Fellow tuners, what are the secrets behind a good rally car/tune?

Hey all, lately I’ve been looking for another challenge on this game, since I feel like I’ve gone as fast as I can, on the various circuits in-game. So I finally decided to go out of my comfort zone, and start rally/off-road racing. But, my thing is, I have no clue on how to make a good rally car/ rally tune. I can tune for, and drive perfectly fine on pavement, but properly setting up for the dirt has really thrown me off. So, here’s some questions for you all:

  1. Is rally suspension absolutely necessary? Or can I use race suspension and just raise the ride height all the way up/soften the suspension settings?

  2. Are rally tires absolutely necessary?

  3. Maybe a silly question… Should I leave TCS & STM off, or leave both of them on and why?

  4. When it comes to driving technique and cornering, what’s the best approach? Should I go at it, like I would a normal track, using precise cornering and braking practices… Or should I approach it more like all the rally compilation videos I watch, and use healthy amounts of e-brake and oversteer?

  5. Is it me, or does the Audi S1 Quattro have an enormous amount of turbo lag? I find that the lag especially is a problem off the line, and in corner exists where 1st gear is needed.

Any advice is greatly appreciated…thanks!

What’s up Cow? (if I may just call you Cow;-)

I am in no way an expert, or even good for that matter, but I really like the dirt racing on FH3 and have made quite a few tunes to work for me.

1 - To me this is a no, but as you suggested, do raise the height all the way up. But still, that depends, if it’s just dirt, it may not be necessary to raise it all the way up. Bumpy course with jumps, it needs to be up there.

2 - To me this is a loaded question: If you like the grip and precision driving, then yes, you will want the Rally Tire for the control, but if you’re used to slinging the car around, then you can get away with no compound. Of course on the higher classes, S1 and 2, it is a must in my opinion. Lower classes you don;t have the PI to make the build competitive online so you will have to go without most of the time anyway.

3 - I prefer them OFF for everything anyway, and since Rally/Offroad is a must for AWD, I would say leave them off. You have all the power, all the time that way.

4 - This is another loaded question in my opinion: I believe both have their advantages, and you really shouldn’t limit yourself to just one answer on this. Clean, keeping your momentum to me is better for time trial style, but in actual races you don’t know what is going to happen, so try to keep yourself flexible.

5 - I don’t remember the Audi all that much, haven’t driven it enough to give an opinion of this.

I will hit you up on Live if you don’t mind so we can bounce ideas off of each other.
