I don’t have an issue with the DLC packs, although I am cynical about them, because there is nothing in there that is a must-have and affects the ability to complete challenges so players can just ignore them,
The tie-in promotions on the other hand were not the best.
The Dorrito, OPI and Oreo promos were not available in all regions so there was the problem of not being able to obtain the cars even if you wanted to participate in the promo.
The Doriitos promo was only cosmetics so totally worthless, the OPI promo was odd because I imagine a large part of the games demographic are teenage or early 20’s males who have little use of lipstick and the Oreo promo required you to scan oreos with your phone using a buggy website which couldn’t detect the letters.
At least with the oreo promo, there was a work around for a while due to the “no purchase necessary” laws in certain counties where you could do all of this on the website (making use of a VPN) without purchase.
The controller issue was that it sold out extremely quickly and you couldn’t obtain it.
I’m not against tie-in promotions but they need to be organised much better, be suited to the games core audience and be available for all players who want to take part.
yes, it did seem odd, perhaps it was a “women in gaming” thing, no idea, but when I asked my sister if she was interested she said it’s her go-to brand for nail varnish; my wife chose a colour, my sister got a tester set, I got a car (and Halo armour?)
the Ford GT OPI is pretty good, as is the Zonda Oreo, but the Ford Coupe FE is as noted one of the worst things in the game, it’s a really weird thing that makes no apparent sense whatsoever
I have the Oreo car because I used the VPN work around after I couldn’t scan the Oreos that I bought. The GT is good, I was given it on cloud by a game bug for a session but it was removed next time but I did keep the emote.
The coupe FE, I was never too worried about because the stock car is terrible but I thought the controller looked good but couldn’t get one.
If the OPI promo was connected to ‘women in gaming’ then that doesn’t really sit right with me. It feels like a decision that a (likely male) marketing team/manager would come up with.
Using beauty products to promote women in gaming, a campaign to break down stereotypes, feels somewhat regressive.
I think MS are getting to the point of accept any brand deal that Epic Games have embraced. It doesn’t matter if it fits with the game or its user base, just add it and take the money
Well, I don’t have a wife, sister or kids so that Lipstick one (or nail polish if that’s what it was but I remember it as being a lipstick) was of no use to me whatsoever. And I don’t eat biscuits, sweets or any other snacks.
The controller also of no interest as I use a wheel - it was more than a standard controller anyway which I already have but rarely use.
I agree on the point of “not missing anything” though. Another reason why I won’t pay for car packs for stuff I’ll most likely rarely or never use.
If they get offered in the backstage passes then of course I’ll take them but other than that have no interest in bolstering their billions.
I would’ve got it first time if I hadn’t landed on a rock and tried to aim to the left on my second attempt, which then worked. I suspect an element of luck was involved rather than skill.
The slight bump ahead of the jump annoys me, but I slowed a smidge for it. I was probably lucky with my timing.
I started the run from the intersection that follows the Lookout Circuit course because it means that I don’t have to worry about understeering where the road turns to the right ahead of the Festival outpost and because I think this curve also makes long runups a waste of time as it forces you to slow down. It was a strategy I devised when we had to do this jump in something very powerful that was devoid of adequate handling.
And it was all done in manual with clutch.
But this jump can be incredibly frustrating to do because if I had a record of the times I’ve done this as a PR stunt, I suspect most of them I would either have failed it through the car landing on rocks or having fallen a little short of the target.
yes, that’s generally what I think but after getting 44x m for the hundredth time I thought I’d see if higher speed into that bend might pay off and actually it did, just carried enough to hit the bottom of the final slope up to the jump at 152ish
I got lucky on the danger sign with my S1 drag build, had just enough handling to stay on the road and I got lucky with the landing and nailed it first try.
This tune is on Offroads so is the Monaro one despite both their respective events taking place on road courses, the FD 599 ‘tune’ is also basically just the stock car.
Have any of the 3 people that liked that whole post bothered to actually check these things out?
Somebody needs to wake up the hamster that’s running the leaderboard servers. They’ve been acting up all weekend for me and today I can’t even do rivals at all.
Ran into this today.
tried to make a thread but the rules on topic selections are a nightmare to navigate.
No idea why they make it so hard to pick a topic / tag etc. that they accept from their own dropdown lists.
If you’re talking about the daily one then it was weird for me too.
Did two jumps that landed but got failed. On the third I only hit about 1900 feet but it still triggered.
