Forced Seasons with a compromised Winter once again

(shrugs) FH4’s winter for me is the one time I like how the driving physics work on roads. This applies to a lesser extent with rainy/wet roads in the other seasons. But dry roads, I prefer FH5’s physics.

All I’m asking for is an option when I go into solo mode (or a private server I’m hosting) that a pop up appears and asks what season I want to be in. Or a tab in the menus that lets me change it when driving solo or in a private server. Either solution works.

How is that impossible? It’s very possible.

I partly agree, but also would say that’s what happens when you try to cater to such a broad audience. Things get watered down one way or the other. Personally, I’d love true Motorsports handling, with fully transitioning weather, true customization, and overall narrower roads…but, for the majority of their target demographic (aka everyone at this point since it’s rated E and on game pass), that wouldn’t be accessible enough. It’s the compromises that happens when you’re a big company and investors are involved.

Did they mention anything about the Festival Playlist in this video beyond going back to the four proper seasons format?

It was mentioned. No details though.

Year round summer is what happens you cater to the rival heads and/or the casuals. Winter may not have been the perfect season for competition but it was my favorite and more fun than I anticipated. I put FH5 down after about 2500 hours when I put over 10K in Horizon 4

Man people really aren’t reading what I wrote, nor are they looking at the suggestion I posted.

Forced option of choosing certain seasons is gonna upset more people than just forcing winter

Ok, I might not be able to wrap my head around it completely, but I guess I can see how having a popup when choosing solo mode might bother people. I don’t understand how that bothers them more than having three quarters of the game they paid for locked off at all times, but fine, whatever.

But if it were just an option in an obscure, out-of-the-way part of the menu, whose going to be upset about that? I mean, yeah, sure, you can probably find one person who will be for some unhinged reason, you can find that for just about anything, but why are we blocking players from three quarters of the game just to cater to that one person?

The open matchmade world needs to be on a schedule, I get that. Why do we have to be in seasonal jail still while playing solo? I don’t mind the extra work to fish through the menus to experience the season I want at my convenience (and yes, that includes winter).

I do believe that, even if you’re on “solo mode” the game still have drivatar, so you’re more on something who look like a solo mode, but in fact, it’s still linked to online at some extend.

So the first step will be to have a real solo mode, for making these options possible to custom, and maybe that need much more work than just giving options to players as you mentioned.

That’s the problem with some games who have multiplayer coded in their DNA

FH5 has a true offline mode. It even has it’s own playlist.

Honestly I don’t see how the drivatar system would be impacted in any way, but regardless, it seems like an extremely solvable problem.

I would also point out that FH started out as a single player with multiplayer option game. It wasn’t until FH4 that multiplayer got hamfisted on everyone, and they’ve never properly supported the idea with in client tools or proper anti-cheat. Not that I care for them too, would much prefer a return to single player first mentality then to fully commit to the Fortnitification horror show we’ve been subjected to.

Solo mode (offline) is available in FH6 just like FH4 & FH5. They can give us the option easily to select season and weather like in custom races.

Drivatars in Open world in solo mode didn’t change from previous installments as seen in many videos since January 22nd.

I’m certainly not saying it’s impossible but is it likely? If it wasn’t there at the start of development it may never come. I screamed from the mountain tops about crossplay disable and it never got added but somehow that option ended up in the PS5 version. Maybe just maybe we can choose just to play against ONLY other console players in FH6

Disabling cross play is a system level setting you can activate in your Xbox consoles settings so it’s always been available, you just didn’t know where to look

I am most likely in a crazy minority, but I loved seasons in FH4 and I loved winter, together with that DLC for FH3 that everyone hates :joy: The only issue I’ve got is length. Seasons in Assassin’s Creed Shadows aka a season change every couple of hours may be too much but something like a change every 2-3 days instead of the whole week could be a vast improvement. The playlists may stay for a whole week but changing seasons during a playlist would be also fun - you could try the same challenges under different driving circumstances. Of course, it’s not gonna happen, just thinking out loud. Still, winter in Japan may be something very fun - especially when roads will be clean and only the dirt roads and specific areas may be full of snow. I really hope they’ve learnt to balance it out from FH4 over seasoning and FH5 under seasoning, they’re openly stating they did so - I hope it’s true and actually fun.

You clearly did not read the OP nor the suggestion linked there.

I did, I just did not respond directly to the OP’s statements but gave my loose opinion about the matter instead. It’s still within the topic. The OP just does not like winter-locked playlists, which is ok - the same as liking winter itself and thinking aloud about what may be the more fundamental issue - like too long seasons, and what may be the potential solutions, which would also solve the OP’s issues - like leaving the week-long playlist but making the seasons switch through it.

You know, it’s not required by law to answer only directly to the statements in someone’s post - as long as the answer/comment is topic related and brings something interesting in. If you don’t like it, great, move on or add your own opinion/digression/interesting input that you like and find relevant. This clearly is, it’s just not directly answering the OP’s message, which is ok.

Cheers and everything best.

But I do like winter playlists.

What I don’t like is having 3 seasons locked away at all times.

I like the seasonal rotation for the open match made open world server. What I don’t get is why we can’t choose what season we are in when playing solo or in a private session.

What I also hate is the fact that because we are put in seasonal jail in the open world, they have to make winter this horrible compromise instead of throwing some really harsh conditions at us.

I LOVED Blizzard Mountain. They threw some properly harsh winter at us there. And it was made all the better because I could go there when I wanted and leave when I wanted.

But then I got a bunch of people coming into the thread acting like I’m attacking winter. I’m trying to defend it here! I’m trying to prevent it from being a mere cosmetic change!

In FH4 snow tires were the perfect choice for the winter season, you had loads of grip and could drive very well even in the deep snow with those fitted, especially if you used a car that suited the conditions, like 4wd rally type cars or similar cars.
Was dissapointed that in FH5 they seemed to have nerfed the traction of snow tires alot actually, the car slides around alot more with snow tires in FH5 than it did in FH4.
Hope they sort this out for FH6, and make snow tires op in the winter once again.
My favorite thing to do in winter in FH4, apart driving on the frozen lakes, was to use an upgraded Unimog and beat the Tankpool racing trucks on dirty and snowy tracks, since the Unimog could install snow tires in FH4, but not Tankpool truck, so they would lose alot of time on the snowy or dirty sections

Technically, it could be possible. If there is a test track like in Horizon 5, they could let a player adjust weather for that test track session. Then, they’d need to add the option of inviting other players into your test track session. No random players, no events, no time attack/forzathon/arcade/whatever, but you get an open world with player-controlled weather, which is what OP is asking for.

Would they want to do it? Doubt it. It would require either harder server sharding, which may increase upkeep costs, or the ability for players to host their own servers, which nowadays is a big no-no, since everyone is afraid of private servers for pirated game copies popping up.

I do not actually remember how good snow tires were in 4, but just in case, do remember that the rally track on top of the volcano uses dirt physics, not snow physics, even when it’s covered with snow.
