Ford Transit SSV in cult classics

I can’t help but scratch my head every time I do a cult classics race and see the van included in here. The word “classics” suggests that the class consists of older classic cars, but the Transit is from 2011. It looks kind of out of place among a field of cars from the 1960s and 1970s.

Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Can a vehicle from 2011 be considered a classic already? Or is it too early?

Anyone got a possible explanation for this? The only reason I could think of is that there was no other place to put the van in.

I know what you mean, I am confused every time I see it, too. But I also think that it matches no other class, maybe they should have placed it in Offroad, but there it does not really fit, too.

The version in the game is from 2011, but the Ford Transit itself has been around much longer and as a model line is considered a classic - with a cult following one might even add. Hence, the inclusion in Cult Classics. In reality, taking a look at the other categories it does not belong anywhere else either…

They probably had nowhere else to put it. Theres a few that get me thinking, for example the F12 I would have put in Modern Supercars, and I would have put the Mazdaspeed 3 in “Super hot hatch” since it has 260+ HP. But that’s just me lol

Conversely, one could put the old Bel Air or Impala into American Racers…

I think with Cult Classics, we need to loosen up the literal term of classics to understand their thinking.

It’s just semantics. Think of it instead as “Cult Favorites.” The Transit van became an instant classic when Sabine Schmitt drove it around the Nurburgring for Top Gear in 2005: http://www.topgear.com/uk/videos/1845376209

Here in the UK any Transit is basically a ‘cult classic’ as soon as it is released so with Playground being based over here it’s not a surprising choice

There’s a few cars I’ve noticed that are (arguably) classified incorrectly… one that immediately pops into my head, the 1980 Renault R5 Turbo should be Classic Rally, not Retro Hot Hatch.

I always considered the transit as a pallet for making logos in paintshop…oh yeah…also something for the kiddies to use to interupt a good race…If I join an online race and see that theres a van racing I leave immeadiatly…Charles

Not everyone uses it for that though, same with the VW Type 2 in S2 class or the Raptor (but that can be used for offroading). Some may use it to get a drift score, I normally do a few races and get an idea of who to watch out for.

This isn’t really a request for fixing them, I am just wondering what you think about some of these cars:

The Mazdaspeed 3 going to Super hot Hatch

The Golf R32 and Clio V6 going to Retro Hot Hatch

The Chevrolet SS going to Super Saloons (its an Aussie car with a bigger engine, not really american)

The Fiesta going to Hot Hatch

The Alfa spyder going to sports cars

Also a convertibles category (with the TT, Z4, SLK55, Alfa QV and any other convertibles from Forza 5 (actually you might want to put in the Forza 4 ones too (although this is all hypothetical)) as there wasn’t really enough convertibles for me in 5 and well Horizon is more suited to open-top cruising

I agree about the Chevy SS and Fiesta. I think the R32 and Clio are in the super section as they have 250+hp, maybe it would have been too powerful for retro? with all the 80’s/90’s hatches at least lol

also sorry, i didn’t see this thread

gave you a nice homer simpson emoji as a gift

I would be neat to see Turn 10 / Playground Games make it so vehicles can be listed under multiple classification. I, too, was quite surprised to see the Transit in “cult classics” when I hosted an event a few months back. Perhaps a classification of “transport” vehicles could be a thing.

I love racing these things in lower class races.
