I respectfully disagree that there is a huge difference with FFB o F1 and FM23. I played both and they both feel great. The problem is that Forza requires you to find settings elsewhere. F1 finds the settings automatically which is how it should be of course.
Is on sale so I try on your word. So it’s not pcsrs 2 2.0?
You won’t regret it.I’ve owned it for a loooong time.It’s really good now.Version 1.5.3 is magic…
I couldn’t tell you since I didn’t own AMS2 pre-1.5, and now they’re on 1.5.3. But you have 2 hours to play it on Steam and refund it if it feels like “PC2 2.0.” But I think it’s worth every penny
In combo with iRacing, AC, and ACC, I’m pretty much offlining FM23 until the devs fix it and not feeling like I’m missing anything rn
Anyone know if white using my fanatec dd pro as primary control, can i have my elite controller turned on without having any issues? Thank you.
Reiza found and fixed a flaw in SMS’s Madness engine, and were able to implement a greatly improved tire model. I was not impressed at all with SMS’s efforts in the PCARS series, but Reiza gained a lot of my respect with what they did to the madness engine and how they fixed AMS2’s physics and handling.
This is my opinion before downloading and installing V1.5.3.2. Now that I have time, let me check that update out.
On PC you may have to give the game a moment to switch between the two. If I touch my KB or mouse while driving, the game shuts off the wheel until I stop messing with the KM or mouse and make an input on the wheel or pedals. Hopefully the controller won’t do the same, I never tried it, but seeing that controller is still the best way to paint in FM (sadly), I should have the Gulikit plugged in while playing FM.
Reiza has its history with Automobilista 1 which is well known for excellent physics. So they have the reputation to repair PCars2 physics… what they did
Automobilista 2 is in fact the real PCars3
they repaired the physics, updated ffb and changed the AI to imho the best available AI in racing games.
and there is an active modding scene with tons of nice mods.
I picked up AMS2 a couple of years ago, sometime around the 1.3 update. I wasn’t overly impressed by it, and I put it away after playing for a few hours. To me, it felt like there was something that was just not quite right with the handling, cars didn’t react quite the same as you would expect them to in other sims.
I kept up with the game and all the hard work they’ve put in with recent overhauls to the physics model, tire tread deformation, a complete revamping of the AI, and so much more…so I decided to give it another go.
My thoughts now? Present-day AMS2 is probably the overall best racing sim I have ever played (I’m including AC, ACC, rFactor2, Raceroom, and some others). Whatever voodoo magic Reiza performed, the cars feel unique and intuitive and- most importantly - FUN to drive! I’ve picked up all the DLC (a bit pricey but a total steal if you can get it on sale). The car list doesn’t overwhelm with sheer numbers, but there are some true gems that you won’t find in any other game. Same with the track selection - lots of lesser-known venues, go-kart tracks (with several different types of karts to choose from), even rallycross tracks and cars. But probably my favorite are the historical versions of different tracks, and the meticulous detail Reiza have shown in faithfully recreating them. There’s historic layouts of Spa, Silverstone, Interlagos, Montreal, Imola, even of the Nurburgring Südschleife (South loop)!
Talking about AI, AMS2 absolutely puts FM’s implementation of it to shame. I had a race the other day in AMS2 that left me absolutely breathless: it was a Mini JCW cup race at Donington National. 20 minute race, started on pole. Flubbed the start, dropped to P4 by turn 1. Battled my way back up to P2 and was thoroughly enjoying attacking cars ahead while also having to defend from cars behind (unlike FM’s AI where as soon as you pass a car they disappear from your rearview within a couple of corners, either because they have suddenly become super slow, or because they freaked out and drove off track into the nearest tire wall). In AMS2, you can leave room for the AI and be respectful of track position, and they’ll leave room for you - all while fighting hard and clean - it is such a nice change compared to the mindless, inconsistent AI in FM.
Not to even mention all the other things AMS2 has going for it - probably the best weather implementation in sim racing, multiplayer that’s actually easy to set up (no dedicated server required, unlike some other PC racers), and which lets you add AI to fill out online grids so you and your small group of friends can still have fun, full races (what a concept!)
IMO, the only thing AMS2 is currently still missing is some sort of a curated career mode, which Reiza have said they intend to implement at some point. It currently has the ability to create custom championships (with appropriate settings presets for different racing categories, making event setup a snap - a very nice touch).
Sorry to go on and on, I guess this has gone somewhat OT now). If it sounds like I’m a bit of an AMS2 f4nb0y, I guess it’s because I am. I just see what is possible and what’s being done by other (presumably much smaller) studios, and I compare it to what we’ve gotten from T10, and there are so many ways that FM could and should be better. I really do want this game to improve, and I can only hope that T10 are looking to their competitors and are listening to the community to understand what people want and how they can make things better.
Here’s to hope, anyway.
Couldn’t agree more! It’s currently go to.
