Error retrieving share code (for blueprints)

When I attempt to get a share code for some of the blueprints I have created, I get a message saying, “Error retrieving share code,” followed by advice to try again later. I first noticed this problem 4 months ago, which I would think is “later” enough. I’ve created a few dozen blueprints, and this happens for maybe half of them. I get the error for blueprints created several months ago and for those created recently. The maddening thing is I can get share codes for some blueprints, and I have no idea of why those work while others don’t. Someone in a forum post here said that you have to drive a blueprint completely for it to be shareable, but that does not appear to help. I searched, and this does not seem to be listed as a known problem. I did notice that other people seem to be having the problem, but I haven’t seen any solutions (other than the one about driving the blueprinted race completely which didn’t work). If it’s a bug, that’s fine, I’ll wait until it’s fixed, but I’d like to know if it’s something I’m doing wrong. Does anyone have any ideas?

Right, I know what’s going on here.

I had the exact same issue the other day when trying to create share codes for blueprints.

What you need to do is run the blueprint yourself after initial creation.

I was scratching my head for ages on Thursday until I came across a random comment on Reddit and that was the answer.

So, create your blueprint, play through it from “Custom Events” > “My Events” and once completed, you’ll be able to view/share your share code.

Let us know if it worked.

These blueprints are all months old, and I have driven them to the finish line many times. But just to be complete, I went to a race site that had 2 blueprints for the same custom route, one in winter and the other in summer. I was able to get the share code for the winter blueprint but not the summer. So I drove the summer blueprint race and finished it. I then tried to get the share code for the summer race and got the error message. I left the race site, then went back into it, went to My Events and tried to get the share code for the summer blueprint. Again, I got the error code. So driving a race to completion has no effect.

Here are a couple of other bits of weirdness related to share codes:

  1. A few months ago I had written down the share codes and race sites of some of my blueprints (note that at that time I was able to retrieve the share codes). When I go back to those race sites now, I’m not able to retrieve the share codes (I get the error message). However, if I search for the share code at the race site, I can locate the blueprint.

  2. Today I went to a specific race site where I have 5 blueprints. I tried to retrieve the share codes for each blueprint, but could retrieve only 3 (the other 2 resulted in the error message). I left the race site, then went to the creative hub, where I searched for my gamer tag and set the start point to the race site I had just been to. I left all other search criteria as “any,” so I expected the search to find all 5 of my blueprints at that race site. It found only 2 (which is another strange thing, but I’ll ignore that for now). When I was at the race site, I had been able to get the share code for one of the blueprints in the search results, but I had received the error message for the other blueprint. Here’s the weird part: When I tried to get the share code for the blueprints in the search results from the creative hub, I successfully got both of them, even though one of them had resulted in the error message when I was at the race site. So I went back into the race site, tried to get the share code for that blueprint again, and got the error message. In other words, I could get the share code from the creative hub, but not from the race site.

I should point out that restarting my xbox console does not change any of this behaviour.

I think I now know what’s happening here. If a blueprint is “old” (probably created before some specific release of FH4), the error message is always displayed when an attempt is made to get the share code. I created many blueprints quite a while ago, and I think those are the ones I’ve been having trouble with. There is a simple solution: Just create a new, identical blueprint on top of the old one, race the blueprint to completion, then successfully retrieve the share code. Replacing existing blueprints is easy if there are 5 blueprints at the race site. So far, this approach has worked for all the blueprints I’ve tried it with.

I have to say that the error message I got when attempting to retrieve the share code is part of the problem here. It advises that I “try again later,” which suggests the problem cause is temporary (unless, of course, the problem is caused by a bug, and by “later” they mean, “when the bug is fixed”). If the message said something like, “You can’t get share codes for old blueprints,” I would have spent a lot less time on this. Also, if you have to completely race a blueprint before you can get its share code, why doesn’t the message mention that?
