There are good lobbies. You’ll meet like-minded people eventually, and when you do, it’s worth it. When you get into a good lobby, you’ll lose all track of time, and you’ll end your evening (or, if you stay up really late, begin your morning) with a pack of new friends you can be matched up with later.
You’re not alone in your frustration, but it’s a matter of luck. There are horrible lobbies and there are outstanding lobbies. If you find yourself in a bad one, it’s best to back out and look for another. It’s inconvenient, but, again, worth it.
And if you’d like to try no-collisions online racing, Turn 10 (in response to arguments similar to yours) created a no-collisions B class lobby. It’s not the X class you’re looking for, but you can at least see if no-collisions racing is more in line with what you’d like.
If it is, then come back here and tell us. The no-collisions lobby has been a source of debate, but the more people who report positive experiences, the more likely it is we’ll see a response from T10 (I think - can’t speak for them, but they’re definitely listening, so it’s worth a try).
Don’t get discouraged, and don’t let this experience stop you. Even logging in at a different time of day can make a difference. Sometimes you’ll get unlucky and hit a lobby during the half hour when a bunch of ten year olds across a country log in to wreck each other before school. I’m serious. These things happen. I think it adds an interesting color to the game, but if it weren’t for all the good lobbies I’ve found, I’d tire of it very quickly.
It’s also probably best to avoid higher class lobbies. If you thought you were really good in career you’ll be humbled pretty quick once you start racing online. Been there! I recomend starting with slower classes and working your way up. Pay attention to who the faster drivers are and give them extra room or they’ll kick you. As you get faster you’ll find you leave the crashers behind after the 1st turn never to be seen again…then the fast drivers kick them.
The most important tip I can give you: Use your mic! It will help you make friends and friends will help protect you from crashers. If you don’t talk you’re just a tree falling in the forest.
It’s clowns like that which are why I rarely play online. It’s a race, I’m not going to just roll over and give it to you, and so what if we touch a little… I try to race clean, but things happen when you’re side by side. It would be one thing if I torpedo someone going into a turn, but for someone to lose their ish and go 12 year old CoD griefer on me just because I have the inside line and I refuse to concede, that’s their problem not mine. Some people need to get over themselves.
Aye, some ppl seem to forget this is a GAME. Granted, I’ve lost my temper with wreckers, verbal abusers, and the folks you describe here a couple of times, but I just remind myself of this simple fact and I calm right down. Everyone should do this when they’re in danger of “losing their ish” (great phraseology, btw, love it).
How’s he supposed to know that? And if I understood him correctly, it wasn’t that he had a bad experience because it was X class, but because he expected X class racers to hold themselves to a higher standard.
Regardless, having identified his problem (in your opinion), what would you suggest he do? Which class would you recommend?
The reason I picked X-class is because I bought the E21(My save was lost, so I’m building myself back up) with the reward Cr we got a couple of days ago and I like F1 racing. Neither is the reason me being a bad driver. I’m by no means a pro, but I run TCS/STM off and Manual w/Clutch. The very few times I’m left untouched I usually end up 1st - 5th.
Appreciate all the tips and encouraging words! Will definitely check out the B class event with “no collision”.
typically, in Forza you see the best racing in the lower to mid classes. the A-class hoppers seem to be the best balance of fast car and fast driver. most of what you see in X-class will be people that choose to drive their fastest cars all the time, which masks issues in driving due to the higher levels of grip and power that these cars have. A class and below requires you to push the car to the limit to be faster than your competitors.
sure, there will still be wreckers, but i’ve had plenty of good races in the A-class rooms. Use your microphone and talk to your fellow racers, announce your moves so they know to give you space, and give them space when they do the same to you, etc and you will foster some excellent races. There was once race around Spa where i was side-by-side with someone for the better part of half a lap… neither of us came in first that race, but it was one of the best races i’ve had on FM5.
Every online racing game will have that, i also wish Horizon had no collisions in the public lobbies rather than custom races, some feel it turns into a rivals lap but personally i rarely race collision on due to too many wreckers. At least with no collisions on people can win on skill and not on your wrecking ability lol
