Which one is more realistic. I feel that forza 7 has more grip level but less feedback from chassis or tires. Also the weight transfer feels dull. The tracks like nurburgring feel flat with like no bumps and car feedback compared to forza 6. Maybe its just me
You are going to find aspects from each Forza title that mimic realism differently. Thatâs much of the reason Forza has always been sim-cade. Not because itâs âArcadeyâ but because theyâve never been able to replicate more than one or two driving characteristics with equal levels of realism.
Edit: For example Iâve always felt FM3 had the most realistic suspension feedback but that system did not carry over into FM4 and beyond.
The biggest thing I notice with the physics is inconsistency. Overall, the cars certainly grip the road A LOT better in 7 than they did in 6. However, they arenât consistent and that can be very frustrating. On some turns, you get massive understeer and the car simply wonât come around. In the same car, other corners youâll notice insane turn-in. I prefer the the better turn-in, but Iâd still rather have the car just be consistent and let tuning come into play.
Certain bumps are an issue in 7 that werenât a problem at all in 6. A good example is the bend on the long straight at Old Lemans. Thereâs always been a bump there, but that bump can now wreak major havoc on your suspension. I built my favorite Lemans car up and ran a few laps there today in 7. In 6, I always used a D class Mercedes 300SL (canât stand the LB Camaro and refuse to drive it). The 2 games allow you to build and tune that particular Mercedes exactly the same. Every upgrade that fit under 400PI in 6, fits exactly the same in 7. Both builds have identical HP, weight, braking, etc. I say all this because its about as close to an apples to apples comparison as I can get. Its also the track/car combo I spent the most time with in 6 and can say for sure what the differences are.
In 6, that Mercedes would slide an awful lot throughout the entire track. For me, it was a blast, especially in the rain. You couldnât beat the top Camaros on dry ground with it (it has over 100 HP less after all), but you could compete with them. In the rain, it was faster than every Camaro except one on the leaderboards. The sliding forced you to be very precise with everything. It was almost like you were hanging on the edge of disaster for the entire length of the track. I was always worried about the next upcoming section because I knew what a mistake could do to me. It was awesome. When you nailed it, you could walk away feeling very good about your lap time and you had an adrenaline rush . In 7, the exact same car is extremely dull and boring. Its perfectly planted to the road at all times except for the bump I mentioned above. You donât notice the weight of the car at all and it turns in like a Honda Civic now. The rain doesnât slow it down at all. I ran 2 seconds faster than my leaderboard time in 6 on just my second lap with this car in 7. Its way too easy, except for that one bump⌠I think I ran a total of 4 laps with it, yawned, and moved on. I was almost never worried about any upcoming section as the car never once tested me except for that darn bumpâŚ
I think if youâre the type of player that had trouble controlling the car in 6, youâre going to love the physics in 7 overall. If youâre a more advanced player, turn all the assists off and really enjoy the challenge from all the sliding, youâre going to be bored to tears. They took the fun factor out of the game for me. The new physics are incredibly lifeless most of the time. You get that odd occurrence where the car wonât do something that you expect it to, or it reacts in a way it shouldnât, but thatâs not fun for me. When I tune a car, it has massive oversteer and is extremely hard to drive. The payoff is that its also super quick if you can control it. Thatâs gone for me in 7. Seems that no matter what I do to a tune, the car is planted, it understeers like crazy and just has no soul to it. I liked 6 a whole lot moreâŚ
^^I second his opinion. The cars are much easy to sort out if you go in hot to a corner. I too have noticed the odd corner when my car wonât turn or all the sudden has massive understeer. Odd but only time will tell how this affects the entire game. So far even with all its issues Iâm still playing, but I can see boredom kicking in soon.
I think the physics have been improved massively. I donât think the cars have more grip, but I do think that the drop off is less severe when you are understeering or oversteering. For example, in Forza 6 when you went past the peak friction of the front tires, you began to understeer massively straight away. In Forza 7, when you go past the peak of grip with the front tires, the understeer is more gradual which is more realistic. I also like that in Forza 7 the drop off is more noticeable due to youâre tire compound. If you go past the peak friction of youâre front tires on street compound, the understeer will be more gradual like I said but when you do it on race tire compound the understeer is more sharp and unforgiving which is nice. The same goes for oversteer. If you start sliding on street compound the car is more controllable and easier to catch and save but if you start sliding on race compound the car will snap more and thereâs less time to save it.
As for the argument that the chassis isnât as detailed physics wise in Forza 7, I just donât think thatâs accurate. Do not and Iâll repeat DO NOT upgrade the chassis. The moment you touch any of the chassis you just turn the car into a âgeneric forza carâ. Every upgrade you do just takes the characteristics of the carâs chassis away one by one. My advice is to test stock cars and see. A good example is the Aston Martin DB5 is a very good example. When driving that car you can feel the chassis flex and roll. You can feel the old. skittish brakes and the old tire compound and you can feel the extremely soft and outdated suspension and anti-roll bars. You can also really feel the terrible gearbox, driveline, clutch and diff it has too as thereâs very little pick up, acceleration or pull to it.
Or try the trophy trucks! Oh my god, you can feel the suspension travel and the big tires
I think the physics are definitely my favourite and when you get past the games other issues, the driving has been really enjoyable. Now I would love to try FM4 with the new controller to as I never felt fully in control with the 360 pad in order to fully confirm 7s physics being better. They are back on track after 2 titles with odd characteristics.
