaning two out of the three elements of your game, racing and multiplayer faulty as hell, and the third is too, the car collecting and the elements involved

Lets start off with the big one, the auction house, it lacks the simple feature of an auto relist option after the auction is done, making car collecting and getting rid of cars a chore

especially a barn find, as literally the only way to get rid of it is to sell it, you can not manually get rid of it, something that needs to be changed ASAP

as frankly the mad max car without the bits is as pointless as they come, and REALLY disappointed me as I was really looking forward to it, and to boot you HAD the licence plate of THIS car from Back to MAX on it, WITHOUT THE BITS ON IT!!!

and the Ford Falcon NEEDS its custom bodywork to have any chance of mimicking the interceptor, as beyond that its just a simple ford falcon and it really ruins the illusion of having the interceptor in your garage

hence why you never see anyone RUNNING them

and I get the point you want people to give the barn finds a chance, I really do, but make it so theirs like a week cooldown period and then you can sell it to the mechanic if you dont want it

and get it back from him if you do

now the other thing is whoever is doing the engine swap programing on the game, needs to learn what a V10 sounds like, as that motor, the 8.4 liter belongs to the VIPER, NOT THE AUDI and it should sound like the 2013 viper does

not a vacuum cleaner!!! and why cant I modern engine swap a viper engine into the older models too?

as the view point out of that car is impossible to deal with, and man oh man can you imagine how fun it would be to have that motor in the iconic 1992 Dodge Viper RT/10 instead?

and most of the engine sounds are pretty pitiful vs forza horizon 2 on the xbox 360

like play it sometime and compaire the hemi sounds to that of what your using

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HN7ykkZQYY
it's just sad, I had to engine swap a cuda with the 6.8 just to make it sound like a cuda! which sounds like this by the way
so next time, please, please just go to nick and do some recording lol hell have him be your guy for the muscle car section please lol

also the sounds from Test Drive Overdrive by the way with the 360, which means whoever made that
conversion for you

worked on that game, as that’s not the only one that sounds like it did in that game, which makes
me wish you had hired Cryten from Red Dwarf to be the host instead of Weatley from Portal 2

PS2 Test Drive (Overdrive) 2002 Story mode - YouTube

and the worst part with the games faults is the stock rims are missing animations that make them
look like hell

literally theirs a dead stop one, that looks great, and then a super spinning pie plate one with no
middle ground and no detail to it once you get up to speed, speed being about 40 to 60 MPH while the other aftermarket rims do not have that

and it makes having the DB5 and the Mustang hard to look at because of those jarring rims that go from a defined rim to a undefined spinning mess

and while on Forza horizon 2 on the ONE it wasnt that bad, here its terrible, and I’m pretty sure the animations of the previous game on the xbox 360 never did that
as they were a direct carry over from forza horizon 1

especially if your not using a chrome finish on them, like I was to mimic the goldfinger car, which had an already worn look to them despite the car being brand new

worst part is the wire wheels of both the aston martin and the testarossa have better animations at night like someone mixed them up in the programing stage and no ones ever caught that

along with not noticing that mapping of the Firebird and the Boss 302 are screwed up and dont mirror properly between the left and the rigfht sides norwork right if you try and add features to them in the firebirds case, the 77’ trans am

as if you try and add silver striping to it with a Matt finish to try and mimic the Rockford Firebird as as soon as you leave the garage the striping is screwed up

and at different levels if you try and put a longtudally mounted stripe on the door and the fenders to mimic the trim his formula 400 Esprit lookalike that he had

and also the engine sounds on that are terrible as well compaired to the 360, its like night and day

and that about concludes this, I would say also you guys need to give us an option to remove that subscription thing with the music, like why not include BBC radio instead or Syrus next time like all everyone else uses in the real world?

and also give us the chance to choose what tracks play, like we could do in the need for speed games where literally you would go into the options menu to shut off certain tracks, and that’s the thing, theirs a flaw with everything in this game, and its not great by any means

but its not bad though, I dont feel like I wasted my time like fallout 4 but all of this, all of it, needs to be fixed and mended if forza horizon 3 and the forza horizon series is to stand any chance of longevity past this

and hire on people from the driver series to work on this please like you did with test drive overdrive if not so they can make another driver game under your banner

oh also that jogs my memory, your dodge charger has a glitch where the color shines through the grill, and you have to paint it black and then Vinyl wrap it the right color that you want to fix that

and your dodge challenger is also terrible and looks completely wrong compared to the geniune article

like someone Squished it, would be the way to put it , and also why NO shaker hood option? or the option to put on the bumper guards from the vanishing point car on it?

like you modeled it off of an innacurate model like EA did with Need for speed Hot pursuit 2 with their cars

and Blood stone, where they bought expensive or cheap 1/18 models and then copied them,

which explains why the GTS in that game always felt to look like that Burabago model I had of it,

as it was, it was modeled after it, along with the DB5 of that game looking like the terrible autoart model of it, AS IT WAS LOL

and also your countach is kinda off, way too flat like a poker deck

like would it kill you to model an LP400 or the LP400 S lower deck models and not the uglier latter 5000 S ones that had an inch higher cabin that ruined the look of the car?

oh and your anti aliasing on the cars skins if you try and add stripes, angled stripes, to mimic famous cars like the ones on the dirty marry crazy larry car

and the starsky and hutch car is terrible, like the one I made for the 70’ camaro, as literally it pixelates on close up, while on the others it never did that.

