As Bow657 stated above, you’ll need to buy the LaFerrari pack to be able to purchase it in-game.
if it has a little dlc logo in the top right of the car thumbnail it means you have to download it
So apologies in advance for the noobish questions folks, but I’m new to the Forza series and can’t seem to find an answer online (and the forum seems to be having some hiccups as I can’t use the search function).
Anyways, onto my queries;
1). Each car has a Class Letter and 3 Digit Number above its stats; I understand the Class Letter (each car is in a specific class), but what do the numbers mean exactly? For example, the Aston Matin Vanquish is Class A with a number of 650 I believe, but the same car (this time in the form of a Collectors Edition model), has a number of 700.
What does that mean? Is the Collectors Edition model of the Vanquish ‘better’ than the regular model? Indeed, the regular model of the car is 0.1 faster in speed than the Collectors Edition version of the car (and has the same stats for handling etc), but the regular model has a 650 stat yet the Collectors Edition model has a 700.
2). As I understand (excluding the Car Pass), there are 3 DLC packs; Day One Edition Car Pack, Limited Edition Car Pack and VIP Car Pack. If I purchase the VIP Pass online (i.e. from the MS Store), will I get access to all 3 of these DLC packs?
Thanks for any help in advance
Hi,
-
Yes, the number effectively means better. It takes into account upgrades, modifications etc to the stock car. Going too high moves the cars into the next class. So, in your example, if you added an upgrade to your 700 A-Class Vanquish and pushed it over 700 it would become S-Class.

I’m pretty sure (correct me anyone if I’m wrong) that you will only get VIP car pack for VIP Pass if bought separately. Day One was just that - for preorder games bought on Day One of the Xbox One. Limited Edition are only for Limited Edition bought games.
Hope this helps.
SUTORE you are correct.
I have the VIP pass and Car pass, that gives you access to all the cars in the game. I believe the day one and limited edition cars are only tuned and painted versions of cars that available in the game. I do recommend the VIP pass if you plan on playing the game a lot it really help you build your CR’s quicker. Yes is was $20 but I think it was well spent and I have already played this game way more then I thought I would.
As far as the car ranking A700 etc goes if you are just starting out I suggest you look in the tuning section of the forums and then follow some of them in the game. That way you can get the tune and it will upgrade your car for you. The tune really changes the way the game plays.
Steel book Ltd edition came with Day One, VIP cars & Ltd edition cars, tokens & double reward for ranking up.
I believe if you buy VIP now you get VIP cars and the double reward for ranking up only. No Day ones or Ltd edition cars.
You can tune the normal cars yourself and I’m sure you could get the Ltd edition livery from storefront
- The number is called the PI = Performance Index. Essentially, as you add upgrades to your car, it increases the PI. Most races are PI based/limited, so the goal is to build up the car so that it increases its performance (which could mean its cornering ability, top end speed, acceleration, braking, etc.) The class is the initial designation, an arbitrary assignment that Turn10 makes to categorize the cars. It wouldn’t be fair to race a class C against a class A, for example. You can build a class out of the its current class also, for example people can swap out the engine and drive (go from RWD to AWD) and impact the PI enough to put it in another class. It is up to the player to determine if that class change will effectively enable the car to race in that class.
The Limited Edition version cars have a custom livery (paint job) and get pre-tuned by Turn10 to the top of the class. This is supposed to have the effect of offering the Limited Edition owners with cars ready to race (pre-tuned) out of the box. Typically, I find all of the special cars (Day One & Limited Edition, specifically) to be a bit limited and worse than the standard version of car with my upgrades and tune because some of the upgrades that were used cannot be undone. Notably, there is an achievement to reach a certain speed with the McLaren P1 but the Day One version can’t reach that speed, while the default-spec one can.
- Day One and Limited Edition DLC both came in the Limited Edition FM5. There was a Day One FM5 bonus for pre-ordering, but I don’t think you can buy it separately. You also can’t buy the Limited Edition from the Marketplace or xboxlive.com. The VIP Membership can be bought and the VIP cars will become available for purchase from the game once you buy it. There is also a Season Pass package that gives you all 6 of the monthly DLCs as they become available, and that can also be bought from the Marketplace.
If you buy the VIP Membership from the Marketplace/xboxlive.com, you will only get the VIP DLC cars and nothing else.
