Forza 7 hard crashing my computer

So, I started a race, and thought “I wanna see if my new 1050ti can handle the Ultra settings. I mean, Forza Horizon 4 can, so…let’s try.” So, I went in and set everything to ultra and…the game crashed. And by crash, I mean, it locked up so hard, I couldn’t even control+alt+delete. Restarted my computer, tried to load up the game and it froze solid again. Restarted computer and game and tried to switch the graphics down, but clicking on the Recommended setting switched everything to 4K for some reason (seriously, not everyone can run 4K. Why is that the “recommended” setting?) and the game immediately crashed. But…it saved those settings before it died, so now my game is stuck in 4K mode and every time I go near the graphics, it kills my computer. Maybe a little warning about “Changing the graphics of this game could crash your computer.” OR…you know how the graphics settings are on the title card in Forza Horizon 4? Why not do that for Forza 7? In fact, why not do that for ALL the PC Forza’s? Why hasn’t that been retro fitted to everything? Why did we get an experimental drag thing BEFORE the game was fully fixed? Priorities, people!

Forza Horizon 4 only runs in ultra on your card because it has dynamic settings that cause it to re-res on the fly, as well as lowering settings itself. Forza 7 Likely doesn’t do this and that is one of the reason for a crash.
Also 4k on a 1050ti? Yeah, that’s wishful thinking at best. Either that or you’re happy with A flipbook!
Try going into the store and resetting Forza 7 maybe? Not sure if that’s possible, don’t use the Windows store much on account of it being trash.
Or try going into your Forza 7 folder and delete your settings file, this will cause it to create a new one with default settings. You need to change permissions to access this folder.
Or try taking your 1050ti out of your system or disabling it in devices, then run Forza 7, it will revert to defaults. Then quit Forza 7, put card back in and run Forza 7 again and this should hopefully sort it out!

Nah. I think Forza Horizon 4 is just much better optimized than Forza 7, as Forza 7 is so broken…it broke my computer…in really an stupid way.

Yup. That’s about what it was doing, too. Again, I didn’t put it to 4K on purpose, I just clicked the “Recommended” settings and it put them to 4K. Why? I haven’t the foggiest idea.

I ended up doing most of those. I reset it and it didn’t fix it. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, but that didn’t fix it.

The clue as to what happened came from Forza Horizon 4. You see, I booted it up, and I like to leave the fps counter on screen because it’s really useful. Like, when I booted it up after Forza 7 killed itself and my computer a couple times. I wanted to see if it was ALSO experiencing issues, and…it kind of was. It didn’t flip anything to 4K, but the fps counter was jumping between about 500 and 150fps. “Ah,” I said to myself. “That means, for reason unknown to anyone, Forza 7 knocked out my graphics drivers. I guess, technically trying to run at 4K on a system that’s not capable of that will do that. OR that happened when I tried to switch the graphics settings. Either way, [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D] Forza 7?”

So, I uninstalled the drivers, took out the card, put it back in, reinstalled everything and…it’s fine now. But…not touching those graphics settings again. I’m just gonna force it to 30fps so it runs a bit smoother and…everything else…just gonna leave it alone.

What you using to monitor your FPS?

Forza 7 and Horizon 4 both have an fps counter you can turn on.

Yeah, i just wondered if you had anything else in there that’s known to cause issues like afterburner etc. All have an RTSS base and it fouls up because of it.

It did it again. It’s forgotten my graphics drivers. Once again, Forza Horizon 4 is fine, but Forza 7 WANTS to crash everything 'cause…reasons.

Edit: I haven’t touched any of the settings. Left everything the same. The games just decided one day that it doesn’t like my drivers. Didn’t even touch my graphics card until AFTER the issues started. Updated my drivers, Forza 7 is still broken. I haven’t gotten to the main menu 'cause it lags HARD after the title card. This stupid game is 100GB. I’ve installed it twice now, if I uninstall it again, it’s not coming back. I mean, why install something that just forgets my graphics card once a week. I mean, what a nice Christmas present: “We’ve detected hardware changes.” REALLY? AGAIN?
