I am thinking of buying the new Forza but I have never played any Forza before since I never owned either 360 nor One. I have been able to test the Apex beta though and of course I like it as any other car game but I am experiencing weird physics in that game like very slow steering and weird effects of wheelspin from start (like if I have spun out) where I can spin uncontrollably in circles. I am now wondering if these physics are the same in FH2 (and will likely be in FH3)? Is maybe my keyboard at fault for the slow steering and the lack of car tuning the fault for uncontrollable starts? Or am I just a bad driver haha?
Horizon is much more forgiving than Motorsport. Horizon is the a mixture of Forza Sim but set in Open World with much relaxed physics. It is more of an arcade racer than a sim racer like standard Forza Motorsports. If you like something like Need For Speed Underground games or liked something like the old Midnight Club you will really enjoy Forza Horizon series.
I primarily play the Horizon games, I have only played the standard FM in small bits.
In motorsport the tires take time to heat up and have very little traction at the start of the race. If you have damage on they also wear out and overheat so you’ll lose traction as that happens.
The Horizon series is not like this, a skilled racer still has an advantage over an unskilled racer but like the x GrndZero x said it’s much more forgiving, I rarely walk away from a Horizon multiplayer race infuriated whereas with Motorsport it’s almost always how I feel. In motorsport you get taken out on the last lap and you can kiss your good finishing position goodbye.
I used to play Motorsport religiously through Forza 5 but now I play Horizon 2 almost exclusively. Put in 50 hours or so in Forza 6 and decided I didn’t enjoy it anymore (btw I think the 24 person races i why it’s worse than Forza 5)
You’re English is better than a lot of native English typists!!
It’s quite possible that you’re steering problems are down to using a keyboard. Racing games really need a controller (or more) to get the best driving out of them. The big problem with keyboards is that your key press is either on or off. There is no middle ground with degrees of pressure like with controllers. When you are stationery in a car and you press accelerate on a keyboard you are effectively putting your accelerator pedal immediately to the floor. It’s no wonder that you spin out.
If you’re going to get FH3 I would highly recommend moving away from keyboard controls. Depending on your finances: Xbox 360 controllers work, Xbox One controllers are even better (from what I read) and if you’re really into it then an Xbox One Elite controller is the thing. After that you get into steering wheel territory but that’s only for the most serious and dedicated.
I didn’t play FH2 either but FH1 was great fun and I expect FH3 to be that - multiplied. Essentially that’s what makes Horizon stand out to me from other racers - it’s just immense fun.
forza motorsport is not only less forgiving than forza horizon but it is best played on a wheel setup or controller. The throttle control on a game like motorsport which is a sim-cade (cross of arcade and simulator) and the peddle with the steering wheel offers a larger degree of variation with the throttle and the same can be said for the controller by comparison to the keyboard. Forza Horizon series is more arcade style in general.
Yeah! As Wideload explained I can see how keyboard might be one of the reasons why I feel that Apex would not be something for me. However I can get my hands on a Xbox 360 controller from my brother so I will have to try it out later today!
Thanks for your response!
Oh, I did not know that the tires would change depending climate/hot tires or not in this game. Maybe should have figured since its a sim game
Yes I know what you mean! I always force quit Apex everytime after a couple of races, in particular on Brands Hatch during rain. Running no ABS and TCS you can kiss first turn good bye haha
Thanks for your response!
Haha thanks
Thank you for the explanation. I understand now why my steering problems are as it is, I will steal my brothers extra xbox 360 controller and try it out later today. I do have a Logitech Formula GP racing wheel. It is very old as you probably understand from looking at google images etc. Although, do you think it will work on FH3? It has no shifter and clutch but that could easily be remapped some how if it the game supports the wheel.
What is the key difference between the 360, xbox one and elite controller? In terms of able to help me controll the car easier.
Thanks again.
What is Throttle control? I can only use W A and D, space and S are out the window sadly. Jokes aside, thanks for your input on the topic!
Haha how so?
Edit: Sorry for repeating your quotation of my first post, I rarely use forums so I dont know exactly how to remove it
As this is new to you, you might want to use these settings for your controller. You find them in the Apex controls menu. Set all of the deadzone settings to 0 for inside and 100 for outside, except for steering which I left at 5 for inside. It makes a big difference. I’m only on an X360 controller and that will do you fine unless you get more serious about racing. If it’s a wireless controller you might need an adapter, if it’s wired (like mine) you can simply plug and play.
I have no idea if it will work, I’ve never used a wheel. Easiest way to know is to look for up-to-date drivers and try it out.
I’m not sure on the difference between an X360 and X1 controller (if there is any) but the Elite controller has programmable controls, extra/removable switches underneath, greater emphasis on applying subtle movements etc. It’s just all round a better controller but you might find it pricey.
Throttle control isn’t a setting or anything, it’s basically what we’ve been saying. It’s those degrees inbetween none and full. A controllers trigger gives you those degrees so you can press it slightly and move along slowly, press it more and you’ll speed up slightly and so on. Keys don’t have that.
After you’ve quoted someone and the text is in the reply box, simply select the bits you don’t want and remove/delete it as you would any text file. You might want to ,ake sure you get the quotes brackets with it. Give it a go, you can always cancel if you go wrong.
