I swear there was a post where someone was saying “if I’ve car with rally tires on, I’m ready for dirt racing” or something along that line, but can’t find it now. I assume it was related with this week Trial.
Anyway, this encouraged me to do some tests - comparison between rally and offroad tires.
I guess most people know about this, but I wanted to check how big that gap will be
Used 1987 Pontiac Firebird, so I could use that new widebody.
Picked San Juan scramble, cause 1/3 of it is tarmac.
All tunes are AWD + widebody + full aero + racing weight.
Results:
B700 rally tires M - 1:19.4

B700 (+36KM, -3kg) offroad tires M - 1:17.9
B700 offroad tires A - 1:18.0
B700 offroad tires autodrive - 1:26.0
A800 rally tires M - 1:11.5
A800 rally tires A - 1:11.4

A800 (+88KM, +8kg) offroad tires M - 1:09.4
A800 offroad tires A - 1:09.8
Summary:
If you want to go dirt racing → pick offroad tires.
Like you can see, converting to offroad tires saved 20PI and 17PI without any performance loss. And that was on a track with 1/3 tarmac sector where you need grip. On track with more dirt gap would be bigger. Offroad tires just bite into the dirt.
As for Pontiac - It is better car with widebody. Could have better front end grip.
PS. As I was playing around with selfdriving car, I thought “why not?”
1st race went pretty well (maybe despite achieved time, that is about 20sec off from “normal” time). With autosteering ON it is hard to overtake, so I just pressed gas and let AI do AI things. In 2nd it worked a bit worse, was stuck behind 3rd-4th AI too long.
I shared an A class dirt tune for the Judge. I don’t know if it will be setting any top rivals times, but I liked the way it felt to drive on the dirt.
I made some road tunes for it as well, but I liked it better on the dirt.
Yeah… I’ve won open races with full self driving. That wasn’t really the plan. It was just in my “grinding for Horizon Open level 1000 phase”, but yeah… it’s possible.
I imagine good responsiveness would be ideal in that situation. The racing line constantly has braking and then acceleration, so being able to adapt to that seems like it’d be key.
The Judge drifts like a boss with the 7.4L and drift parts for an A class option to some of the JDM or Lotus if the restriction comes up. I got few new pb’s with it.
Also like it more on dirt vs street in A class. Just pulled a 1.15.5 at Mangrove and smooth and comparable to the Falcon XB and Pontiac FB SD
I had a smooth trial in @x_ShadowsBane_x ’s RTR. 1st place and 2nd place (Katya got away from us in the second race). Solid team, with only one player dragging behind, but everyone else up in front.
I used the BAC Mono for the indy championship. The second race was actually Descansar in co-op, and. Donkevoort took first.
This has been an epic week for livery engagement for me. I’ve had individual downloads higher, but in terms of total downloads it’s probably a record for me. Leaders for me included the BAC Mono (Queen Machine), the Red White and blue X-bow, the Demon Hellcats, and the 2020 Shelby Modern Art. But even the lower downloaded cars were up above 10, with the exception of the Deberti. I’m probably gonna have to write off the time I spent on that Deberti logo unless another Deberti happens to come along that’s popular. (Or maybe I need to come up with a better design that incorporates that vinyl group.) I’m pleased that the Queen Machine was a hit. A lot of time got dumped into that crest vinyl group. Overall for the week it was existing vinyl groups paying dividends for the most part, with the exception of the new triangle rear quarter panel for the “Modern Art” series.
Thanks for the support as always. I used the RTR as well and smoked the competition in the 1st race despite starting last on the grid, would have been disappointed if I didn’t with how much practice I got on the course while testing all of the modern muscle cars during the week.
I was down in the pack in the 2nd race after having to deal with many corner bombs, but we got the job done.
I’m glad to hear you’re getting great engagement this season. I grabbed all of your liveries. Great stuff!
Engagement for my tunes has been way down this season thus far compared to last season where I got an epic 6500 downloads.
Oh well, I’ll take the good with the bad and keep chugging along.
For anyone not familiar with this car, I would highly recommend checking it out. The ‘91 Jaguar Sport XJR-15 is an amazing car for its time & has to have one of the best sounding engines in the game. Been setting some times on various tracks with it & it’s a real pleasure to drive.
Another awful trial experience this week. Got rammed out of a checkpoint by another player in both the first and second races, got rammed again at the end of the first race and lost a position to the same rammer, got rammed so hard another time it launched my vehicle into the air and none of the other players brought vehicles with dirt tires so it was just carnage and my team lost in the end. Not fun, I wish the devs would stop coercing people to play MP games with the playlist since most of us just don’t really want to be there.
And on my second attempt we were so close to winning the second race and being done with this nonsense except for one player who dropped a position just before the end and eas in dead last and didn’t have the good sense to quit.
At least they quit in the final race so we were finally able to win this stupid event despite the best efforts of the cheating runaway AI I had to ram out of a corner to get past.
Since it has nearly all of the meta swaps a B700 Dirt build with the centrifugal LS3 is as strong as with every other Classic Muscle. It can also be build as A800 Drift tires powerbuild with the Funco engine.
I kept mine as B700 road build with Vintage Race tires, no aero and stock engine. It’s okay, the Belvedere and Nova are better. But I wanted to keep its character. With the meta engines it’s just interchangeable with every other Classic Muscle.
