Expansion 1: Fortune Island arrives December 13th

Thanks! For me was a “stonehenge” too.

Lands Reach cross country was insane. That one will round out my top 3 races on the island

I get why Fortune Island can’t be part of the standard Team Adventure playlists, but I really hope they add a separate online hopper for it - that cliffside route would be awesome with other players.

The expansion actually has a whole bunch of good routes, and it seems like a waste to make it so most people will only ever drive them in a single-player context.

Fortune Island Adventure hopper! Please!

I for one prefer the Fortune Island map to the base game.

Sure, the same campaign problems are still there. There’s a definite lack of built-in single player content, all challenges are way too easy, and progression happens waaay too fast. I didn’t touch any of the one-off races, just by doing the three seasonal championships I unlocked more Conqueror levels than I ever intended to.

But the map itself is so much cooler than the Britain one that I found very underwhelming. The main draws in Horizon for me are atmosphere, experience and freeroam goofery, like taking stock Lambos offroading. H3 was heavy in exoticism and grand scenery, and the map was delightfully open for those careless offroad hijinks. H2 had a strong summer ambience, beautifully flowing roads and forgiving physics that made it pretty easy to take any car anywhere. H4 is strong in the seasonal effects department, but for me the map just lacks that spectacle - I get sick of those endless fields, and the roads that people seem to like this time around are in my opinion mostly awkwardly twisty and jagged. I find myself mainly driving up and down the one road by the beach.

Fortune Island is pretty small, but it seems to do everything right that I thought the main game map didn’t. The environment and nature is exciting and dramatic. The roads have a great flow to them. The almost humorously overblown variation in packing so many different areas to such a small map is, for me, as fun as the miniature Australia of FH3 - you can just take a car, point and shoot, and in seconds you’ll end up somewhere fun and different. There are beaches and smaller islands, all of these open areas and you can just go there without hitting a thousand trees.

Purely environment-wise, it’s like now I’m getting a slice of the Horizon that I wanted all along. If only this had been the blueprint for the original game…

After how disappointing these things were in H4 (literally haven’t played in over a month due to those lacking things, just gives me no motivation to play it) i won’t be buying Fortune Island. Horizon does sooo many things greatly but playing H4 just feels pointless, race after race with no point to them. Just because the racing is enjoyable, it doesn’t make it a great game. Much preferred H3, even though small, story-wise it still had a purpose. A goal to unlock & build-up the festivals with cut-scenes, a feeling of reward & progression. Was really disappointing to see them go backward from that & from the expansion to still see it going the wrong way.

The purpose of FH4 is to be champion in each discipline. You do that when you reach level 10 and win each last event. So, officially the goal is to win Colossus, Marathon, Gauntlet, Titan, and now Leviathan and Kraken.

I have the opposite feeling about FH3. When I upgraded Byron Bay to level 5, I unlocked Goliath, and there wasn’t any commendation for it. Goliath felt like any other race. IIRC, Keira didn’t even congratulate you for winning Goliath the first time. FH3’s Goliath could pass for any other event, except it’s longer.

In FH3’s expansions, however, there was an actual goal much akin to what’s in FH4. In Blizzard Mountain you had to win the Kingmaker, while Hot Wheels had its own version of the Goliath. Both these events were significant and they unlocked something (most importantly, the ability to blueprint championships). You were also congratulated for each of these wins.

All things considered, I find FH4’s system superior, as FH3’s Festival level ups served very little practical purpose, if any at all.

Yeah, in that sense the expansion very much follows the main game formula. The “unlock all map icons” campaign can be finished in a few hours, and again the whole progress thing is just a collection of XP bars.

I find the game has by now taught me to play as slowly as possible, avoiding any methodical “let’s go and 3-star everything”, and in shorter sessions, just so that I can stretch out the available content. The unintended positive effect is that I’m finally learning about upgrading and tuning myself, if only because fumbling with car-building is a good way to inject more content into the seasonal championships and forzathon challenges, and make both the events themselves and the huge car list in the game have more of a point to them.

As for seasonal content, series 4 looks like an improvement. Every week is four championships and a trial, and on top of that there’s three championships on Fortune Island - possibly both will also have PR stunts. That is SO much more than what we’ve been getting for the last two months. It’s unfortunate though that by now I’m getting burned out, having played every week through these very content-light series 2 and 3, just trying to find something to do for myself.

