First time playing online in the "Leagues" placed directly in Elite

Hi all,

I thought i’d give Leagues a go last night. I read that they have structured the leagues so that you can find that “perfect race”. I was under the impression that i’d most likely start in the lowest league then work my way up moving between the divisions based on winning races etc.

So after some success ( 3 wins 2 top 3’d and 6th) in the grassroots ghost league on a controller, i thought i’d try my luck with my steering wheel setup. After loading up and going online i was placed in the Elite league. - some what of a jump.

I’m all for a challenge but i was vastly outclassed and didn’t really enjoy the race i had time for.

My question is, do i have to complete a number of races, finishing towards the back of the pack to be placed in a lower league where i might be some what more competitive?

Yes, if you lose a few races you’ll get demoted again. If there’s a league you haven’t raced in yet then keep an eye on your Division on that one while playing the other because it will update as soon as you get demoted, whereas any league you’ve raced in won’t update until the new week rolls over on Sunday.

Of course, if you’re faster than everyone in the league you get demoted to you’ll just get promoted back again.

I am thinking you just want to get into a league where you are better than everyone else. You may or may not be fairly good but if you are winning every race I would say you are in the wrong division. I realize that going from a controller to a wheel is a big step. If you want to get in a lower division so you can be competitive with your wheel that’s fine. But if your switching between the two and going to use your controller to win races in a lower division, I don’t think that would be right. Sounds like your better than grassroots any how.

Yes, that makes sense. I’ll keep at it and most likely be dropped down into a more appropriate league for my current skill on the wheel. Yes, i agree, there’s a huger difference between the controller and wheel. I just thought it was strange to be placed in the 2nd highest league level just by plugging a wheel after less than 10 online races.

Ezrae, I’d like to be in a league / lobby whereby i’m competitive and enjoy the racing. At the end of the day it’s a game which i want to enjoy. I certainly don’t want to race and win every time by beating slower drivers etc. Like i said, i like a challenge and want to try improve my skills.

I didn’t want to offend you in any way. I just wanted to know where you were coming from. I know that there are people out there that will take any advantage they can. I never wanted to get into the wheel side of it for that very reason. I would be in the elite division and would just make a mess out of every race. My apologies if I offended you.

Do promotions happen while a league is still in progress? I was playing in the S class ghost league last week and was in grassroots for whatever reason, and I pretty much did not lose a single race I played in but was never promoted. Meanwhile I have never played in the R class ghost league yet I’m placed in the Pinnacle section.

TrueSkill, which is the rating system that’s used in the leagues, works like most other rating systems in that it allows large rating jumps in the early stages. So if you haven’t raced leagues that much but you’re reasonably fast so you win a bunch of races, you’ll be promoted quickly. I, on the other hand, raced a whole lot while not being that great of a driver, and slowly progressed through the Professional and Elite divisions into Pinnacle.

No, you won’t be promoted/demoted while the league is in progress, so if you start a league week in Pinnacle, you’ll stay in that division for that league. The next one you start might be different, though.

Same thing happened to me. Promoted straight to elite but just wasn’t competitive, getting midfield finishes at best. Found myself back down in professional and (apart from crashers, whiners and xenophobes) I am thoroughly enjoying it. Best part about it is that it has made me a better driver (in my opinion anyway!) and have mostly been getting podium finishes this week and I’ll hopefully get to test myself at elite level again. To answer the OPs question, just keep playing and you’ll end up in a league that suits you.

I’ve been in pinnacle since day 1. With a limited history against easy competition , it will make you look faster than you are. Placing you in higher leagues. If your were placed in Grassroots, it would suggest you had no history at all.

Is this new account? you should been placed in higher league base off your lap times from rivals or normal MP.
