old driver 561.09
i have been fighting this same issue for 2 months now. it isnāt an NVIDIA thing at all, it is a game issue.
5800x / 7900xtx / 4x8gb ddr4 @3600 / 1tb 980pro
i have gone as far as formatting my c drive, reinstalling windows, installed the latest AMD driver (driver only), removed paints and tunes from my profile, etc ā¦
after my last windows install on 1.14.25, i had about 2 weeks of FH5 working as normal. all other games & benchmarks worked fine.
when fh5 would crash out, and blackscreen hang - after manually powering down and restarting, my gpu driver would be totally hosed, requiring a DDU and reinstall ⦠i have gone back to the august driver from last year, and still happening after another win11 reinstall.
this HAS to be a game file or profile cache corrupting ā¦
i tried running forzacrashlogger this morning after the last hard crash (didnāt even make it out of the load screen to the garage ⦠) and it found no logs at all - which is more troubling imo
I find that by using DLSS helps the matter, almost certain it is a memory leak that has been present from day 1.
Iām using mostly ultra settings with ray tracing off and dlss quality with a 4080S / 7800x3d, before this I was on a 5800x3d so this should rule hardware restrictions out.
magnificent game just a shame they carnāt be bothered to fix it !!!
4080 super here and started playing the game a week ago. was getting crashes every half hour or so and was about to give up. Roll back your nvidia driver to vers. 561.09 I havent had a crash since and its been a couple days now!!!
for reference i play with everything maxed at 4k, including raytracing and havent had a single stutter or crash since rolling back my drivers.
hope this helps someone cheers!
Also adding on that Iāve been having this issue too. Been playing FH5 for a week since putting together a new PC and have crashes every 40 min-1 hour or so of gameplay (the game can idle in the pause menu for hours just fine). Have not tried the Nvidia driver rollback fix yet because I donāt think thatās right for a proper fix, so currently running GeForce Game Ready Driver version 572.70. Build specs are an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX 4070 Super, 32GB RAM with XMP mode enabled (tried toggling XMP mode off and the game still crashes), Windows 10 Home, game downloaded and launched through Steam, 4TB M.2 drive with still 3.21TB free space reported in Windows. Only the game crashes out, not Windows or any other applications I have running in the background (Microsoft Edge, Spotify, Discord). The crash event in the Event Viewer shows exception code 0x0000005 for ForzaHorizon5.exe, version 1.681.890.0.
If I run out of patience before a real fix comes I might just try the Nvidia driver rollback solution and post an update if that even works for me, since it looks like even that isnāt a guaranteed fix.
I just got FH5 in the Steam sales and itās randomly closing on the latest NVIDIA drivers (572.70).
It makes no difference what Iām doing. Iāve had it happen mid race, in the menus, and when Iām away from my PC and itās just idle. Turning off ray tracing, limiting FPS, and other fixes suggested here are not working.
Same problem, still crashing on latest nvidia drivers (572.83) with a 4070 super. I wonāt rollback drivers, I play many other games and I want the forced dlss 4.
I got the same problem, it worked fine on my old rig with rtx 2060 super and i7 3770k but when i started on a new one with 4070 ti super and 7800x3d it started crashing somewhere between 30 mins and one hour, couldnāt fix this in 20 hours of gameplay on steam but yesterday updated to nvidiaās 572.83 driver, rebooted pc and set the game to support win 8 mode, and got almost 7 hours of clean gameplay until it crashed again, iāll try again today and will update the post later
so i played for another 2 hours and it seems to be a lot more stable now, iād recommend trying to use compatability with windows 8 for anyone who is also struggling with this issue
didnt work, actually it made even worse because the game crashed couple of moments later after i started it - which never happened so fast before..
EDIT: actually after couple of failed starts with crashes or so, now i managed to start it well and played without any crashes for couple of hours now. So i guess @Daxerot thank you mate!
it does crash even for win10 users, i would be one of them. compatibility to win8 setting actually might worked wonders for this, not sure if it totally fixed the issue but for sure it made a rare event.
totally off topic but i think i saw your nickname somewhere in the game. arent you uploading some tunes for the cars? i think im using one or two of yours lol
I just filed this Ticket:
"Ever since S44 debacle and even after applying the hotfix, my game has been crashing to desktop in races, in freeform, in screen transitions. I HAVE ALREADY TRIED all of the recommendations for this problem listed in the Forum and past reports of this issue. THERE HAVE BEEN NO CHANGES TO MY PC, components, software, OS. All apps and OS are up to date as are all drivers.
Also since todayās new Season, the game is unstable, with convoy error messages, server issues. Rebooted 5 times today alone, 1gb internet connection FH4 running FINE! PLEASE FIX THIS SERIES OF UNPLAYABLE ERRORS. and PLEASE donāt send me down a rabbit hole. Iām an Tech guy and used to work at Microsoft. This is a Forza error, not my PC/Rig.
did you try using compatible with windows 8 setting? it made much better for me for now at least. didnt test with co-op racing and online racing in general yet tho, which caused the most often crashes before. will check that part soon. but with the rest of the gameplay this setting actually really helped. for now.
RTX3090/5950X/Win10 Pro. I just rolled back to this driver after so many crashes. This really seems to help. However I donāt think theyāre fixing this, since FH5 is rumored to be end-of-life