Achievements: Done

Private Team Adventure: Not Present

Looks like I’m done with this expansion; I may do 1 or 2 Rivals events but I’m likely going to stick to the mainland until Expansion 2 is released.

I will say however that Drift Club 2.0 is excellent. Theming it around Formula Drift was a great idea, and those roads make for some good sideways action.

Unfortunately, Drift Club 2.0 does not reward any car unlike every other story. It could have been the time to put the Shelby Raptor or the Wagoneer shown in the trailer of Fortune Island. Nice expansion tho

Love the environment, the weather, the activities… but I don’t like how easy everything is. It is far easier than the main area already. Doing 3 Stars on Driftzones casually with a B class FWD car first try takes every accomplishment out of “3 Stars”.

i wish they would have clarified that you need to do the kraken and leviathan achievements in stock untuned cars, I did leviathan three times, once the car was stock but I missed the time by a few seconds so I tweaked the gear ratios and got 7:45. no achievement, so I am guessing I have to redo it stock and just find a way knock off a few seconds.

I did both kraken and leviathan at S900 build and both unlocked just fine. So i dont think you need to do that with stock car that achviment seems just glitchy.

You dont…

I did both of those in tuned cars (the ones required for Achievements in both cases).

Riddle 2 drift
Ok so I have the 458 traction and stability control off in 3 gear up and down the freaking drift zone at least 30x. And the treasure does not unlock… What the hell am I doing wrong? THANKS

[Mod edit - thread merged - MM]

I did it in the standard 458.

I can’t remember if you have to get a certain number of stars.

Are you failing the drift zone by any chance?

Do you have notifications turned off? If so try turning them on.

You can do any of the car-specific achievements in any state of tune.

Seems to me that you need to run the default event and not a blueprinted one. Also, check whether you don’t have connection issues.

I love Fortune Island, but… It’s been out for less than a week and I’ve finished it. Everything, achievements the lot.

Blizzard Mountain took me several weeks to complete, and I still don’t think I managed to do everything. I haven’t got all of the achievements I know that much. Might be time to re-visit because There’s nothing to do in FH4 until they fix the multi-player. If this was a separate DLC instead of being included in the Ultimate Edition I’d have been extremely unhappy with it. I’m still unhappy, just not as unhappy as if I’d bought it as an add on.

All in all, FH4 is still a big disappointment…

I finished Blizzard Mountain in the same day I started to play, lol.

In fact, BM’s progression was inflated because of all the redundant tournaments. That’s where the difference was. But I was done with the Kingmaker very quickly.

You guys are gonna have to pick something. There are only so many roads, and for most people the campaign just gets in the way. There simply isn’t much more Playground can add to the game other than more time trials, more races and more speed challenges, all while trying to make it feel not as grindy as it could be.

If multiplayer is your complaint, then forward it elsewhere, because Fortune Island has nothing to do with it. The tracks are great, the AI feels more challenging and the map is stunning. Team Adventure is part of a problem that goes beyond the scope of what Fortune Island has to offer.

Good points. Playground Games and Turn 10 claim that this is the biggest and most extreme expansion in Forza history. I can’t see that at all. I completed 87% of the Fortune Island expansion in less time that it has taken me to complete all of the Seasonal Championships (Solo, Co-op, PVP x 3)

Blizzard Mountain has twice the amount of events than Fortune Island. Plus, Blizzard Mountain has multiplayer racing.

6h in and I am all done… not really sure what to think of that except I had a lot of fun with this one ! Probably more so than with BM.
2 cents from my side:

  • like Blizzard Mountain this expansion makes faster cars totally redundant and all the fun is to be had in off road, rally cars, 4x4s, hot hatches etc. I am guessing, like BM this one is more “off road” suited
  • all the old glitches meant to be fixed by the last big update prior to FI (freezing, sound freezing/skips, car pass notification - today I got the screen with notificaiton that ZR1 and camaro ZL1 are already available at autoshow, 3 days to early) are brought back
  • agreed on way easier PR stunts (danger signs and drift zones especially are now a joke)
  • very cool to have a completely new PR stunt event type, trailblazing is fun
  • nice to have more stories (drift club 2) but if we could get one chapter with the “mid-update” (british legends or something) I was expecting at least 3 new story sets
  • treasure hunting and riddles are the best !

Actually I am not done - I have one discovery area left. Any suggestions ? I tried the islands on the south-east and “stonehenge” but neither site was the one missing
**EDIT: all the areas found, now I off to buy the edinburgh castle, wish me luck with super wheelspins
