Trial shenanigans.

Race 1: I will admit to an unforced error, lap 2, turn one, I braked a little too late, and ran into the back of a teammate, running him into the wall. I’ll cop to that. I backed off apologetically, and we both recovered, but he seemed to be in a retaliatory mood, and kept bumping into me. Despite this, the team pulled off a decisive win. One AI came in first, then most, if not all of Blue team. More than enough points to win race 1.

Race 2 was not pretty. We struggled through most of it. Toward the end, myself and another player had to resort to bullying a couple of AI cars on the final leg to squeak out enough points. But we won.

That’s two races down, right? We won. It should be over.

But apparently the game had other plans. Somehow, we ended up doing Race 3. I grabbed a capture to review later, and sure enough, we won Race 2. No doubt about it.

Anyway, race 3, apparently? I managed to secure second place, but just couldn’t pass the lead AI. Another couple of players managed to score points, but the last two brought up the rear. one so badly, he almost got lapped. We lost.

But we won 2 races, right? Best of 3. We should be done.

No. We lost. Red team won.

So my second attempt, we won both races decisively. So that’s over with. But what the heck, Game!?

My biggest bugbear with online racing.
Nobody gets that you can make a mistake and instead of just getting on with it and racing, they constantly harass you throughout the events.

Or that you get pushed into them by someone behind yourself. Happened to me today. And then are pushed into the next wall for payback of what you didn’t do?

Well… you want realistic racing? Right? Ever race in real life? Ever hear of Tony Stewart? How about Dale Earnhardt? Buddy Baker? Michael Andretti? Scott Dixon?

Nobody knows it’s an unintentional bump until the checked flag drops and the pits start jumping.

Isn’t one of the quick chat options “sorry”?

Not gonna lie, yesterday I was the “paybacker”.
As usual as every week I was doing Trial session. Did like 20+ runs. Some lobbies were better, some worse.
Rage quitted in 2 Trials. In the 1st one threre was some bumping, but was lucky enough to work enough space to don’t be bothered in first track (some AI slowing was needed), but in second race there was just a big pile up after that long straight and it looked like there was no attempt to brake by anyone. And 2nd time (IIRC it was right after the previous one or in the next one) in fitst race there was a pile up on 1st corner + another pile up near the “player house corner”. And it was just enough for me.
As for “paybacks”. Did that to 2 players. Can’t remember if that was before or after my rage quitting. Was there some chain reaction bumping involved? Maybe. Would like to describe the situation to clear my name a little, but can’t really remember what happened exactly.
I will just say that I’m running pink  badge for a reason

But is there any way to heal the Trial?
Being ghosted at the start like in horizon open? But then it would not help with 2nd race (that 90 degree corner after long straight)
Wall collision penalty? I guess some people would not finish Trial ever
Qualifications? Maybe something like that - to unlock Trial you need to do monthly rivals first and players would be grouped (and difficulty would be set) by set times ?
Or maybe some single player Driving School with licenses or something?

I don’t think it was basic one.
Anyway would like to have option to get rid of “active” quick chat and just have 4 set by me just like I had it in FH4: now that is racing (to praise fellow racer), nice driving (in sarcastic tone), sorry, bye

Try ram a Drivatar. There’s your solution.

Ano how would it help with slow/bad driving players?
I don’t have problem with Trial itself no matter how ridiculous it would be. I have problem with low class teammates.
Although AI is sometimes very “wavy”.

EDIT: or are you being sarcastic again? Sometimes I can’t tell.

One of the best solutions to make ramming less of an issue without ghosting players is to minimize the impact of ramming by using whatever is being used currently for Drivatars which are extremely difficult to ram.

To prevent people quiting MP modes like the trial the best solution is to prevent them from queuing from any MP mode for 5 mins, then for 30 mins if they quit again within a short period.

To match equally skilled players together you need a proper match making system.

To make players unhappy you do none of the above.

Blanket ghosting is a terrible but easy solution to bad driving.Make it more targeted,ie only if hit is from rear or side.

Have you ever played the original GRID from 2008?

Especially in open wheel classes people would stand still (or even go backwards) at the start for the driver(s) behind them to crash into their car, either disabling the car hitting them outright or at least severely damaging it, while hardly noticing anything themselves.

No i haven’t played Grid, and i hadn’t thought my idea through  Yeah, races would just become one long series of brake-checks.

yeah, and for some reason, I didn’t have it loaded. Haven’t needed it since FH4. I’ll probably fix that before next week, if I think of it.

In my admittedly limited experience, the Trial hasn’t been that bad lately. The AI has been nerfed significantly, so they’re less of a problem. And I’ve been lucky enough to get some reasonably well behaved teammates. With a few notable exceptions. Even when I’ve had one or two griefers who actively try to sabotage the team, I’ve seen wins. More often than not, I’ve gotten it on the first attempt, and only 2 races.

The ramming was a bit excessive to say the least & RWD makes it worse. I was able to run the trial about 5 minutes after the season changed this week, but it was still ugly. First race I was bumped out of a checkpoint early & finished in the back. Second race I was rammed off the first bridge into the ravine, so I finished last.
I’m getting pretty tired of the trial overall & really only run it to knock out the 10 points toward the latest car. Once I have that, I’m pretty much done for the season playlist. Although I did forget to complete the championship to unlock last week’s song so I guess that one won’t make to the Mix unfortunately. Luckily not one of my favorites anyway

Yes it is - but only if you use it. I hate quickchat, never used it, never will…

Mixed grid to spread everyone out may help. Having everyone lumped in back of grid is huge part of issue.
Every other row?
Maybe, ghost at first corner only?
First tight corner is the place I use to exit or stay. Pretty good predictor.

Didn’t even realize you could turn it off until someone pointed it out, so that was the first thing I did the next time I logged in. SOOOO nice racing without having to constantly see those annoying messages of “Coming through!” & “Lookout!” Now if we could disable hearing other’s horns!

It’s actually still turned on - every time I uncheck it, it turns itself back on.
Just don’t bother to use it myself but just put up with and ignore all the gloating and abusive comments that pop up. We all know “Look Out” actually means get out. Who are they to tell me not to bother trying ?