also would it kill you to add some of the actually Cool mustangs to the game, Like John Wick’s 69 Mach 1 428, the mach 1 from gone in 60 seconds along with a 67 Shelby GT500 or the 68 mustang? I mean you kinda all picked all of the crappy ones save for the King cobra

and also the window reflections for god sakes turn them down as I was getting a headache from driving the miura just based on how overdone the glare was from the chrome windshield wipers! and literally half of the cars i picked I had to get rid of because of that or some overdone oversized sticker on the sunvisors, such as with the ferrari F355 as atleast give us the option to get rid of those and tint the front windows to remove the glare, or better yet make that an option that we can adjust in the next game

as that cant be sparing the memory if you catch my drift, and I’d rather that goes to making my rims look better than blinding me on a cruise through the always sunny and the always gloss covered aulstralian outback

and we could use some other stock rim options too like the dog dish hubcaps the muscle cars and the Jag Mark 2 came with under inspector morse, along with some wing mirror options like he had on his, rather than the option to take the disc brake option off

plus a DB5 and the miura just look better with chrome wing mirrors on over the fenders, like I saw a miura with 65 mustang chrome door mirrors on the wheel arches, and it looked great.

also final note, why isnt the fast travel board rate tied into the cost of changing your car on the spot, why is it an automatic 10 K to change the car on the spot while this was free in the xbox 360 version of the previous game? it was faulty, yes, and it crashed the game, but still…

as to what brought this on, I’ve been playing this game for about 6 to 9 months on and off and finally decided to put it down after these issues finally just compounded in my frustration with this game, while even after all the grinding I am seriously tempted to go back to the 360 version of H2 just because of how much more fun that game was for me. and I figured I might as well do this while all of this is fresh before I truly switch over to something else.

Wow is that all I think you may have just missed something but not sure what.

True the game is nor perfect but what game ever is and odds of the game being changed to the degree you want will never happen.

I found the game to be enjoyable and quite well done with the tech available during production, Could things have been done better Most likely but at what cost,

If everything was perfect in the game we would have to fork over a lot more money to play. For the price the game is Good especially whe compared to other games of same price with much less content.

That’s one long, rambling treatise you wrote there. Brevity is the soul of wit my good man.

Holy wall of text, Batman!

I’m sorry, but I’m not the fastest racer around, and Above Average is the lowest difficulty I ever play on, and that only when I feel like goofing off and making things easy for myself. You might feel that AWD is necessary to beat the AI on this level, but I assure you it is not, as I regularly win on Expert or Pro while driving bone stock, un-tuned cars. Now it is true that the PI system is a bit unbalanced and this gives AWD an edge in multiplayer, but if you’re struggling against the Above Average AI, then you have other problems in multiplayer apart from the wonky PI system.

Most of the rest of your points are fair, but fall into the categories of wishlisting or really minor quibbles.

I think I had minor quibbles for breakfast.

You can soften anti-roll bars, but this makes the car unstable. I think cars in Forza understeer way to much. As a elite tuner its still hard to make a car turn.

[Mod Edit - OT rant removed - D]

What does your tuner level have to do with how easy or hard it is to tune a certain area of a car?

False. I can school AI at higher levels with cars that are built for handling. If you’re using race tires in A class, you’re losing because your car is not balanced, not because the system is flawed.

The system is indeed flawed because power is more relevant than handling, which is counter-intuitive compared to Forza Motorsport. A naturally aspirated car has numerous advantages to compensate for its deficit in power. Less torque means more traction, and throttle bodies further lower weight, leading to better control. However, the game favors power so it’s best to add turbos instead.

Nevertheless, the top guys online are the quickest because they know how to handle a car in Forza, which includes being able to control AWD V12 rockets with skinny tires. If the metagame had gone in the opposite direction, they’d school you too.

Moreover, you don’t require AWD to defeat Unbeatable AI at all. It’s harder with RWD, but very possible, especially if your car is near the top of its class in terms of ability rather than PI.

Understeer =/= lateral grip.

Why would you drift with TC on anyway?

R35 GT-R grip with ATTESA system is very close to the definition of “magical”. It won’t budge unless you manhandle it. Especially with TC.

Don’t add cams. Problem solved.

Engine swaps are distributed according to balance. Little reason to give a new Viper V10 to an old Viper when a V12 is better. That’s also why some Chevy cars don’t have the LS3 available either despite being modern.

Cuda doesn’t have a 6.8L. Only the 6.2L, which is a GM engine.

Gave up midway because the wall of text is just too freakin’ tall.

Props to anyone who made it through the entire OP…

I know I didn’t…

TL;DR

9th World wonder of the world: Great Wall of Forza Rants

I only got through the first part and I can assure you 4wd swaps are not necessary for any car at any difficulty. I rarely swap 4wd into any car and I’ve had few problems with winning in career mode or online.

Online is not necessarily related to 4wd swaps, but more to people who like to wreck/can’t drive.

The underlying point here is that the game is unbalanced and there is a “one correct choice”. I also have never built an awd V12 either and made it through the game but everything would’ve been easier with that silver bullet.

Just want to say that I completely agree with op’s points about AWD and the understeering. Ive noticed that you can just ram into wall sliding sideways instead of slowing down(and dealing w/ understeering) and win.

Do I get an achievement for reading Op’s entire post?
