FH4 Final Update (Supposedly)

I have completed Super 7 High Stakes four times now. First times rewards were good, finished with 150,000 cr and a Backstage pass. The next three goes the rewards were all the same:-
2,000 cr
5,000 cr
10,000 cr
Wheelspin
30,000 cr
50,000 cr
Super Wheelspin

Challenges seen random and do not increase in difficulty, which i would have expected.

No sign yet of the cars that they referred to on Forza Monthly yet being available as rewards - Ferrari FFX K and LaFerrari?

My first runthrough included an FXX K and a VW Type 2 FE, so there are definitely cars there.

While you knew that End of Life was going to come soon at this point, I’m surprised they just dropped that car and said “That’s it, we’re done”. Would have been better to give people a few weeks to get sorted, or announce at the beginning of the final season or something. Why? Dunno, just seems like the cooler move.

Did they mention how the voting is going to go for Backstage Pass? I’m assuming that will continue to get padded out as there are still many, many cars that are not available anywhere else.

For me, the last car coming into the game is start of life not end of life. I would have enjoyed the game a lot more if all cars were available on day 1, giving a stable meta for competitive play. New cars becoming available all the time, and having to do chores to get them, was just annoying. But then they’d also have needed to address other issues with competitive play like the awful rivals workflow, ramming in ranked, not being able to choose ranked with no freeroam rush etc. I realise now that the game just isn’t for me, it’s about car collecting not competing. I’m much happier playing a game where you have everything you need to be competitive when you first run the game up, and you can focus on developing your skill.

If I had all the cars on day one I would probably only played the game for about 8 months.

You are the target audience for the game, then. There are other games where you don’t need to collect anything to be competitive that people have been playing for many years, e.g. >5 years in the case of Rocket League, >20 years in the case of Age of Empires II.

In rocket League you win matches, trophies, and leagues. In Forza you win races, cars, wheelspins, and money. Never played Age Of Empires, it sounds like you win wars, perhaps land, perhaps commodities.

The difference is in RL and AoE you don’t acquire anything that helps you to win. You have everything you need to be competitive right from the start, so they’re all about the competitive experience. In FH, you have a constant need to do things to obtain new cars that differ in performance, and it’s that aspect I find annoying. Another example of an extremely popular game where you don’t have to unlock anything to be competitive is CSGO.

It’s fine, no need to defend FH, they can choose their target audience and cater for it if they want. I’ve just come to understand that I’m not a member of it. When the annoyance of having to constantly do chores to obtain new cars is finally out of the way, and I might be able to actually enjoy the game after investing all that time, it seems it’s the end of the game’s life from the developers’ point of view. It’s just not what I’m looking for in a game.

That’s exactly what I was saying in the other thread, it’s just busywork to give you something to ‘do’, the equivalent of a job where you dig holes in the ground and then fill them in again. Actually a lot of jobs IRL are exactly like that, although not so overtly. But it amounts to the same thing.

Anyway it’s interesting that the corporations always talk about being ‘green’ yet here we all are, sat in front of electricity-guzzling machines doing pointless stuff which in the case of Forza is often not even enjoyable for its own sake, it’s just to ‘earn’ another arbitrarily locked car we’ll probably hardly use once we get it.

Games are supposed to be like that. A game is just fun with a reward that isn’t real… like Monopoly. All you are saying is that you don’t like games.

No, you just don’t understand the point I’m making, that’s all.

Spending time doing something you enjoy doing in the game for its own sake is not busywork. I can spend hours driving the same course in rivals, because I enjoy doing it and get satisfaction from improving.

What I don’t enjoy is having to do arbitrary tasks like perform ten near misses, or do these PR stunts again that you’ve already done before. Doing tasks you wouldn’t otherwise do, just to get wheelspins so you might win another car or more ‘credits’ etc. That isn’t how games used to be. I think Call of Duty started that trend didn’t it? (A game I played a lot of, but because I was heavily into first person shooters for the gameplay, not because of the dopamine rush of ‘levelling up’ and unlocking things which was just a chore.)

I am on PC, not a new player of steam version, it seems the update didn’t fix the bug that it will CTD wherever entering a speed zone or done with a drift zone.
I do hope that it’s nothing related to a corrupted save. I have to drive carefully (as usual) to get rid of any speed zone or drift zone.

Well according their in game last News item, send by the Forza Community Team, it looks like no new items will come to FH4. Hopefully they will take that last statement seriously. ( Bug fixing, stability improvements and more…) ]

I worked out I still have about 25 of the hard to find cars to get so without using the AH that will keep me going for a while.

I have nearly all of the cars, but have not used the vast majority of them. In fact, I probably use less than a dozen of them.

After seeing this

180 days until new series … it was fun, see you in FH5 then

This may have been a mistake. Mine currently says 27 days… Maybe that update earlier today changed it.

Got the VUHL earlier on and haven’t been on the game since, I’m considering uninstalling it altogether and just bumbling around different racing games until FH5 arrives.

No custom championships has become an even more nonsensical decision with this, I’ve done and seen everything in the SP + the MP is too much waiting around and staring at screens to be worth bothering with on a regular basis for me.

I’ve played FM2 + 3 + 4 + 6 + 7 and all the Horizons and this will be the first ever game I won’t look back fondly on, even the terrible 360 version of Horizon 2 gave me some good memories with the playground games online.

FH4 though? I’m probably going to remember the horrible, horrible loading screen music + ridiculously dressed characters doing silly dances before races more than anything else.

I hate all that dancing around like a moron before a race as well. And the music just leaves me cold. It’s modern music for a specific age group (probably dumb hipsters and stupid kids with backward baseball caps on!!).

I wished the map was bigger though. The super cars and hyper cars were too fast for the roads. Should have integrated the Fortune Island map with it. FH3 did feel bigger I have to admit.

Anyway FH5 is meant to be coming to the Xbox One X as well so YAAAYYYY!!!