Good point made there. Although I said a higher number (PI number) effectively makes the car better, sometimes an upgrade will raise the PI but if done incorrectly or without upgrading other parts (such as upgrading the engine but not the handling) it will make the car slower or harder to control.
A good tune is your friend and will bring your laptimes down.
The VIP Pass that is available on the Xbox Marketplace grants you VIP status in-game and will allow you VIP benefits such as 70,000 credits awarded to you for each driver level achieved. The VIP Pass also grants you access to the VIP pack, but not to the other two car packs (Day One DLC, Limited Edition).
As for the number next to the class indicator (Or class letter), that’s the Performance Index number. The Performance Index number is the game’s way of telling you how fast a car is, and it’s attached letter dictates which class it’s most competitive with. To put it generally, the higher it is, the faster or ‘better’ the car is. People like to maximise their car’s abilities in each class when building up their vehicles in Forza by taking the Performance Index number to the limit in each class. So when you look at say the LE Vanquish, of which has a Performance Index number (Or ‘PI’ for short) of 700. It means it’s ‘optimised’ for A Class, as the maximum PI allowed for A Class is 700 and no higher, and is essentially at the fastest it can possibly go in this class according to the game. Any higher and it’ll probably go into S Class, a much faster class of which the game now finds it more appropriate for this Vanquish to be in, as it doesn’t match the slower pace of A Class cars anymore and deserves to compete with cars more similar in performance to this car.
Hope this clears it up a bit for you.
If you can afford it, always preorder the limited edition of Forza games. They always sell out, they’re difficult to find after the release day, and the T10 team make it worth the extra cash with bonus cars, double rewards, etc. It’s always worth it. Just preorder to avoid disappointment
Also, my wife thinks I’m crazy because I bought the LTE, Day One and Standard editions of Forza 5. All three are in separate retail boxes with unique artwork. The Day One edition was NOT just a preorder bonus, although it’s hard to find if you didn’t preorder. I collect, and I’m a little obsessive
The Day One edition has the Day One DLC pack.
The LTE has has Limited Car Pack, Day One pack, VIP pack and VIP status.
Standard just has the game.
I only opened the LTE pack, the other two are still shrinkwrapped.
Yes and no. If your intention is to top it out in it’s current class, the CE version of the car is ‘better’ than the regular version of the car, but the regular version of the car upgraded they way you want it upgraded is ‘better’ than the CE version and will probably have more ability to fine tune. If you intend to up-class your car (taking the example car to S800 instead of A700 for example), then it could go either way as far as which is ‘better’.
Hello. I’ve bought the Limited Edition of Forza 5. I used the code and I gained access to some VIP races and also had 1250 coins but I don’t see the cars packs offered. I’m not sure if the code only unlocks the possibility to buy them faster, or if they have to appear instantly in my garage, or even if I have to reach a specific level to see them…
You have to buy them with in-game credits I’m afraid. They’re in the dealership. Tends to be how all Forza DLC works.
+1
Yep, if you are new to Forza there is no way you would know this just from reading the box/advertising. I made the same assumption that you would have all the bonus cars in your garage, but in fact the LE just gives you access to all the cars and you need to “purchase” them with credits or tokens to have them in your garage.
Thanks for the help guys.
So, I went ahead and purchased the A700 Collectors Edition version of the Aston Martin Vanquish, and boy, what a huge mistake. The car - at least for me, a newbie to Forza - is horrible to drive. It has incredibly slow speed (I get passed by numerous cars in straights), you have to press the brakes all the way in to have any effect and more importantly, its all round handing is awful. I’m playing with a Wheel (TX 458), and currently have my wheel rotation at 270, so perhaps that needs changing.
It was such a shock driving the Vanquish; for the past week I’ve been driving the Lotus E21 and my god, is that car just amazing; perfect braking and handling etc (though a bit slow at times).
Hey,
My girlfriend brought me an Xbox One + Forza 5 pack for Christmas. Good girl.
Is there a way I can purchase the 787B (my favourite car EVER)? Or do I have to buy the LE game?
Cheers
You must get VIP by either buying it or acquiring it a different way. On top of that you will need to either buy tokens or accumulate 1,250,000 (I think that’s the right amount) credits to purchase the 787B
Thanks. Do people sell the VIP codes or something like that? Seems a shame to have to go buy a game I already have for just one car.
VIP is available through the XBone “store” once you are signed in to Xbox Live. Go to Forza and the “add ons.”
