FM6 Career - Assists, Drivatars, and Mods, Oh my!

Great to know, this is great information Professor, take another monocle out of petty-cash!

I understand now, I only played with them on the demo on my fifth and sixth play through, like you, I was sort of luke warm of the idea of Mods, but I am more encouraged after my limited demo experience and your post of details. I was just not certain if on the those crew mods if removed if they vanished of if you could store them back in the deck again - thanks for that update!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer all our questions!

Rereading, this little bit has me interested. We’re allowed to do the races in whatever class we want? Or is it, perhaps, you have to do it in [letter] class first, then you have the option to do it again in a higher and/or lower class? Any class, within a certain range (ie C-A class)?

I know you’re UK-based, and as I type this it’s nearly midnight for you, so I could perhaps have the answer before you read this, but all in good fun.

Regardless, all this info is good for someone who just purposely on accident bought the game. That’s what I’m telling myself to justify my personal woes.

Nice write up Hieronymus1967.

It’s some good information and I can’t wait to jump in and give it a go - as soon as I purchase the game that is.

From my experience the showcase events really helped keep things fresh.

Thanks Hiero for the informative review!

Okay, here are some answers for you guys.

I’ve spent 32+ hours driving. That number is lower than I feared it might be so I’m feeling pretty good about it. I’m 17% complete on Stories of Motorsport and 90% complete on Showcases.

You cannot cancel out of a series once started, you will need to complete the 4 - 6 races before moving to another series, or you can back out and start a new series but lose the progress made on the one you are leaving.

The race lineup, from what I can see, remains the same for each series regardless of which car class/type you select.

I’ve had approximately a half dozen friends’ drivatars in each race, a half dozen or so names I think I recognize and the remainder are random. The friends drivatars all start with me in the middle or so of the pack. Dan’s gamertag you’ll have to find on your own, I won’t be the one to rat him out (Not sure if my friends list is visible, he’s on there if it is).

I have just absolutely destroyed a couple random drivatars while racing with sim damage, they looked terribly put out for a moment and then motored away without a care in the world. I told you these came to win.

Series are restricted to a particular set of cars by class/type. For instance, Volume 1. Super Street has six possible groups to choose from: Compact Sport Coupe, Hot Hatchbacks, Ultimate Spocom, Japanese Street Kings, Rally Day Heroes and Classic Compact. You pick one of those groups to run the first series, Challenger Series, and then pick a car from the group elegible and go race. For the next two seris in that volume, Club Circuit Series and U.S. Tour, you could select the same group and a different car from that group or a different group entirely.

Jfiler - Agreed, they break things up nicely and make things interesting.

I think that’s all the questions answered, hopefully you will all be answering them yourselves in a few hours.

Hi Hiero,
Lots of great info, however …(LOL)

Theres nothing about painting such as the cans & cant’s of what we can do.
Could you please give us some info on that aspect.

Cheers.

Roll on 14:01!

Hi Hiero, Loads of good info. so thankyou kindly for that!
I’m always tussling with your drivatar right off the grid, you usually sit right behind me and then the first lap is a battle with your drivatar, as well as others. But yours freaks me the most as it feels like you’ve followed me from the forums to keep an eye on me! lol
Some of the conversations we’ve had in the past make me think you’re keeping me on the straight and narrow! lol
But with 24 cars on the track hopefullly i’ll be able to leave you in the middle of a pile up i’ve accidentally caused due to my poor brake control! lol

Question, how different is it with more cars, is there anything about your driving tactics you’ve specifically changed?

Keep up the always great work dude! (Yes i know you wince when i call you dude, it’s mostly why i do it! lol)

If I get time, perhaps I’ll try to do a similar sort of article for painting. I just wanted to cover single-player career with this one.

Be glad it’s me and not Dragnet following you.

The field is obviously much larger at 24 cars now and you’ll start at 14th on the grid unless you use a mod to move that position up or back. If you’re fast off the mark, you can typically gain a couple quick positions before turn one but take it easy through the turn (the drivatars will be generally quite orderly in getting around one with maybe a little minor contact) and then start working on position as the field slowly spreads out. I try to race clean and drive progressively better laps, improving each split and overtaking where I can do so safely.

I will tell you a secret, while the drivatars are much improved, there’s one area they are just a little weak. In later races, when the lap counts are higher or even multiclass races, the drivatars have a tendency to let themselves get caught behind lap traffic. Backmarkers have proven to be my mother’s milk on more than one ocassion, allowing me to draw up and overtake at the last minute for a podium finish.

Thanks Hiero i’ll look foward to reading that when you get time.

Regarding Assists, which ones are required to be disabled in order to quality for the Hardcore leaderboards? Specifically, can I access that board with Cosmetic damage?
