It’s been confirmed by XBox devs that the OneX … as far as technical ability … will record gameplay at 60fps with 4K resolution and HDR. So the system itself is definitely capable … it’s up to the devs of the games to decide how they want to capture footage in their games.
More importantly, will we be getting more reference points and TV angles for the replays? As it is, it jitters pretty badly and you add that to the drone cams they keep using and it begins to look like an afterthought.
People don’t half come up with some convoluted and contrived justifications for a game’s shortcomings. Rather than just acknowledging that yes 60fps would be better, it is possible too, but it’s a DESIGN CHOICE to have it at 30fps.
CHOICE. Not necessity.
Why do you think the menus run at 30fps? That’s rhetorical. But it illustrates that it’s a CHOICE. (I will assume, perhaps naively, that there can’t be anyone who thinks that even a base Xbox One would lack the horsepower to provide a solid 60fps in the menus.)
Would anyone complain if the replays were 60 but occasionally dipped to 55?
Yet I’ve seen countless people complain about 30fps replays going back to Forza Motorsport 2.
They’re 30 because Turn 10 likes it that way, they think it looks better. End of story. Until you can change their minds on that, it’ll be staying at 30 no matter how powerful the hardware is.
Interesting fact: F1 2017 uses 30 fps for replays on Xbox One, but on Xbox One X replays will run at 60 fps. As for Forza I think it’s an optimization issue. The engine is fully optimized for 60 fps gameplay, when your camera always faces in the same direction: forward. It’s bound to your car at a given height so no matter where you go the engine can be optimized never to drop a frame. Now, replays use totally different cameras, often much higher, giving a better view of the track. Which means more cars, more scenery and more drawing distance. And it’s possible that the engine wouldn’t be able to handle that at a locked 60 fps purely because it’s not optimized for that. Take the Nürburgring for example, which is full of trees. Replay cameras show much more scenery objects than what you see during gameplay, thus it burdens the engine much more. So it’s possible that it’s easier to just lock replays at 30 fps instead of optimizing the engine, or probably even make compromises in the scenery.
What I hate the most about this is the clearly visible change. When you’re standing in the box and you can see it’s 30 fps, then start the race and suddenly it’s 60. When you finish you’re used to the buttery smooth movement then the game switches back to 30 and it’s quite underwhelming. But this is what we have to live with since almost all games use this method.
I was just assuming mate, well fm6 is just a porting while fm7 is not…
I mean consoles use dynamic settings while with a high end pc you can run it with max settings
You were right, I was wrong, my apologies! I just reinstalled Forza Apex out of curiosity and the replays are 60fps. So presumably Forza 7 will be the same, no reason it wouldn’t be.
So credit is due to Turn 10 for that. It looks a lot better imo.
(btw I have an i7 and only a 1080p monitor, so I don’t know what CPU would be needed to get 60fps replays at 4K)
FullNietzsche…
Much respect here! It is hard enough to admit being wrong but publically admit it, that is very hard. I dont always agree with your thoughts but I now have a lot more respect for you when we don’t.
I know microsoft is touting the most powerful console ever to everyone. But look at the specs. It has a pretty powerful GPU but basically the same aging laptop CPU. Scorpio was designed to run the same xbox one game rendered at 4k… thats it. No more and no less. For games to run higher frame rates, you will need a more powerful cpu. Scorpio is handicapped by being 100% backwards compatible with xbox one. This is why Destiny 2 runs at 30fps on the Scorpio and won’t see locked 60fps with games like Battlefront 2. Until a true next gen console comes out with a Ryzen processor, all you can hope with Scorpio is higher resolution versions of the same game.
Well xbox one x have a good hardware but it’s quite hard for it to run 4k softwares without any compromises, in this case dynamic graphic settings… As we all see in replays Graphics are better at the costs of 30 fps, that’s why i told pc could have unlocked fps in replays: Cause with better hardware a pc can.
You guys are joking, right? 30 fps in replays on the “Xbox One X”?
What about ALL that power they are bragging about?
Hope this “30 fps” only affect when playing in 4K and NOT in 1080p!
PC version version unlocked menus and replay at 60fps. We should expect this for the most powerful consol ever made right ? 1080/60fps for replay it’s OK …
30fps it’s like the game is constantly suffering … awful sensation…
Most powerful console ever - yes. But it’s still a $500 unit - only the price of a top graphics card. The consoles aren’t bound by performance, they’re bound by price. You can buy a 1S for $250 with a free game. These things are made incredibly cheaply.
30FPS isn’t the end of the world. Any number of games have only ever ran at 30 including the sister series.
Gran Turismo Sport has an option where you can run Replays at 1080p/60; considering how powerful the Xbox One X is you’d think that such an option would be available there too.
